  1. Welcome onboard and don't worry, we'll hide you in a cargo bay.
  2. Also known as the builder's (or architect's) quiz: As you want it. On schedule. Within budget. Pick one (or on lucky cases two) out of three
  3. I'd love to test, it's just that I wont touch Steam with a ten foot pole. But I do understand and respect the Squad's choice so I'll just continue to deploy senseless contraptions and code along on my optimal launch calculation toy
  4. Ah, but there are details. You aren't allowed to share versions post the first paid for version. Unless you can prove that the receiver already has a paid for version, which Steam can (kind of). Squad could of course let the 'middle' versions free but it might be tricky for several reasons, various legal contracts being one of them.
  5. Note the experimental (as in a select group of non-Squad getting access) hasn't been announced yet, they've just teased that it might possibly be announced this week. And, as stated, the experimental phase will likely be a bit longer than usual due to the big internal changes. So I assume that the train is being polished, but it's not accepting passengers just yet.
  6. Spacedock isn't an official mod repository, it's at best a community supported site that might be valid given some time. I don't know why you have your knickers in a twist over Curse, but you might get over it.
  7. You are aware that legal, steam and other corporate excrements happened after the versions they released for free (since they've already released them from free). No matter if they want to let us download the later iterations or not, they would end up in deep legal yoghurt if they did.
  8. When people use word like 'we' or 'the majority' one should be aware that the majority of KSP users actually just play the game, they don't even browse the forums. And the minority that does just browse for tips, few of the minority even registers or even less posts a single question or comment. It's not unique for KSP, it's the norm for every game on the market. Actually, KSP users might break the norm by being more active, but it's still a very small vocal minority that's represented on the forums. So when you see stuff like "the majority dislikes <whatever>", you might want to ask: "what majority?"
  9. Nathan is a witch! He turned me into a newt! Burn him! Burn Him!
  10. Which is exactly where we are. The community deals with it. And the message from Squad is, we deal with core, you deal with mods.
  11. I've run community sites.
    I've run community wikis.
    I've hosted community sites.
I've been GM and even 'God' in onlines games since before the web, when online meant telnet, mail and netnews.
I've paid hard cash to host, I've sweet-talked managers to let me host my 'funnies' on the university/corporate net.
But one thing that I've never done is to even hint that I should have credit for it.
I get my kicks now, when 'ye oldes' get together and people say "hang on, you're _that guy_?"
You had it coming, but you got greedy, sorry.
(Oh, yeah, I got the young blonde too ;))

  12. I've been running 'community' portals, I've been coding for them, I've paid hard cash for them.
I also have a RL job making sure that services work on a national scale.
So yeah, I know the difference between 'community service', 'commercial service', 'fundamental society service' and 'this excrements can't be allowed to fail'.

No, not you, 'some' others seem to temporarily have their knickers in a twist ;)
But it's a non-issue, I just get a little bit edgy when people refuse to see the bigger picture (yes, it's bad to drag RL job issues into a game, I'm a bad bad person ;))

    3. Kerbart

      Kerbart

KerbalStuff, the gift that keeps on giving! A large part of the KSP community is immature (in the literal sense; high school/college student) and are oblivious to the and who is going to pay for that argument.

I guess you're not the only bad person around here, hahahaha!

I'm proud to be part of the KSP community.

But yeah I'm 54 and it says "senior information architect" on my card  ;)

I still fail trying to do optimal launches in KSP :/

  13. I did try to be neutral, not nasty ;)

  14. What part isn't very nice? That they are a corporate entity or that some regard them as the reincarnation of "something very nasty"? _I_ don't have any issues with Curse, I was just reflecting on the fact that _some_ very vocal members of the community appears to view them as the coming of <insert local and cultural variation of Ragnarök> I think that I was both nice and rational in that post (but then, English is my second language). (ok, I shouldn't have added the part where I equalled chubby barbie with apple products)
  15. Curse is an established corporate entity that Squad partnered with to handle mods and other uploads. They are also known by some as Belzebub, the Bringer of Hellfire, the site that will infect your brain with hideous viruses and force you to buy chubby barbie dolls and apple products.
  16. As far as I know no commercial game studio or publisher has ever integrated links to an outside mod (or similar) storage unless there's been a binding commercial contract between the parties (as between Squad and Curse for instance). Several has just like Squad has both allowed and actively used official channels to help and promote all kinds of third party development. (CCP/EvE Online has been doing that for 10+ years, including hosting 3:rd party developers as speakers at FanFest, but never added such links to the actual game). Because there's a very nasty chasm of business considerations, content control and legal red tape between using official channels to promote something, and to integrate a third party site or tool in the actual product. On the other hand there's several 'unofficial, independent alternative' sites that have outlasted the actual game(s) (and studios and publishers) by many years
  17. Same here, often accompanied by hilarious fails and random explosions that leaves me both totally confused and giggling at the time
  18. Similar here. Except that I'll play both 1.0.5 and 1.1 until I've finished my outstanding stuff in 1.0.5. But since my installs are very small (1.5G) I'll most likely keep it until I migrate to a new computer/hdd, just like the other earlier installs I still have on my disk.
  19. Mine are only limited by my poor imagination and lack of competence
  20. Or at least they weren't before KSP happened But it still means that we have no idea what Squad is up to next time. Their next project might just as well be a sanctuary for migrating polar bears or a dance school for one legged tap dancers.
  21. Going from a community mod that seems to work for the fraction of users that have installed it is quite far from adding stuff to stock where it has to work for all users on all platforms.
  22. Sandbox allows you to define your own challenges and restrictions.
