  1. Honestly I will believe that when I see it. I know dragon has his qualms with these forums but little to no work has been done by dragon in months. I am fully aware he is not obligated to. Don't misconstrue my tone with arrogance or entitlement. It's just this project has taken so long to revive because of dragon. Because of delays, because of dragons relationship with the moderators and the ksp community. I guess what I am saying is that you shouldn't abandon your projects because they are too beautiful hiwever there are better modders and coders in the community and if you are waiting for dragon it's probably not gonna happen. Just FYI
  2. That's actually a good idea. It would save fps and memory!
  3. New date for movies release had been bumped to October 2nd. Yay two months less waiting!
  4. There is a simple truth with gravity and interstellar. Both were about graphics first and story second. Gravity for all intents and purposes is a terrible story. It was all about how to make those movies. This story was a novel and has gone from great story to how to make it. AND it looks beautiful. So I am very optimistic, also they must be doing something right because it's now been bumped up to an October 2nd release. It's being released two months early! So now no competition with Star Wars, bond, and mockingjay.
  5. I'm not talking about the construction I'm talking about the cost of materials and the innovations that need to be made and then implementing those innovations. Plus it's a program the likes of Apollo. The Hermes although reusable would be most likely be exceedingly more expensive than the ISS. Then there are the habs and rovers and return vehicles that are sent ahead of the crew. I don't think that if it would be done today it would cost hundreds of billions of dollars most likely approaching trillions of dollars. Sadly funding like that is the most unrealistic part of the whole endeavor.
  6. Hahahahaha heat shields!!*
  7. Its an ascent stage and a decent stage. Remember Watney harvests the spent hydrazine from that decent stage. This is an interview with Andy Weir and Adam Savage. All they do throughout the interview is gush about the book. But Weir talks and admit happily about all the stuff that he got wrong. I think the trailer is getting alot from the book right. Its hollywood everything has to look cool or else people might not be interested int it. I love the suits I hate the helmets. Remember these have to be suits that he has to take on and off alone. Real spacesuits are impossible to take on and off alone. So the suits in the book take a giant leap forward in spacesuit technology. Again from the trailer you can clearly hear the abrupt cutouts and sound editing to make it all sound more compelling in a three minute trailer. There is no way they throw away the plot of the crew not knowing. Its too good a plot. So that bunch of pictures is probably Watneys FIRST transmission to NASA. Listen to it again its an abrupt cutout. Its "Houston be advised" in one tone and then "we are receiving a video message" in another tone. From the sound of it, its two differnt people actually. Jessica Chastain first and then Kate Mara. Then it flashes to the pictures. How do you know thats not some NASA engineer piecing the pictures together. To be critical of that part of the trailer really annoys me because it is clearly a nonlinear chain of event edited together to create a cool moment in the trailer. The hermes is gorgeous. Also to be annoyed at a transmission is ridiculous! It is nit picky and pedantic beyond anything that is acceptable. I am disappointed it doesn't look more realistic but lets pretend for the movies sake that NASA all of a sudden has an unlimited budget. And again its hollywood deal with things looking pretty!
  8. They probably retract. The ones on the ISS retract. So do the radiators. Plus that front bit could be an expanding or inflatable heart sheild.
  9. Adam Savage interviewing Andy Weir on The Talking Room http://youtu.be/5SemyzKgaUU
  10. I made a replica of the Hermes from The Martian using a few of your parts. It came out pretty good for a first try. Needs some more parts and some need to be adjusted, but I am happy with it.
  11. Great video however the one thing I think you really got wrong was the pathfinder footage. Besides thats how pictures from pathfinder would look. That video and sound edit from the trailer are clearly cliped. They want to create suspense in the trailer without giving away a major plot point which is that they dont know he is alive until they are almost back to earth. Its probably the first transmission combined with the transmission or just a transmission from later or earlier in the film to the hermes. Yes yes i know you were being pedantic. So I guess you can say I am being pedantic about your pedantic video lol. Great summary though. - - - Updated - - - Ok so I had to try and build the Hermes its a first try and it definitely needs some love but this is a replica cobbled to together with a few mods.
