Kerbal Dynamics: Operation Kessler
Othuyeg replied to ihtoit's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Woah... What have I started. I had no idea what my Kesslerbomb would start. Oh my. Oh my indeed. "We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad Gita; Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and, to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, 'Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' I suppose we all thought that, one way or another " - Robert Oppenheimer Also, great work guys. Since it is not yet in this thread, I am going to add the gallery of my original KSS LR BMB mk1. It will not compete in this challenge in any way. The ship in the first pictures is the target ship, designed for one simple purpose, to go in a retrograde orbit and intercept the kesslerbomb's little bomblets. -
I admit to using Jebediah's head for lithobreaking a glider. I justify my actions by referring to the successful landing of said craft.

Show off your Kethane Mining Designs!!

My mission on minmus continues. I delivered my first space toilet. It can also be used to refuel EVA packs. -
It turns out kerbals need spacetoilets. To do space... business. My minmus mining operation did not have one and after a few years the kerbals on site were starting to send in displeased communications. I delivered my first space toilet. It can also be used to refuel EVA packs.

Kerbal Warfare Challange
Othuyeg replied to Urist Dwarvenhammer's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I would like to add that my kesslerbomb also works as a magnificent karpetbomb. It can be delivered precisely from orbit and will decimate a large area. -

I have plans for a bigger, more precise version. -

When will people learn that hydrogen is safer than petrol/gas

The department of experimental sciency stuff has advised me to inform you that these observations can not be scientifically proven to be in any way related to any experiments that are definetly not being conducted. They were very keen on explaining that especially no experiments that definetly are not being even considered would in any case involve anti-gravitational fields, levitation or something they called a "resonance cascade".

totm june 2018 Work-in-Progress [WIP] Design Thread

9t3ndo, dude the lighting effects on that first picture are absolutely perfect. Such a nice picture. -
I put together a very simple SSTO (stock, part clipping used). This one was a success on the first run, other than I forgot my actiongroups, once. The fuel balance is slightly off, but it does go nicely around the Mun. First album: Into orbit Second album: Decided to do a mun flyby since it only requires so little dV and I had plenty to spare. Then saw an island and decided to visit it. Tell me your thoughts on the plane. I know I used the advanced SAS which is just heavier and serves no purpose, but meh.

Post your planes of any type here! [.23]

It has been proposed that the lack of pirates is the leading cause of climate change. Also, did you know that - Not a single historical fact points towards there ever having been such a thing as a pirate's treasure map - a pirate captain did not have his own cabin - the captain would only ever have full control over decisions regarding battle - the captain did not make the decisions on loot and dividing the loot - the rules on a pirate ship were very much like those in a boarding school. Lights were to be turned off at a set time, no women were to be allowed into the men's cabins etc. - Our modern impression of pirate speech, with all its yo-ho-ho-ing and timber shivering, was largely born from books like Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island and Hollywood films like Robert Newton’s 1950 adaptation of that novel

What is making my rocket unstable?
Othuyeg replied to T.C.'s topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Do you have the steam version of the game? If so, press f12 (may need to be pressed a few times) while in the game, then when you have finished taking screenshots, you go to your game library in steam and scroll down on the KSP page and there is the screenshot viewer. You click that and click show on disc and then you go to for example imgur.com, press upload pictures and you drag and drop the images there. You can then upload them and post a link to them here. -
Instead of crazy electric charges and suddenly fried astronauts we could simply feed the astronauts with plenty of iron or substitute their bones for metal. Then just build electric magnets to the floor. Jiggly bodyparts, hair, clothing and non metallic objects will still float, but hey atleast you can now walk on the floor. Kind of.

I wanted to investigate the so called Kessler syndrome. So I built the KSS LR BMB Mk 1 (known also as Kesslerbomb 1) I sent the bomb to intersect an "enemy" (jeb volunteered, brave man) and this is what happened before the game crashed.

Worst place? Kerbin. Building a base on your own backyard is simply the most boring thing to do when you can go to spaaceeee.

Is docking required to return from the Mun?
Othuyeg replied to dryer_lint's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
The amount of dV you need to return from Mun is very miniscule. My advise would be to look at someone like Scott Manley who makes absolutely beautiful tutorials. Observe how he makes his manouvers and you will get very good with basic manouvers. -
There's no way for this SSTO to get into orbit, is there?
Othuyeg replied to XOIIO's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Those Engine Nacelles are very poor air intakes. They give you alot of extra weight. I would simply ditch them. You don't need them. Also try adding more wings. Either a pair of delta wings or swept wings onto your current wings. Or both. It adds drag but you'll need the lift in thinner atmosphere. I would even try and add a pair of wings to the front. Wings = goood! -

Othuyeg replied to XOIIO's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Try this: put some of your air intakes into action groups. Toggle them off at takeoff and turn them on when you are starting to hit thinner air. When they are off they will not produce the massive amount of drag they do when they are on. -
Random Question About Gravity and Rogue Planets
Othuyeg replied to ZenithRising's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The trees might survive, but they would not be doing any photosynthesis. In the arctic areas plants can survive ten months a year below 0 celsius. The trees lose their leaves and store their sugar and chlorophyll in their roots and wait for the next growth period. In this state, a tree will survive very very long. Addition: My plan of action as the human race in that situation would be to establish as many geothermal and nuclear plants and use the energy to power growth bays with artificial light. -
http://www.twitch.tv/othuyeg/c/3862709 Here is an entry I did for a glider challenge. Here is the challenge: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/71417-Kerbal-Dynamics-Railgun It went 30415m without any control surfaces and no power.
