there is a small problem in that you can only show a theory or how to arrive at a conclusion. if you were to go back in time and hand a paper off to einstein or newton or whatever, they simply wouldn't trust it as science and would probably cast it in the trash because it would look fishy. cited sources that do not exist, experiments that cant be carried out with the technology of the time, or with techniques not yet proven by scientists. especially problematic if there is a chain of work on which the theory was derived. you can just give them the paper on the thing but all the other papers that were cited in that work, and all the papers cited in those as well until you get back to work done by the scientists you are handing your theory over to. every one of those would have to be re-tested and peer reviewed.

now what are the chances of that massive hollow object not collapsing and crushing you into a tiny little sphere of meat paste?

something something acts of arson something. hence the mental institution.

not the end of the world, maybe a new dark age. unless maybe the entity that hacks it happens to be skynet. i dont think there is much the me does about locking down performance, it might run some control loops for cooling devices (it certainly doesn't need unfettered drive and network access to do that job). having control over what it does would be nice. but imagine the botnet you could set up on the computers of people who didnt know to kill the me. i dont like black boxes in my computer.
-
not that its tinfoil hat day but until i get an answer about what it manages and why i dont have control over what it does, im going to assume its a fast track to dystopia. the scary part isnt what it is (be it an nsa backdoor into your computer, a nannychip for drm enforcement, or an Illuminati plot) but what happens when it finally does get cracked. arbitrary code execution is already possible though it does require physical access, and you can buy computers with the me disabled. so its only a matter of time.

it means somebody really liked judas priest's painkiller. great album.

i think the starship may have been a little too ambitious. its significant as a proof of concept for an all composite aircraft, if not as a marketable product. at a time when aircraft were mostly metal construction i think a plane made out of fiberglass and epoxy would have been a really hard sell, so they took the apple approach and made it look cool instead of fly well. form over function really is not a desirable trait in an aircraft, but its good if you are trying to prove a point and i think they made it. otherwise we wouldn't be using composites in production modern aircraft.
-
i think it just has more roll trim authority than a typical aircraft. i know the baggage compartment is in the unmanned boom. in situations where no baggage is used ballast can be used instead. i googled this which is a step by step abstraction of the design process.

i really dont understand the hate for burt rutan and his boomerang. its just a one off test aircraft built to test a different configuration. the test was successfull enough that the plane was made part of the scaled composite airforce. it was used as a chase plane for the testing of space ship one and its successor. he was building all composite aircraft back in the '70s doing kit planes trying to sell the idea of all composite aircraft. they have produced some really out of the box (and quite sexy, see proteus, starship, etc) aircraft designs over the years while everyone else builds the tried and true saussage with wings design. i like where other people write the idea off as insane, he builds an airplane.

the advantage of that design is the distace between the props is much smaller than typical twin engine craft (they even overlap a bit). so in the event of an engine going out you have much reduced induced yaw. it does require 3 axis trim to fly well though. oh and an old macbook in the copilot seat is used for its avionics. its actually pretty neat. in this case 3, though im sure 4 happened at least once. he designed this plane to get over the specific problem outlined above.

i went to a mental institution. yay!

ive always wondered if airfoils would function at such high velocities. if a bit of down force could be generated to hold the 'rope' in the atmosphere long enough for drag to bring the whole ship into the atmosphere. would need to be a hypersonic wing design, possibly just a peice of wood out of one of the seats (they wouldnt use wood but lets say this spacecraft is made by ikea) wittled into a triangular shape with a bit of a curve on one side to form a crude delta wing, with maybe a couple stabilizer fins glued on. and then through some feat of engineering the precise center of lift on the foil is found and attached to said "rope". fishing boats use something similar to improve stability.

reign in blood its christmas music...

it does however cut a lot of the work when you go to sand it smooth.

i had no problem dating when i was younger. i had several girlfriends i high school. dated a lot in my 20s. but had enough bad experiences, like really bad, in my 20s. so by the time i hit 30 i was pretty much done.

you can put bacon on either one though so both get points for that. when i had access to big name pizza places, i always preferred pizza hut. but here we got 2 no name pizza places and they are both better than that. in fact some of the best pizza places ive eaten at were no name one offs.

i here there is a variable layer thickness feature in some slicers that can make better curved surfaces. unfortunately my slicer (cura) doesnt have that feature. alternatively you can lower your layer thickness to get a little better resolution, but it will take a lot longer to print. i model in 3d studio max, i slice in cura, and my printer is a printrbot play (with extended bed option).

the motion there is just from the targeting pod. which tracks the target. the plane is just turning slowly (20 degree bank), but the targeting pod is zoomed in and tracking the object and the result is rather nauseating. try doing the same thing with the pod in the bd weapons mod.

i prefer pizza but i can make either. its just pizza costs too damn much.

i havent been shopping for controllers since i bought my ch hotas 10 years ago. things just dont die.

im aiming for that moon around nils or whatever it was, then my dentist called me for an opening. six extractions. orbital mechanics and perkosets dont mix.- 4,170 replies

[1.5.1] Kerbal Star Systems [v0.8.2] August 18, 2018

i got my ship to stop in the kerolon system though its on a very eccentric trajectory. trying to land on one of mesmo's moons before we get too far away. i had to use 2 of my landers to do it, using one as a booster for the other, these kerbals are going to build a colony there and through the magic of kerbal ingenuity (and kerbal konstructs) are going to build a base there so i can launch a refueling mission.- 4,170 replies

[1.5.1] Kerbal Star Systems [v0.8.2] August 18, 2018
Nuke replied to StarCrusher96's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
as many as possible. i had my trajectory come in retrograde to the large gas giant to help me slow down, after i passed periphrasis i started the orion drive. managed to get a second assist off of one of the moons and managed to take about 5k m/s off of my deceleration manuver. but with a 4 hour burn, even at 4x time accel i didnt have time to complete the burn before i needed to go to bed, so i saved just as i was l leaving the moon system. i have some doubts about being able to stop before i run out of fuel. first off the ship is utterly massive. second i brought way to much lf for the secondary propulsion, which you only really need for trim manuvers, and i should have brought bigger nukes (i was half npu250s and half npu500s). hanger could use a size reduction, perhaps should have used the inflatable hanger instead, just need to size chop my landers too, i like my one way atmospheric drop pods, which is little more than a heat shield a parachute and couple seats and a couple re-entry thrusters. design a few podless landers as well. i might still be able to stop in system but i wont have much deltav after that. heres where i regret coming in retrograde.- 4,170 replies