  12. I saw that! Andy Weir posted it on his facebook page. Also Tested is going to release and interview between Adam Savage and Andy Weir sometime this week. It gonna be on there web series "The Talking Room" Adam Savage is actually an amazing interviewer and he just so happens to be an enormous fan of the book. So stay tuned once its up I will post it on here.
  13. Not if they use Kerbal Joint Reinforcement
  14. Have you seen his youtube channel lately? It looks like he is working on all of them. https://www.youtube.com/user/alexustas22/videos I am not trying to stop progess. By all means new IVA's are always working. I m just saying it looks like Alexustas is working on new IVAs. Maybe he is just practicing for Konquest. Who knows?
  15. This is amazing! Since the ISS is most likely getting a new update all of the resupply vehicles..I WANT THEM!!
  16. Requirement? No. The ability to do that? absolutely!! High Res textures? This shuttle should be all about payloads. The ISS probes, telescopes, etc. so the memory footprint should be low enough should we can enjoy other mods in conjunction with it. I say this for the people who don't have super computers lol.
  17. I think it's time you started work on the Hermes from The Martian. We have a pretty good idea what it's gonna look like now. Get to it?
  18. I agree I don't think it's that imperative of a feature. However I think the radiators would be an incredible addition. Along with the ET doors. I'm also glad that all these shuttles are coming out of the woodwork when people have be pining for a proper space shuttle for years! Anyway it doesn't matter I'm just glad to so see actual progress and all of the incredible and beautiful work that is being done.
  19. Most likely they do not. They will be overpowered, have node issues, the fairings wont work, overpriced, not integrated into tech tree properly anymore, and those are the things I know will be broken without installing. Hopefully Yogui will get some free time soon. He mentioned two posts earlier that he just needed time so maybe wait until then.
  20. Its really cheap on Amazon. I would buy if not only for the fact that from now on every copy is going to have Matt Damon's face on it. So I would pick it up just so you can have a copy from before the movie release. Plus its a book you should have! - - - Updated - - - Also how many times have all you guys watched the trailer? The more I watch it I can clearly hear that they edited the sound and video to make it seem like the hermes crew received Watneys message. Its too good of a plot point to not include in the film. What I would like to discuss is, what do we think they will cut from the film? What from the book do we think is going to be cut because of time constraints. From the trailer we see an Atlas Rocket on the launch pad, and a person looking quite upset after that shot and a launchpad in the forgroround, so the first supply mission will be in the film. There is a clip of to chinese people looking completive, so the hermes supply rendezvous is in it. His trip to the pathfinder seems to be in it obviously because that is his first means of communication. Honestly most of it seems to be there. Even the hab exploding looks like it is going to be in there. So honestly I think they might his trip to retrieve the RTG? Yes it is an important plot point and science wise he definitely needs it. What do you guys think? What will they cut? One last thing my only complaint is that the hermes is way too luxurious. I was picturing more of a constellation program design but hey how could I really complain about it looking too nice. The gravity ring with the bay windows are not very realistic but I suppose makes for a beautiful shot and scenes so.....whatever!! ITS BEAUTIFUL OK!!! I love it!! Also what are the chances they find a way to kill Sean Bean?
  21. We need to self moderate here. There will be no more discussion about the file size, file organization, or anything of that matter. Cheech you have made it abundantly clear that you are unhappy about the state of how the current CSS file structure. There are unnecessary parts but it has been stated several times over that this is not the final iteration of the pack. Mike Cheeche's points are valid its difficult to test parts when we aren't sure which one to test. It might seem simple cull which parts we want and don't want but it can get confusing. Cheech it is not constructive when the point is made over and over again. Especially when your point had been acknowledged. So please lets not derail this thread with trivial quibbles over file structure. There is so much good work going on here.
  22. Anyone else think that it would be funny that if watney finds out the crew doesn't know he's alive he sends the message to Hermes? That would be funny. NASA telling him what to do and he rebels by doing that. I could accept that plot change.
