  1. I have probe core in almost all of my crafts.
  2. The problem with this challenge is simply that it is very time consuming and boring. I don't believe that many people want to use so much of their time crossing a mostly empty planet.
  3. I salute you good sir. That was very impressive.
  4. IF it was possible to optimize the downforce so that you only use enough fuel to keep it on the ground until enough speed has been killed off, then I believe it would be more efficient to use brakes.
  5. I don't think anyone who is thinking about doing this is doing it to make it easier for themselves. It is more about is it possible.
  6. I believe the key to this might be mass. You might need alot of mass to resist the bounce and stay on the ground for long enough to kill your speed.
  7. I guess if we are here to nit pick on what the rules specify and what they don't, I could go to minmus and orbit around with RCS.
  8. Explosions... such a crude word for what is merely an accelerated release of energy.
  9. I am not too surprised. That man does a lot of great stuff... but he also did do a retro burn as expected. I am still wondering (and attempting to accomplish) if a pure landing is possible.
  10. I suppose a retroburn would have to be done once touchdown has been accomplished.
  11. Whoever moved the discussion, thank you. I noticed after posting that it was better suited here.
  12. I have been attempting a horizontal landing without any retro burns (other than de-orbiting) on the frozen lakes of Minmus. Do you think it is possible? Maybe someone has even tried it and maybe even managed to do it? I love my space planes... Search turned out no reports of such madness so I shall post a new thread. Discuss.
  13. I've been building a space train / fuel cargo ship. The train is the long part with the radial nuclear engines. It will still gain a few more fuel tanks before I send it on a mission.
  14. The kraken is chasing you as you sling yourself out of the solar system, assisted by Kerbol's gravity. The Prodigy - Out of space You put your first science lab/station into orbit Kraftwerk - Spacelab
  15. Oh wow... I didn't think my taste in music would spark such a dramatic reaction.
  16. I love... LOVE.... landing planes. http://www.twitch.tv/othuyeg/c/3801861 The harder, the better. http://www.twitch.tv/othuyeg/c/3868521
  17. I'd like to introduce my Station X, which is devoted for my nuclear space exploration program. It is in orbit to tend to the needs of my nuclear probes. It is basically a massive storage of fuel. I use it to refuel and construct my nuclear space trains. In this gallery I am constructing what I call a space train. It has an engine in the front (three nuclear engines) and a series of fuel tanks behind it in a chain. Once the rear tanks are empty I can drop them off. Here I am attaching the first tank in what is going to be a three to four part train. (let's see if I can successfully attach a gallery, haven't tried it before.) (and yes, I use mechjeb, but not for the docking... I think docking is one of the funniest things to do)
  18. One of my favorite designs for an escape pod is the glider: http://www.twitch.tv/othuyeg/b/507346363 You can easily glide a space plane from orbit as long as you get it to touch the atmosphere on periapsis. Aerobrake will bring it into atmosphere and control surfaces will allow you to glide it down safely. A solar panel or a generator is however needed to remain in control. Or, just put one small command pod, one parachute and a small engine. One parachute will be enough to keep it from disintegrating.
  19. For me one of the bigger challenges in space stations is to keep the part count down because space stations can easily grow into proportions where they affect the performance of my computer. That is why I tend to go with very simple designs. I have however done a few massive ones, but once I dock a massive space plane or two to it... it becomes a bit hard to use.
  20. Yep. Here is a video of me playing around with a concept inspired by the U.S Operation Credible Sport. What was Credible Sport? How did my attempt go: http://www.twitch.tv/othuyeg/c/3868521 It was a part of a challenge on the challenge forums. Forgive me from the laggy video. I don't have good streaming system.
  21. Always, always, make sure you have a source of electricity for your probes. And do not leave SAS on during time warp. One solar panel is not enough as it can get stuck in your own shadow and then you are going nowhere.
  22. You would not believe the amount of stuff in my orbit. Seriously, there are only like twenty active satellites, but enough scrap to make atleast another sixty. I build space stations the size of mountains just so I can go at them with missiles.
  23. I build space planes with rockets and shoot them into bits.
  24. Refueled my space plane and also transported two new atomic missiles to my space station along with another jumbo fueltank. (not seen in the picture)
