He said it could bairly make orbit, THEN he added a sea level engine that fixes some of the TWR problems.

[1.12.x] Alcubierre Warp Drive (Stand-alone)

Is it too much to ask a stocklike kerbal device to have some kind of saftey lockout... Oh who am I kidding.- 1,692 replies

[1.12.x] Alcubierre Warp Drive (Stand-alone)
Rakaydos replied to RoverDude's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I can generate exotic matter while stopped, (given enough timewarp), and I can warp around if I'm not generating enough electric charge (there is a sound change when I drop to "as fast as I can power it" speed)... it seems strange that doing both at once would kill me. Flaming out of Xenon was really out there, though. That one limits my maximum range.- 1,692 replies

[1.12.x] Alcubierre Warp Drive (Stand-alone)
Rakaydos replied to RoverDude's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
It also blows up if I run out of electric charge without the fuel cells running. Even though the cells dont cover the ful cost of the engine, they keep me from actually hitting 0 resource. This happens even in the inner system of a clean install. Out past 1000 GM... Starting exotic matter production and throttling up (shift) dismantles the ship. Mort testing must wait because I accidently saved over when I wanted to quickload.- 1,692 replies

[1.12.x] Alcubierre Warp Drive (Stand-alone)
Rakaydos replied to RoverDude's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Just tested a "run out of EM in flight" at over 2300 GM and got clean breaks at the part bondaries of everything in front of the warp drive. Reloaded that quicksave and tried the "create exotic mattre" while drive was running, and the drive vanished, along with breaking everything in front, with clean separation between a tank and the ring of fuelcells that used to be attached to that tank, like the tank slid out from under them leaving them in place. Reloaded, created exotic matter from a stop, no problems filling the tank. Was able to reach SoI. None of these results are as dramatic as what I experienced earlier. Edit: Starting warp drive without shutting down exotic matter creation while at extremely high GM (over the All) caused an existance failure that killed kerbals but F3 doesnt show any part destruction.- 1,692 replies

[1.12.x] Alcubierre Warp Drive (Stand-alone)
Rakaydos replied to RoverDude's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I have KSS installed, and I'm trying to warp to the next star over. Unfortunately the kraken attacks near the outer edge of the Kerbol SoI. Is this a known bug, and if so, are there any workarounds? Also the kraken attacks if I try producing exotic particles while in warp.- 1,692 replies

ESA fires an air-breathing electric thruster for low orbits
Rakaydos replied to Gaarst's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Is the atmospere at 200 km the same proportions as lower, or is there gravity-separation? If it's the same, you're collecting 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen. The oxygen is useful, but the nitrogen tkes a lot of processing to become usful nitrogen compounds, and can probably be tossed. The question is whether your PFA can split different types of gasses in orbit, or whether it justcompresses them and lets another vessel handle separation. -

Same error. "Kopernicus was not able to load the custom planetary system due to an exception in the loading process." Do I still have it installed wrong, or is my computer just too weak to run it? (Will edit with log and kopernicus folder)- 4,170 replies

[1.5.1] Kerbal Star Systems [v0.8.2] August 18, 2018
Rakaydos replied to StarCrusher96's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I am attempting to install this mod, on a 1.3.1 Kerbal Space Program install, but I am having trouble. While this mod specifically calls out needing Kopernicus 1.3 1-3, I was only able to find the newest release (1.3 1-7) and an obsolete version (1.2 something) I tried installing 1-7 anyway, in case it was backward compatable, and upon loading the main menu I recieved an error message that Kopernicus couldnt find any planet packs, though they are installed under KSS/Kopernicus files as instructed.- 4,170 replies

Forever is a long time, but since SpaceX wants to retire the Falcon 9 in an unreaonably short time (by conventional standards) the odds seem rather good that it wont happen. Now, BFR landing failures after entry...
-
The reason BFR competes with long range transport but not short range is because air breathers need air, and air resistance is a female dog. Try making a KSP aircraft to reach the other launch center (not the island, the other crawlerway) in a reasonable amout of time. Then do it with a rocket.

As I understand it, it's avoiding toxic propellant impingement.

"scot manley good" Did you know RL rendevus with the ISS arnt allowed to use RCS near the station? They line up the docking port (or at least the robot arm) entire orbits before rendevus, and just coast in.

You mean like the Delta Clipper managed last century?
-
I dont know. it's still a big air displacement, however you rig it.
-
As I understand it, there was some trouble with the fairing displacing so much air that the chute collapsed in the middle.

Having enough saftey rating on the Raptor to run the VacRaptor at sea level in an emergency, with minimal flow separation inside the mars-rated nozzles.

Isnt the primary abiotic oxidiser something formed in the upper ice due to jupiter's van allen belt? They may not have sunlight, but they may have the chemical equivilant. How fast does europa rotate relative to jupiter?
