[1.7.2] KK Launchers - Delta, Atlas Pack
Kartoffelkuchen replied to Kartoffelkuchen's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Thank you! Progressing nicely and absolutely on-schedule with Falcon 9 1.1 and 1.1 FT: Our goal is to release it before RTF. Right now, we should be ready with it by the 10th. Only the landing legs could cause some trouble, but we'll see. -
[1.7.2] KK Launchers - Delta, Atlas Pack
Kartoffelkuchen replied to Kartoffelkuchen's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
A bit of both. For one, as Delta_8930 already said, Unity 5 opens up a whole bunch of new possibilities. You can make your own shaders, and generally the shaders are really improved. And I don't think the old textures would keep up with the quality we could reach with the new shaders. So I'll redo the textures once 1.1 is released, because of its new features, and also a bit because I want to improve the textures anyway, and 1.1 is the perfect point of time for that. -

@fairy Yes as I said I won't put so much effort into the textures now, I will have to redo them all for KSP1.1 anyway. -

@DarthVader MvacD/Merlin 1D Vacuum and DV+ for 1.1 FT are finished (also textured). Not the prettiest textures I've ever made, but good enough I'd say. @Tristonwilson12 Heh, seriously? :PI've been only working on the Falcon's in the last weeks. I also have some kind of real life, school work increases again too, so I had no time for that. Once Falcon family is done Delta 4 will the next thing to be worked on. Generally, we've decided to keep the time I spend texturing the Falcon 9 (and future rockets) as low as possible, so the textures will be good but not super detailed. Simply because I'll need to remake *all* textures for KSP 1.1 so there's no point in making super detailed textures now, when I'll have to redo them in two months again, hope you guys understand that. (+, cause we hope to get F9 out before RTF, but that's a minor aspect ) -
Oh, interesting. They really want to beat Blue Origin now (in landing a rocket stage back on land which actually launched a orbital mission, and if they succeed also in reflying a landed booster I suggest), it seems. Though I don't know if this is that clever. There are no big changes from 1.1 to 1.1FT, but I'd rather make one more barge attempt to make sure everything is working instead of a RTLS with loads of reporters and cameras there which then fails. And everybody will then probably report that SpaceX failed and BO is much more advanced than they are or something.

Oh yeas awesome, clap clap clap!

Oh wow, it's getting better and better! Now the subscriptions are lost... And the fact that all the links are completely broken is really the worst thing. But I believe enough people already complained about that. (BTW, is it just an issue on my end or is the editor a bit slow? It feels a bit like playing KSP while trying to launch a 500 parts rocket.)
-
This is not only a step back, it's a giant leap back! It looks like a mixture of Facebook and Twitter, with no real relation to KSP. And seriously: Links, quotes etc do not work!? Are you serious guys? Do you expect now everyone to fix his posts up or what?

Falcon 9 1.1 users guide was published: http://www.spacex.com/sites/spacex/files/falcon_9_users_guide_rev_2.0.pdf Though no word on performance "ask SpaceX for information" Confirms that M1D can throttle down to 70% Though it's a bit strange that some numbers clearly are for F9 1.1 FT...like first stage thrust

[1.7.2] KK Launchers - Delta, Atlas Pack
Kartoffelkuchen replied to Kartoffelkuchen's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
That sounds right. They don't really pivot out at the bottom, they "jump" more apart from each other. They pivot a little bit. @MajorLeaugeRocketScience Don't know. I'm more concentrated on F9 1.1 and 1.1 FT right now. Probably towards end of this year. EDIT: Oh god. The OP! Fluff me! Everything is a big mess...I hate this now already, why couldn't we stay with the old one? Now I have even more to do... thank you Squad -
Uhm...this is a bit strange. No posts here? My inbox is exploding btw (433% storage used)...

