  1. Hmmm. In light of your point I guess I'll just leave it as it is with constant speeds. It still looks the part anyway xD
  2. ^ All of this is true, but this being intended basically just for aesthetics, I'm fine with (I'd actually prefer) simplifying it to KSP's level of precision or lower. I've already assumed two-body orbits, and even that the star mass is negligible, making it sort of a one-body problem. So what I'm looking for is an approximation to orbit position over time in a simplified stable two-body elliptical orbit, which to me seems like it shouldn't be anything grossly complicated. Also I already read the Wikipedia page on Kepler's laws and if I recall properly that's the one that threw an infinite series at me xD According to this page, the function is somewhere between a sine curve and a cycloid, but I can't quite pin down an equation for it. I've also tried these, and while fairly close they still don't seem to match.
  3. Today I made something I thought was pretty cool and that I should share with you guys: Play with it here! https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13276416/Unity/WarpTest/WarpTest.html It's a little interactive "simulator" thing about relativistic space flight. I've made the galaxy much smaller than real life (only two light-minutes across) for obvious reasons, and it isn't quite scientifically accurate in all ways, but it's based on the real science behind relativistic optical effects and thus with any luck gives the right general impression. Here's hoping some of you guys have some fun with it! And please be sure to let me know what you think. Old post:
  4. I use Notepad o_O In other news, OP, wise move putting the joke reaction in the OP. No offense to you, but plenty of people do exist who would be dumb enough to make this as a serious thread xD
  5. I feel your pain dude. My Jool-5 attempts have gotten increasingly bigger and more complicated due to my impatience over the transfer window xD I also hope that someday KSP will be "designed for" or at least able to better handle stuff like this.
  6. Anyone else notice the module on the left is screaming in pain from having a solar panel stabbed into its head? °□°
  7. Please don't take this wrong, but I am granting this the title of Worst Mod Ever. No offense of course
  8. I'm posting in this thread before it gets locked! ^^
  9. I must be doing it wrong then. Here's my top 5 behaviors: 1. Design efficiently 2. Run test launches 3. Drive carefully 4. Quicksave often 5. Raise eyebrows at people who claim SSTOs are impossible
  10. I won't spam them, but hey, Kerbals aren't humans and they have different priorities. They make their fuel tanks inefficient by over-reinforcing them and until very recently their engines had all been designed to maintain constant thrust at all pressures regardless of potential efficiency - so why wouldn't they also spend a bunch of time and money developing reaction wheels far more powerful than ours?
  11. o_o We have all learned something very useful today.
  12. Y'know what? This actually sounds like an awesome idea! Perhaps Twitch Thrusdays could be merged into Video Wednesdays, helping during those weeks when there aren't any amazing videos to post or streams to feature.
  13. 9/10. Old classic and about time a KSP ship reappeared. Can't believe the Yuuzhan Vong Worldship was too obscure... xP How about V-Ger then? Surely someone recognizes this...
  14. This is very similar to the "I Spy with my Kerbal Eye" thread.
  15. Lemme get this straight: You went to Eve, ascended from Eve, and then went to Tylo and landed on Tylo? I feel inadequate.
  16. Based on the part's default orientation I believe they're meant to go hinge-forward.
  17. I used to place way too much faith in specific impulse. I sort of do now, but I've come to understand why using a 48-77 or an ant may be better for tiny probes than a massive LV-N. I used to think fairings didn't make much difference in the 1.0 aerodynamics, or at least not enough to justify their weight. They do now o_O I used to... okay, I still do this. I put way too many copies of Science experiments on my landers. For those unaware, duplicate Science does not decrease the total available and thus does help harvest it faster, even if duplicate experiments get less points individually. Still, four barometers and an extra reading in the command pod is overkill when the Science drops to zero after two readings xD Not to mention this was on a Mun lander before the barometers worked there.
