Trouble Getting Into Mun Orbit or Mun Landing
SmiteZero replied to Nataris's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
He\'s right. Come around the backside towards the direction the Mun is coming from is the most efficient because at the same time as you\'re accelerating away from the Mun, you\'re also slowing your orbital speed to drop back to Kerbin. -

Perhaps there is a difference between the search bar in the top right and hitting 'Search' at the top left. I\'m going to guess that one only searches the current thread. And that is where I failed humankind. -
Trouble Getting Into Mun Orbit or Mun Landing
SmiteZero replied to Nataris's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Yep. I\'ve never had good success with a direct descent to the Mun. Establish an orbit first before descent. Getting off the Mun is easy as pie. No atmosphere and no gravity. You\'ll need very little thrust. Do it the same as on Kerbin, basically, but gentler. (MUCH gentler) Get an orbit, wait for the window and blast off home. Coast for a bit and you should fall back into Kerbin\'s SOI. From there unless you\'re coming straight in you\'ll have to do more burns to push your Pe into the atmosphere. Because it would be too much to ask that typing 'Kosmos' in the search bar would actually show the thread with Kosmos in the title. S:| : -

^ Wot he sed Burning prograde will raise the opposite side of your orbit. Obviously then burning retrograde will lower the opposite side. It\'s pretty easy. -

Kosmos doesn\'t seem to exist on the forum.. By the way, the wheels are pretty cool. -
Make it smaller.

3/10 As an artist I find your image manipulation painful to gaze upon. And I hate <marquee>. And roleplay.

Trouble Getting Into Mun Orbit or Mun Landing
SmiteZero replied to Nataris's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
People have already said it, but you need to turn retrograde and fire to slow down. The best place to do this is at your Pe mark in the map view, but you may want to do it sooner to start the process and lower your Pe. Turn backwards and give it all you\'ve got until you get an orbit. On approach to the Mun when you change to the Mun\'s influence, you might not have a Pe marker. If you don\'t want to just do a direct approach, you\'ll have to thrust sideways (sideways to your direction of travel when you switch the Navball to 'Orbital' mode) one way or the other to mush your trajectory off to the side. Then continue as above. Thrust retrograde before the Pe to lower it if it\'s too high and then at Pe to finally give yourself an orbit you can work with. -

F1 will save a screenshot automagically. -
I\'ve put a base on the Mun using a 4-stage rocket with payload fairings with zero orbital debris. It\'s not difficult. First stage: Achieve a a sub-orbital trajectory with an apoapsis of your desired orbit altitude. Dump first stage and payload fairings here after leaving atmo. Second stage: Kerbin orbital insertion, trans-munar injection, munar orbital insertion and finally braking enough around the Mun so you can dump this stage and it will impact the surface. Final stages for descent. Anything dropped here will also impact the surface and not be left as junk in space. Just needs some thought. I still havn\'t figured out how to launch a satellite without leaving a trailing tank and motor, though. S:|

Agree. Necro threads are not always bad to resurrect. These parts are still good, but some changes are required. I still want to use those radial boosters without them breaking my shit. Howabout it? Can anyone help?

Down Under Aerospace & Party Supplies [v0.5] [REMASTERED]
SmiteZero replied to Slew's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I have a question/comment on the 2m motor provided. Namely it wobbles as jelly when it\'s holding up the stack. Suggestions/Question: Fix the cfg for the next release and what value(s) should I change to make it so?
