Hype Train 1.0.5: The Local Train Route
Curveball Anders replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
It's sunday and post halloween. Many of us are just struggling to get out of bed -
There's quite a lot of Kerbals with -gas in their name. I wonder if that's why the entire race is so green in their faces?

One ticket, coach class please. -
Hi Joe and welcome anonymous kerbalholics, here we're all the same.

How many KSP Players are there?
Curveball Anders replied to DiamondExcavater's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Just keep in mind that there's a lot of us that will never touch steam. -
Please keep changes between the demo version and the 'real' version in mind. I almost dropped KSP after playing the (then) old demo and failed to get even the most basic (youtube) tutorials to work due to changes in SAS.

Hyperthreading doesn't lock half the core out in any way, shape or form. Extensive testing with strict single thread software can show as much as a whopping 1-2% in performance gain. But only for that process, and with just system default processes running disabling HT actually slows the computer down. So if you get that kind of performance boost in KSP then you should look for some other explanation. Edit: Here's just one of the tests that's published over the years. https://semiaccurate.com/2012/04/25/does-disabling-hyper-threading-increase-performance/

I'd like to add some more moons and planets to get even more mission variation (and new difficulties). But I wouldn't change much, if anything at all, with the existing system. One have to remember that the current selection of bodies are adjusted from the 'real ones' to allow for a gradual increase in difficulty.

No. Is it logical? No. Is it sensible? No. But it is Kerbal? Oh YES!.

The problem with any game like KSP is that it's limitations isn't with the game's limits nor abilities. It's with it's ability, or lack of it, to trigger (im)possible scenarios within the mind of the player. After some 18 months of mostly fails but some random success I'm still blessed with several years of more or less stupid things I want to try (and most likely fail) in KSP

I still vote for 'Kesos'

Well since he did ask us if he should save his valiant kerbonaut, he has qualified himself for the "erh, let's save this for later, when we've got a bit more time and cash"-queue

Mighoul Saboodo(Maxmaps) is invited to The White House ?!?

So that's why they pushed for an early 1.0.5. Porkjet has secretly added parts to build SpaceShip One -
How to handle fairing lift?
Curveball Anders replied to Dorlan's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Thank you, that solved an annoying mystery for me. I solved my invisible/internal wobble by just strutting the payload better, just as if launched without any fairing. But strutting it to the fairings is likely even better. -
What if KSP were to reach 2.0? What would happen?
Curveball Anders replied to Sanguine's topic in KSP1 Discussion
To go from updates to sequel there has to be some serious new stuff. Look at the Civilization series for instance. New engine, new game play, new graphics, etc and lots of other new stuff. There might come a day when the current game, regardless of updates, simply can't be patched to allow the new content that the studio wants. But that doesn't mean that the first game dies, nor that everyone just rushes ahead and picks up the new one. -

Why does Walt Kerman wear a hazmat suit?

It's even funnier when you remember that Squad is an interactive marketing company (with a game studio tucked on). If anyone knows the potentially toxic environment of PR and Marketing, it's them -
I like them because they give yet another type of brick in my box of toys. Like building a fuel station on an asteroid. Not because I need one, but because I can do it.

I had a double staging error. First the boosters was ignited and decoupled at the same time, with expected results. Once the dust had settled the capsule on the top of the still stationary main rocket body wobbled a little, and fell off ...

Never had one 'jump', have seen several 'walk' away from their original position. At one occasion we actually had one walk on command. The trick was to find points on the disk that generated the most head-movement, and then find the resonance frequency of the cabinet. The result was similar to a washing machine on spin cycle with unbalanced load.

Weirdest kerbal names in other languages
Curveball Anders replied to 322997am's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Just imagine sharing a small capsule with him for an extended time ... -
Keep in mind that the number of users that are registered at the forum are a fraction of the total number of people who play the game and that the number of people of ever posting on the forums (or even reading) are an even smaller fraction. So the accuracy will be quite limited Anyway, I use MJ, VOID and ScienceAlert (when I want to fly manually I fire up X-Plane).

What brand of GPU do you use to play KSP?

My kids has never had any problems with the complexity, it's more been an issue of finding time to play. But then I define "kids" as people < 35, since eldest is 34

I've got a Sun Enterprise 450 (a proper computer, since it's got wheels ...). 4x400 MHz UltraSparcII's 4 GB RAM and almost 250 GB HDD ... Once upon a time it was an awesome database server (and it's still decent), but for any form of general computing it's slower than a 10+ yo laptop It also consumes more power than all my other computers together (and I've got quite a few) and makes more noise than a bunch of old vacuum cleaners at full blow ...
