  1. Oooh so that is what they were for. Damn, I have learned something new. Thanks.
  2. Bad jokes? How about the current NASA funding?
  3. I am one of those weird ones. I was brought up in the woods, learned how to eat things raw. For me, red meat, be it game or beef, is most desireable when merely seared on the outside over an open flame. I have on occasion eaten some quality beef completely raw because it is good if well seasoned. I remember an occasion from my days in the military service. We were on a two week training in the forest and it was cold. How cold? Finland cold. -30c was the average temperature during those weeks. We were hauling our tents in the snow and rarely did the supply lines work as intended. So I took the liberty of shooting an european roe deer, propably not a legal thing to do there, but who really cared. Back then atleast we used to have live ammunition with us. I do not believe that is the case with the basic training trips these days. Now... the problem was, along with the food supplies we did not get, neither did we get any firewood. (You may say, but you are in a forest, why not chop down a tree? That is not how it works, you can not burn fresh wood.) And the time schedules were rather strict so there was not really time to be fancy. I ended up simply gutting the animal and picking the best bits into a small plastic bag for later use when I could cook them in the metallic thing used to eat in the forest: I naturally could not just take all of the meat with me, so I ate directly from the animal till I was full. I ended up messing my white winter camouflage bright red (turned brown later) and earned the rank of the maniac. Silly citydwellers.
  4. Hydrogen's monatomic form is the most abundant chemical substance in the universe, constituting roughly 75% of all baryonic mass. So yeah, we will have no problem with using up our hydrogen. Also the amount of helium produced would be insignificant, even if we powered the planet with fusion for the next one thousand years. We use alot of helium and it is hard to come by. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1305386/Earths-helium-reserves-run-25-years.html
  5. This is something that happens to me very often, and if it is caused by the same thing, then you want to go check that your fuel lines are all connected correcly. For me they sometimes disconnect or connect to something else, such as a structural part.
  6. This is a must, when ever doing something noteworthy for the first time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEEzbFxEbB8 This picture may explain the reference: http://i.imgur.com/DH5GZWU.jpg Also... This compilation when just doing normal KSP stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UT4i5B4ZOsE
  7. My Jebediah is safely in a polar orbit. I sent him there, because I want to keep him safe and there is no safer place.
  8. We know how to do it, we simply lack materials and material technology to contain it in a fashion suitable for power generation.
  9. Umm.. No. Water is water, you can extract hydrogen from seawater just as you can from fresh water. And... You don't run a car on water, you run it on hydrogen extracted from water and when the hydrogen burns in the engine, it produces water as the reaction product. Do not worry, we won't run out of water. Water is hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrogen and oxygen in the water are separated using energy (electricity). You now have separate oxygen and hydrogen. Hydrogen is then put into an engine along with oxygen and when these two react they release energy (heat) and produce water. At no point is water lost.
  10. Maybe a narrated movie about achieving orbit and orbital mechanics. A great way to dress up information as entertainment. Maybe people would love to see a movie where you don't point a spaceship at something and just burn all the way while stopping unpowered.
  11. There is a scientific theory that explains however that kerbals have similiar regenerative properties as lizards. This is based on the observation that they are green. Just as we have found out by examining their green spectrum that they are immune to radiation.
  12. Well... Here is some awesome Win instead of fail. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/80362-Into-Jool-and-back-up
  13. Oh and since I highly value my Jebediah, the first thing I did in my latest career mode was to put him into a polar orbit. He has been there since. Safe.
  14. Edit: Original post went to the wrong thread, so what have I done in KSP today. Absolutely nothing but planned my grand mission to EVE. And mapped EVE for kethane.
  15. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUzxYDvvWEk
  16. We simply need to implement a prime directive.
  17. There is science there somewhere.
  18. Jebediah misunderstood the idea of "solar observation". They were not alone, yet they felt very lonely and small.
  19. Well... I guess now the question is, can anyone else do it or how close to the bottom can others go. Edit: also, added you to the OP.
  20. Umm... I guess this kind of means... The challenge is over? I must congratulate you. I really did not think it was possible to get into orbit from the very bottom... Damn.
  21. In this challenge we go into Jool's atmosphere and come back up into orbit. You need to build a ship, which needs to be launched from Kerbin, travel to Jool and into Jool's atmosphere, as deep as you can, and then regain a stable orbit around Jool. Your ship can be launched in multiple segments, you can dock anywhere during your flight. You may even use a SSTO if you really want to. You do not have to be in orbit before dipping into the atmosphere, so you can just shoot in from interplanetary space. Unmodded game and modded entries will have different categories. Mechjeb and mods that give you flight data are not considered mods in this as they do not really alter your performance so if your ship is otherwisely stock, it is stock. Do put into your post which mods you are using. Mods which give you godlike powers or way way over the top engines, aren't allowed. So no trillion meganewton warpdrives. Remember, aerodynamics altering mods also are mods. (Mods that change the way things look, aren't considered mods here.) To enter, post screenshots. Preferrably before entering the atmosphere, at the lowest point and after regaining a stable orbit. Remember, Jool's atmosphere ends at 138.2 km. Entries: EDIT: BMBender takes the cake. He went to 500 meters above the kraken line even before the challenge was up. Therefore he now sits upon his rightful throne above all else. Unmodded: Modded: Edit: Give me feedback if there is something about the challenge you feel needs to be specified further or if you have an idea on how to make it better.
  22. Horses are single cell organisms, they have no noses. Where do babies come from?
  23. I'd like to add to the discussion that my submission was in no way serious. I just wanted to see how fast I can shoot through the atmosphere. Appears, quite fast.
