sometimes i wish extended franchises would actually extend the franchises rather than refleshing old ideas. this is probably why andor and rogue one turned out so good. star trek also has the problem where they either want to do something with the enterprise or established characters. deep space nine is still star trek at its finest (and it was a blatant b5 ripoff). id rather watch a show about zephram cochrain in a borg-augmented warp 3 delta in a rock'n'roll and tequila trek through the stars, doing what enterprise should have been from the get go. you just need to take a break from the same old heros and hero ships for a change.

i cant help but think that science is not about making lines look pretty. this is also why sound engineers keep destroying perfectly good music by flattening out all the bumps. squiggly lines are good.

so we will have 3 data points instead of 2. 3 is 50% better than 2.

Deep Space Network should be in deep space!
Nuke replied to darthgently's topic in Science & Spaceflight
i have a similar issue with the term outer space. outside of what? -
i mean id go out and look but the sky is very grey and has been since the aurora.

What is "sea level" on other planets?
Nuke replied to Themohawkninja's topic in Science & Spaceflight
the mode makes more sense than the average as it kind of filters out all the outliers. but then again you could always just use the lowest point if you dont want to deal with negative elevations. and thats not exactly unheard of on earth either (see death valley). besides as resolution increases you might find lower lows and higher highs and then you either have to revise all your elevation data or put up with the offsets. i just realized i walked into a zombie apocalypse. -
has the thing happened already? so far my track record for observing astronomical phenomena this year has not been great as everything looks like rain clouds. im told that there is a big glowing ball in the sky but i cant find it. much less the little glowing ball.

Francise scott key bridge. Could it be remade immune to damage?
Nuke replied to Arugela's topic in Science & Spaceflight
i find it disturbing how its easier to get a bridge re-built than it is to get one built. -
you can make money in ways other than being a patent troll. being at the cutting edge even if you give everything away it will still take a competitor several years to make money on it, by which time elon and co will be working on the next thing.

lets see: death race 2000 - the movie carmageddon was based on zardoz - sean connery doing something completely different beneath the planet of the apes - where are the mutants in all the remakes? primer - best time travel story with the least budget. the siege of firebase gloria - r lee ermy being awesome during the tet offensive. titus - anthony hopkins doing titus andronicus the killing fields - a cautionary tale about certain kinds of government outland - sean connery doing space stuff heavy metal - the 5th element before the 5th element. the boys from brazil - attack of the clones. my playlists are generally not for the squeamish.

my first day playing i spent several hours mining. but then when i went to cash in i accidently jettisoned cargo rather than extending the landing gear. i lost the cargo and got a fine for my trouble. it was two years before i played the game again. for 2 hours, when i got my quest 2. i play games to escape reality but that was too realistic for me.

weather forcast is worse tomorrow. i live in a raintforest so its not like this is unexpected. only time you really get a chance to see the northern lights is in winter when its too cold to rain, usually.

i got her a card and some chocolate. if i didn't she would probably whine.
-
overcast tonight. cant see anything.
-
i hope a little later, because things seemed to wrap up just as it was getting dark. no guarantee the skys will be clear again.
-
the sun came up. but by that point they had faded. actually saw them closer to dusk but by the time the sky had darkened they had faded, and i really didn't get a good view. actually comparing to some of the other aurora i seen this is a 1 out of 10. best one i saw was up in anchorage (was 8 or 9 at the time), in the middle of winter. we had red dancing ones that just lasted for hours.
-
been checking on it every half hour, seems to be fading.
-
i can faintly see them but they are very pale. there is just too much damn light pollution in the area. i did get some binoculars to see if i could focus on them and get more light, but the shine on the lenses from the street lights just blacks them out. i tried to find a star to adjust the focus on, but it turned out to be a planet. not sure if venus or jupiter. will check in another hour. i can still hope for a power outage.
-
suns still not down here yet. sky is still blue so im crossing my fingers.
-
there is some blue patches in the sky, but it looks like clouds are rolling in. we will see. but i see them all the time, being alaskan. helps if you can get out of the light pollution, then you see them all the time.