Hum, strange. Is there a Aerohider.dll in your GameData folder? Remove it, it's not required anymore. -
Or maybe the snacks liquified and splashed around ? :-)
:D Seriously, I just tested it again, I had a very clean fairing seperation at 35km at about 1.1km/s. A thing which you could do wrong is that you don't point your rocket at prograde marker really, so your AoA could still be a bit too big, even if the atmosphere is really thin there. Try to point the rocket at prograde before seperating the fairings. -
About the Falcon 9 fairings: Are they supposed to decouple on the bottom and pivot at the top, or should it be the other way around like the Atlas V 400 fairings with the Fairing Separation Engine?
Yes, as DarthVader already mentioned, they are supposed to decouple the same way as all other fairings, meaning they pivot at the bottom, but without the need for these nasty little Fairing Seperation Engines. That was pretty hard to figure out, I ended up with changing the magnitude of it. Yes, that seems works perfectly fine. I've tested it out multiple times (About 20 times) in many different situations. They don't seem to decouple right if you are below ~35km, so try to decouple them above that altitude. If you are still having issues, please let me know and describe how heigh and how fast you are when decoupling the fairings. :) -
[1.7.2] KK Launchers - Delta, Atlas Pack
Kartoffelkuchen replied to Kartoffelkuchen's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Hui, let's start. Dragon? No, currently it's not planned by me, check two pages back someone is already working on it. F9 1.1 will be released together with F9R, so I won't release basic falcon 9 1.1 first, and then update with landing legs, gridfins, RCS, simply because the aim to reuse the 1st stage and the efforts from SpaceX which went into this are unique, and when I think of Falcon 9 I always link it with a first stage landing. A falcon 9 1.1 without legs is pointless. :P Vega, no, I don't to conflict eith liquidhype there. Only if he wouldn't come back, then we could talk again, but right now, no. Minotaur rocket family / Taurus is a good suggestion, I will work on this when Delta family is completed. Payload capacity of F9 1.1: I've figured out some numbers for it some days ago, how I should balance it. I believe mass to orbit without boostback & landing about 10-14t, with landing about 8t to LKO. I'd have to guess noe for GTO, but 3-4t should be alright. Soyuz - Fregat: Check raidernicks, he's made a pretty good one I believe. Zenit, also no. As mentioned above, check the Horizon Aeronautics zenit, it's an awesome vehicle! Could need a small update for 1.0.5, but no real reason for me to do my own. :) Edit: Thanks fairy, also well said. ;) -

That's it for today. M1DV is the latest part of the "core model", then on to F9R parts. -
How to add Windows to your command pod
Kartoffelkuchen replied to Daelkyr's topic in KSP1 Modelling and Texturing Discussion
Well, first, you want to create the shape of the window. If you want it to be more than a disk, you can use the mirror modifier. It mirrors what you have done on the one side to the other side. To actually cut a window into your capsule, you'll want to use the boolean modifier. Apply it to the command pod, set object to the window, set to difference. I'd recommend you to watch some videos about that though. -
Are you going to add legs to the falcon 9 1.1? Or have you not figured out animated parts quite yet?
Let me quote myself:
I'll add the fuel lines and such to it, then onwards to Interstage, second stage, Mvac and then gridfins and landing legs. Landing legs will be hard. Very complex shape.
;) -
[1.7.2] KK Launchers - Delta, Atlas Pack
Kartoffelkuchen replied to Kartoffelkuchen's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Well, that's for SELV, and SELV is not really meant to be realistic, so thinks don't take as long as it does here. And yeah, as I said, there are enough detailed saturns out there. The point of selv is more like giving the players some parts with which you can create the rocket the parts are based on, but you can also use it in a totally different way. And I've not longer worked on SELV since 3 months or something... -
[1.7.2] KK Launchers - Delta, Atlas Pack
Kartoffelkuchen replied to Kartoffelkuchen's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Hey Kart, When you're done with all of these EELVs how about doing Saturn rockets?
Well, no. I don't really have interest in those old launchers, I mean, they are impressive and super cool and all, but there are, as other people mentioned, enough other Saturns out there.
(Fingers crossed for something new and shiny, instead of that old rustbucket).
I guess a Falcon 9 1.1 would be ok then? ;) The first stage is pretty much done, that was the hardest part. As you can see in the second image, the "plates" covering the engines are removable, so you will have a good look at how the engines are arranged in the octaweb there, just as a little "gimmick". :P I'll add the fuel lines and such to it, then onwards to Interstage, second stage, Mvac and then gridfins and landing legs. Landing legs will be hard. Very complex shape. -
The first stage for Orbcomm OG2 has been shipped to Cape Canaveral a few days ago. So we probably had a successful full duration static fire test now, man, that took like ages, though there's still no confirmation on that from SpaceX. It seems like they would be on schedule for the OG2 launch, I just hope that they won't run into anymore issues.
Question: where is the link for delta/atlas packs?
The links will be added once I got the rockets ready and working in 1.0.5. ;)
