  1. So if any of you have seen my last thread about how I went to Jool but I don't have enough fuel to return to Kerbin so I'm doomed to orbit the Sun forever. I decided it might be possible, using the rest of my fuel and EVA fuel to get into Kerbin's orbit. I have to do about a 3000 m/s burn, and I have most of my EVA fuel (I think) and I have 108 fuel left in my ship. Is the return possible?
  2. So you want me to go around the sun AGAIN? Whatever, I'm terminating the mission.
  3. So, I came up with a way that could provide endless fun even when you finish career mode. Achievements earn you "medals". There are 4 types of medals that you can earn. Basic Medals (Bronze medal) Experience Medal (Silver medal) Expert Medal (Gold medal) Legendary Medal (Diamond medal) Stats don't earn you anything. It's merely just to look back at what you have accomplished. These are the stats ideas I came up with: Successful missions to Eve: Successful missions to Duna: Successful missions to Moho: Successful missions to Dres: Successful missions to Eeloo: Successful missions to Eve and back: Successful missions to Duna and back: Successful missions to Moho and back: Successful missions to Dres and back: Successful missions to Eve and back: Total successful missions: Total failed missions: Successful missions to Mun and back: Successful missions to Minmus and back: Successful missions to Mun: Successful missions to Minmus: Flags planted: Total science: Successful missions from interplanetary space and back: Normal achievements can be earned once and you get a medal for it. Milestone achievements are earned and replaced. For example, pretend there was a milestone achievement "Get 500 meters off the ground". When you get the achievement, it would be replaced with the same achievement, but a bigger number, like "Get 847 meters off the ground". Bronze achievement ideas: I was here!-Plant a flag 0 gravity-Get out of the atmosphere Brave astronaut-Go on an interplanetary mission. Astronaut sacrifice-Send 5 kerbals into space on a single mission Exceptional rocket scientist-Unlock 10 parts of the tech tree Silver achievement ideas: Spy-Send a probe into space Alien-Get an encounter with another planet Rocket scientist-Unlock half of the tech tree Cheap-Get into space using 8 or less parts Easter egg explorer-Walk up to 3 different easter eggs I'm coming home!-Send a ship into orbit, then make it land at the KSC, runway, or Launchpad. Visiting the penguins-Get into orbit and then land in the poles Mun Monster-Get into orbit around the Mun Minmus express-Get into orbit around Minmus Gold achievement ideas: Mun Landing: Land a ship on the Mun Minmus Landing: Land a ship on Minmus Foreign orbiter: Get into orbit around another planet Nerdy rocket scientist: Unlock the entire tech tree Meltdown: Get closer to Kerbol than Moho Escapee: Leave the Solar system Feeling gassy: Crash into Jool Diamond achievement ideas: Just like Kerbin!: Land on Laythe We come in peace: Land on any moon excluding Minmus, Mun, or Laythe. Dres Explorer: Land on Dres Icy rock: Land on Eeloo Martian: Land on Duna The purple planet: Land on Eve Massive furnace: Land on Moho Milestone achievements: Land on Eve 2 times (Number increases by 3 each time) Land on Duna 2 times (Number increase by 3) Land on Moho 2 times (Increase by 2) Land on Dres 2 times (Increase by 2) Land on Eeloo 2 times (Increase by 1) Get closer to the Sun than Moho 4 times (Increase by 4) Get to Mun 3 times (Increase by 2) Get to Minmus 2 times (Increase by 2) Get to Laythe 2 times (Increase by 3) Get to another another moon besides Laythe, Mun or Minmus 3 times (Increase by 3) Get 10 science (Increase by 50) Get 10 medals (Increase by 5) There is a new building for the medals, which is called the museum, where you can view your medals.
  4. Uhh, this isn't really related to the question, but how does this thread not have a prefix?
  5. Thanks, I set Kerbin as my target and I found an encounter after about 5 minutes. Although I am a bit worried I won't have enough fuel to crash down at Kerbin.
  6. Nah, I was doing a burn and the search menu popped up as I was doing a burn then I began spinning out of control and started burning in the wrong direction
  7. Thanks for the advice, although I might restart it because Windows 8 partially ruined it for me. I will try what you said though
  8. So, using a rocket I have built myself, I managed to get a Jool encounter, my first career mode one, without cheating. I actually got the encounter, which went smoothly except for the fact that windows 8 started acting up which pretty much drained a good amount of fuel. Luckily, I got to Jool, and I think I will be able to get back. I have just under half a tank left of my main capsule and the last set of boosters. Now the hard part is getting back, getting into orbit and landing. I'm not entirely sure that is possible with the fuel I have, but I am gonna try. So, the problem is, how can I get a Kerbin encounter without using too much fuel? All I am getting is Jool encounters, and it's pretty frustrating but somewhat amusing. My orbit entends slightly beyond Jool and the Periapsis is slightly under Kerbin. How am I supposed to get back without crashing into Jool again? Or should I just give up and add transmitters next time? EDIT: I got within Kerbin. Now I just need to get into orbit. But how? I have 108 fuel left and the maneuver to get into orbit is 2945.5 m/s. If I can get into orbit, I want to send out a rescue ship to go after the Joolian Ship and use my rescue ship to get the kerbal to evacuate.
