  1. No they aren't NERVA engines. NASA developed and very nearly produced nuclear engines to convert the Saturn V into a ship that went to Mars. If you stick the incompleted M-1 engines to the bottom of the Saturn make everything a little bigger and attach the NERVA engine to the bottom of the service module you basically get the NOVA rocket which was supposed to get us to Mars in 1978 but they cut the funding way before that could happen. Think of the F-1 engines as a SECOND STAGE! It would have been epic!
  2. In terms of realistic apocalyptic, asteroid, science fiction, movies Deep Impact is one of the most realistic. Realistic being relative to all of the other movies out there, the most obvious being Armageddon. Now in my humble opinion the Messiah is one of the nicest ships in all of science fiction mainly because it utilizes mostly real parts that exist today cobbled together TO SAVE THE WORLD! Now looking at the pictures I have determined a few mods make it possible to recreate. The Component Space Shuttle, Tiberdyne Shuttles, FASA parts, Bobcats American and Soviet Packs. Now here is the issue. How do I put it all together. Now I can spend a few hours in the VAB testing launching and maybe put it all together cheat and get the thing launched into orbit cheating. But I don't want to do that. I want it to be as realistic as possible and I want it to be functional. I also want to strap the ARM to the top or front and use it to redirect asteroids. That last part is optional but I want to realistically assemble this thing in orbit like they did in the movie. I suppose all the little bits are relatively simple but how do I launch what looks like Space Shuttle SRBs and Energia Boosters into orbit without using the fuel in them. Now I can use the SRBs from KSO because they are liquid but still how do you launch an SRB? So I am just looking for ideas and advice, pictures would be greatly appreciated and if someone has a mod or is making a mod for this I am very interested. Many Thanks, Sal
  3. KSP has liquid engines, command pods, solar panels too . I was thinking more the 60's/70's style NERVA engine maybe more powerful than the stock KSP engine but less efficient? Still capable of getting to DUNA and back.
  4. Request I am gonna go outside the box and request the NERVA engine. I think being able to launch Duna missions as they were planned for Mars in the 60's and 70's before it was cancelled is a really fun idea. I would second Skylab but I have to agree with Dragon I don't think requesting Skylab isn't fair considering it could be an entire build separate from FASA. Plus I know Denny is gonna be working on it in the future so in that respect I guess I would request that Denny's Skylab be compatible with FASA as I prefer your Saturn V over Dennys.
  5. As I said I wasn't referring to you I was referring to other people on this thread. Absolutely I am a fanboy, I am a huge fan of all the modders on here that make the game better, I hate people who don't have common sense or decency to treat people with respect. If you want something you ask politely, if you have constructive criticism you approach the topic carefull, with tact and diplomacy and with respect. I have seen too many mods die, fail, or go incomplete due in large part to the people on the threads not having any sense of common decency. Look at all of bobcats threads and mods. He hasn't updated the American Pack, Soviet Pack, and HOME in months! Why? Because people were constantly on him about updates, opinions, and changes that they demanded/expected him to make. So what happened? He lost interest, he stopped caring, and lost the desire to maintain the mods because of ingrates pestering him. Just go a few pages back Frizz is feeling the same way, and yes I might be overzealous and fanboyish but I guess I am also kinda being selfish because I don't want this mod to die with the next updates because Frizz has no motivation to update it. Finally I wasn't deciding for Frizz, go back a few pages he has made it evidently clear that he is done with FASA after the Saturn V is complete.
  6. I first have to say that I love this mod and what you are trying to do. Adding to the stock idea of what Kerbal parts are supposed to be is brilliant and you are excellent at doing it. That being said I have some thoughts. First off I feel all of your problems are with smokesscreen and hot rockets. I say this because the parts are beautiful as well as the engines. But all of the glitches I have been having are due to the effects. So as a rating for the parts themselves 10/10, their functionality and usefulness 10/10, however the effects are no bueno. So the first one is the mainsail the effects make it look like the engine flame reaches all the way back down to the launchpad. Also the "Shenron" pod is included, I don't know if you wanted that in there yet just fyi. If you made the smoke orange on purpose then i retract what I said it looks really cool, but i don't think thats what you were going for. By far the biggest problem is the effects for the upperstage engine. It looks like an old 8bit video game. Last comment, is that engine also overpowered? Because it lifts the CM and SM really well by itself. If this is all something stupid I did I retract everything I said except about how awesome it looks and what you are trying to do.
  7. There is a difference between requests/suggestions and demands. I'm not saying you but there are people on here demanding and expect frizz to do things simply because they say so. Plus he already said he was done after the Saturn V so to keep asking is just futile, it borderline disrespectful if you ask me. Not addressing you im talking a off other people on this thread.
  8. Does it matter if it's in demand or not? He doesn't want to do it.
  9. Actually the component space shuttle is under development again here http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/71360-Component-Space-Shuttle-dev-thread-IMG-heavy%21 it's still under development but Dragon01 has it working again and he is all so working on making it better.
  10. Its all the FASA Saturn V, except for the upperstage which is the Squad j2 X http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/24867-%28-23-5%29-FASA-3-86-Saturn-V-Beta-05-09-2014 His Saturn V is in the final stages of Beta. I highly recommended it. Its stable, the parts are practical as well as accurate. FASA is a standard in my gamedata folder.
  11. If you do it, let it go straight up don't try and do a gravity turn too early.
  12. Yea thats a KSO on top of a Saturn V. Lets just say there are a few Kerbals orbiting the sun right now and I have to mount a rescue mission to get them home.
  13. I like that you can't just shut them down and it takes a few seconds to get to full power. It's pretty realistic.
  14. Whoa!! Just when I thought I couldn't get more excited about FASA!
  15. Did I read a few pages back that you were doing the launch clamps for the Saturn V? Those are going to be epic!! Especially when this mod gets released http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/35147-RBI-Caterpillar-Tracks-Revival
  16. Did you change something with the Redstone? I nearly got into orbit with it.
  17. I know you said you are a stock player but Bobcats American Pack has a wonderful Aries 1. Orion Capsule, and sm complete with IVA. Give it a shot. Even if you delete everything else and keep the SRB its very well balanced and made.
  18. Isn't that the point of a dev thread? I don't think suggestions are a bad thing as long as they are done with tact, diplomacy, and the mindset that its just a suggestion and that Frizz doesn't have to do it simply because you say it with conviction.
  19. Like everything else in life some people just don't get it. Some people just don't have any concept of tact or diplomacy when asking for things. However you can't let the opinions of one spoil your opinions of the rest of us who are unimaginably appreciative of what you and the rest of the amazing modders on these forums. I for one am unbelievably grateful for the work you guys do, because I have zero knowledge about making mods. I have been doing soup kitchen work, outreach, swim lessons, and other various forms of charity since I was in my early teens. I can't say that every time someone complains about the FREE food it isn't shocking and disheartening but the people who are truly thankful far out number and outweigh the people who are extremely grateful. So I hate to callously segway back into modding but your analogy is perfect. There are tons of people on these forums who think they can do it better, expect things like they are paying you, and think they know best but those people are just louder and stand out more than the people who are truly grateful. Even the "worst" mods on here amaze me because I don't even know where to start in terms of making a crappy mod. Don't get disappointed and unmotivated just remember for every jerk that is out there are ten who truly appreciate what you do, that doesn't just apply to modding. Yes I selfishly want you to keep doing what you are doing but only because it is so awesome.
  20. Get rid of the reflection plugin. It really solves crashing and lag problems.
