Kerbal Space Program 1.1 Hype Train Thread.
Curveball Anders replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I can confirm that. I just ordered a new pint and currently it's not possible to decide it's location nor it's speed, So the train must be moving at c2, or the bartender is an Aussie, like always. -
What's your preferred method of playing KSP?
Curveball Anders replied to ZooNamedGames's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I'm so old and grumpy that I nicked the X-box controller I use from my well paid sysdev middle son. I had the patience to raise him, so I can nick his abandoned controller. And even with Unity, installing controllers take less patience than kids ...- 51 replies

Bad practice to chase for new victims users with a shaky new release. Unless Squad wants to teach new users that stuff happens and half-panic updates is the norm -

Kerbal Space Program 1.1 Hype Train Thread.

Please delay 1.1 I just realised that I've forgot the Indian (MoM) probe in my Mars/Duna save. -
What music do you listen to while playing KSP?
Curveball Anders replied to Scenter102's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Cygnus X1 from Hemispheres is a good space tune for long travels. -
No, but it has happened that I've said "<explicit> this" after a bad launch, and gone to the pub. Then I reverted the save or launched a rescue mission to get the poor bugger the next evening

You should feel sorry. It sounds like a perfect friday evening fun

Wait... Caps Lock does something in KSP?

AND IT'S NOT VERY SOFT TO SHOUT AT PEOPLE ON THE FORUMS. Oops, sorry, was fine-tuning my landing ... -
While I don't really bother about any of them except #2, they kind of echo my own rules. As long as they are fun #1 has often kept me doing 'basic' flights (and spending way too much time making them as good as possible) before I've gotten anywhere near my target for a given save. Just checked my last 'completed' save (with a target of mimicking the current crafts on and around Mars/Duna). And according to the time/date of my backup saves I spent 3/4 of the time fiddling with Kerbin, Mün and Minmus, before even sending the first probe for a Duna flyby ... (Yes, I'm not only a Grumpy Ol' Git, I'm a sad one too)

Spent another 4-5 hours last night optimising the launch of a science lander to my Science Station (Mk.5) in Minmus orbit. The final design dropped booster and first stage sub-orbital (autodestruct, no debris) and the orbital stage was dropped just before the payload entered orbit to rendezvous with the station (again minimal Kessler). Yet the payload was docked to the station with 96% of it's fuel intact. Then I went to the pub and tried to brag about my beautiful design and was met by a decidedly non-caring stare ...

The earliest versions of Kerbal Space Program
Curveball Anders replied to KasperVld's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I've got a copy, but I'm not going to share it, partly for legal reasons. The other reason is that I don't want to share even with my worst enemy since it almost stopped me from getting into KSP. The problem I had with that demo was that the demo differed in several drastic ways from the then current paid version. So if you used the demo and then watched tutorials on how to build and fly your rocket, it would fail, explosively. It took me about 24h (and half a bottle of scotch) to realise why my rockets failed, the SAS had been moved from the Mk.1 capsule to the specific module. Once I realised the problem I whipped out the leather (erh, plastic actually) and paid for the game. That was 2+ years ago, and I've never regretted that investment in fun. -
I'm not addicted, I can stay away. But while away from my proper rig I still have KSP installed on my laptop/typewriter (it's only real use is running a word processor and basic Interwebs browsing). I can't actually fly anything with > 3 parts, but I can design and build stuff
-
I actually don't have any fallen Kerbals in any of my saves (except the special 'drink-and-play'-save). But I have (just counted) 26 Kerbals in deep yoghurt spread over 5 saves that awaits the tech/funds to save them right now (Just relax Tedbart, yes you're out of fuel and EC. But you're in a stable orbit and you've got snacks. We'll get you home, sometime ...)

I've been playing strange math-metal on my ES-335 half-acoustic guitar, in drop-D tuning ... But yeah, there's been dub-step too ... -
I had a similar experience some time (year) ago. Since then I have a script that backs up my various 'saves' directories to a 'timedate-version'-named directory on my server every time I shut my gaming rig down. (There's a compressing and pruning of old crud running on the server every early morning so I don't even have to bother about disk space )
-
I spent 4 hours (so far) today launching the same payload (a 27(-ish) ton supply drone, aka "progress") into a 75x75 orbit. Tweaking design and MJ "Ascent Guidance" parameters between each launch. All to please my own undiagnosed OCD to achieve the most efficient launch

Kerbal Space Program 1.1 Hype Train Thread.
Curveball Anders replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
My hype is steadily increasing as I just spent two days away from my gaming rig for social reasons (as in a woman who's plans didn't include me playing KSP). But since browsing the forums (and the bug tracker) was still possible I'll play the 'Ye Olde Ex Project Manager"-card and hope that we'll get 9-10 more days of Hype. All my ongoing saves in 1.0.5 is kind of in a stable state and might survive migration, and I just spent about 4 hours optimising, tweaking and repeating the design and launch profile of my bog standard 'Progress' supply ship (or rather the lifter stage to get about 30 tons of payload into a 75x75 orbit). I'd still rather spend the next 10 days tweaking designs/profiles and performing endless trials then get 1.1 before it's ready. Rather late and good than now and broken. -- There was two male rabbits, one young and one old, sitting on the top of a hill looking down over the field below where several female rabbits was grazing. - Let's run down and get one each! Said the young rabbit. The older rabbit sighed and shook his head. - Nono, let's walk down and get all of them ... -- Aesop Kerman -
It comes pre-stocked with lots of snacks.

There's a lot of shared fan base between EvE and KSP. Possibly due to space and spaceships, and maybe also because of the totally different atmosphere (easy, laidback, no-drama single player KSP to ease ones nerves after some hours in the dark, plotting, backstabbing, multi player space politics EvE). When at home I often have KSP on one monitor and EvE on another, But some months ago I actually shifted KSP to the central monitor and shuffled EvE over to the right. I actually got intrested in KSP beacuse I was reading Jester's Trek while Jester was on the CSM, and he often posted about his adventures in KSP in between the EvE posts.

I have very few. Have fun. No repetition of tedious and/or boring manual flight (unless it's fun). Have fun. No grinding for science or funds (unless it's fun). Keep all Kerbals alive, always revert or rescue when needed (unless it isn't fun). Have fun. That's all I think, and of course, have having fun, it's a game after all.

Strange and confusing.

I used to use something similar (Ye Olde Saitek X-36 Hotas) but I felt it being obnoxiously large and taking up too much desk space since I only used it for manual docking (and catching 'roids), driving rovers and flying the few planes I fly (in KSP that is). That's why I switched to the X-Box controller.

Nah, that's a myth. It gets better with experience.