  9. Actually I realized that I never really took down the time warp probe... Looks like I'm unable to save Jeb from the doom of the "Terminate mission" button in mission control
  10. (This really happened, and I felt like making a story about it... ) So I was just derping around in my career save when I was like "Now how am I supposed to get science?" I have been to just about every biome except badlands, which badlands are somewhat hard to get to, and aren't too rewarding. My mission to Eve failed as I tried to do it without finding an encounter, and my ships were barely getting me out of orbit. I watched some of Scott Manley's tutorials, which I tried but were no help, so I decided it was time to go to the Mun, and Minmus. I used Jebediah, since Bob was stuck in orbit trying to get to Eve, and Bill was a victim for my Time warp probe. The time warp probe's purpose was so I could use any of the timewarp speeds no matter how close my ships were to Kerbin. I *was* going to take it down, but then I realized that I didn't equip a Parachute so I would have less mass, even though parachutes are practically weightless... So, the Mun trip was easy. Getting to the Mun was so easy, it was hard getting to Minmus because I kept getting Mun encounters. Anyway, I used one of Scott Manley's tutorial ships, but I got to the Mun in my own way. I used Scott Manley's ship, and blasted off, the trip was pretty normal, but I didn't get into the Mun's orbit like I was hoping. Just a passby. I got around 100 science, although not what I was hoping. I blasted back to Kerbin then. Getting to Minmus, on the other hand, was pretty hard. Not because it was farther out, but because I kept making a lot of stupid mistakes. It took four tries. On the first ship, I realized I was using the same ship I used for the timewarp probe. In other words, it didn't have a parachute, so I was like "You know what? Screw it" and I reverted the mission. The second time, I was being really fuel inefficient and I just reverted to save time. The third time, I used timewarp x100000 and I crashed into Kerbin. Then I ragequit for an hour then went to playing Minecraft until I was ready to build some more failures. The forth time went surprisingly smoothly. I got really close to see one of Minmus' biomes, unlike with the moon. I also just got to look at Minmus up close, which was pretty cool... I had way more fuel than I needed, So I cut my orbit back to Kerbin, put all my data in the capsule, did an EVA, and I was ready to head home, being extremely careful with timewarp to prevent what happened last time. I then decoupled the capsule and was ready to head home. I would not go much faster than x1000 timewarp for over 3 seconds, and I ended up using the parachute at 5000 meters instead of 500 to prevent dying because I was so scared after my last attempts... Anyway, I landed in some highlands, right behind the mountains that you see clearly from the KSC, which was surprising. After that mission, I was back to having nothing to do. I got some more rocketry tech which means using the Skipper engine and 2 medium size fuel tanks, I can get to orbit easily with no problems. I decided to explore one of the monoliths near KSC and did some testing with the new engine and fuel tank. Although I forgot a decoupler on one of them and... R.I.P. Bill. Died from coming down too fast on a massive rocket that I was testing asparagus staging on, because with the 200 science I got from Minmus, I bought the better rocketry, but I also got that fueling tech where you get fuel ducts. Anyway, my asparagus staging test had a nasty result, and at the same time I had to kill Bob in my timewarp probe since there was no way to get him back anyway. And now my next mission is to try to get an encounter with another planet, and get Aerospace tech later, but I don't think I'll need it... I also might try to land on Minmus, because my Mun success went to new landing gear. The end
  11. The station looks cool, but it's nearly impossible to put into orbit.
  12. Ok, this is really weird, but like always, it might help to: Try a different copy of KSP, if you have one. Restart the game uninstall a mod
  13. Thanks I think I am slightly closer to understanding it... Ah whatever, I will probably learn it in high school Nice quote
  14. This idea would go along with money when SQUAD adds that. But the idea is pretty self explanatory. In career mode, if you have the cash, I think it would be cool if you could buy certain stock spaceships and space planes. Researching the tech tree unlocks new ships for you to buy. Tell me if you think this is or isn't a good idea!
  15. I always here people talking about it around here, and now I feel like an idiot for asking what it is, but what is DeltaV?
  16. I for one, like the idea of asteroids. But they might end up being computer melting since there are so much asteroids. Comity. Nailed it.
  17. PLEASE add an "undo" feature. I am really frustrated right now because I was building a ship that should have took 5 minutes but it took more like 30 minutes because I kept accidentally moving my other fuel tanks and stuff, messing up all the struts. Eventually, I finished the ship but later realized that the other fuel tanks weren't aligned with my radial decoupler. Then I ended up watching my kerbals fall to the ground without a parachute while the rest of the ship was exploding and bombing the KSC. Anyway. please add this feature, it would help a lot :I
  18. Not really. Achievements could be something you can work towards after completing the tech tree and all of that. You aren't forced to do achievements
  19. Not sure if this one has been discovered yet, but I don't remember seeing it on the list. This Kraken basically attacks you when you try to revert a flight. He doesn't like his victims trying to escape from him. Edit: This kraken, like any others, will make your game crash.
  20. According to their stats, rapier engines didn't look that good to me. Can anyone explain why everyone seems to be obsessed with them?
  21. Yay future achievements At least we know they might be coming in the future, but what achievements should there be? (I'm obviously trying to keep this discussion from dying... :|) And what stats should there be? Stats should be somewhere either in the pause menu or also in the R&D facility. Stat ideas: Hours played: Total science earned: Total successful lands on other planets or moons: Space ships launched etc. Achievement ideas: First orbit 10 successful orbits 100 successful orbits First successful landing 10 successful lands 100 successful lands Send 10 kerbals into orbit Send 10 kerbals into orbit in a single flight. Please keep the discussion going.
