wonder if anyone has tried regenerative cooling on re-entry surfaces. say with surplus cryofuel. you could use a cermet composite with a corrugated inner layer. this can just be an inner layer of sheet metal with coolant channels pressed into it bonded to another panel with a ceramic outer coating. should be pretty straight forward to manufacture those panels. the resulting hot fuel can be dumped or used in an air breathing deceleration thruster.

i mined the rest of yesteday and think my hash power was only worth about a quarter per day, so i pulled the plug. will try again next week and see if the numbers are better. way i understood it is that mining was a way to compensate you for keeping the blockchain online. it doesn't work without people putting hashpower out there, which costs money. people don't run servers for free. so i dont know how these coins can continue to operate without mining. btc is so hard to mine you need asics if you want to turn anything. etherium is the big experiment to see if you could sustain a crypto network with a lot less hash power. there are a lot of coins out there, but most of them are copycats that dont really contribute anything, just someone trying to make a buck. people forget that bitcoin is experimental, but it seems like the one i go to when i actually want to buy something (and i was using nicehash, which pays btc for hashpower despite actually mining etherium). it will crash to oblivion as soon as its mined out. by the time we know we should trade in for the next coin, its probibly already too late.

im pretty sure the cat gets plenty of food from that place. probibly sees a hundred or so cars coming out of there, and some of them are likely to contain cat people. yesterday i was eating this korean bbq pork jerky while playing an mwo match. i pulled out a huge piece and so tore off a section and started eating it. the match got interesting so i kind of focused on my game and forgot about it. after the match i went to the fridge to get a coke, and came back and it was gone. im not really sure what cat got ahold of it. later on i found a small fragment of it in the cat tower.

i think you would be better off with a couple males and 8 females. because in there will be a dominant male claiming all the females. the weaker males wouldn't be contributing much to the gene pool. females are interesting because they can have kittens from different males in the same litter. thats why so many cuddle puddles have that one kitten that just doesnt look like the others.

she has trained us humans to feed her on command. she thinks it works the same way with her natural prey. the food kitty is the jealous one. i figure at 20+ pounds she would have a better shot at learning to hunt before starving to death. ive only seen her make a run at a bird once. but out neighbors came out of their apartment all loud and obnoxious like and scared her. i dont think ive seen her try again. most she will do is go on the ground and play with bugs. however she is incredibly lazy and her weight takes away much of the speed and maneuverability that cats are known for. shes not very good at jumping and climbing. i have a feeling the predators would get the better of her.

my sister had a cat, would disappear into the woods for months at a time. she used to live out in the middle of nowhere, though not really that far from where i am now. but you need to take a skiff to get there. each time came back with scars, a limp, part of its ear missing, various parasites, etc. there are bears, moose, wolves, various types of weasel-like critters (including wolverines), various birds of prey, like bald eagles and mosquitoes the size of helicopters. cats can survive the nature, even the alaska nature, just fine. granted they are at a disadvantage to naturally wild or ferel cats and will have significantly higher death rates. the cat in question was left with one of my sister's friends while she was moving, he was supposed to send it down a month or two later, but apparently got arrested and the cat got away, never to be seen again. of my cats i think one is most definitely food and the other one stands a chance at survival if she could learn to stop meowing at her prey before she pounces. she did come back yesterday with a pigeon feather so there's still hope for her. if they cant hunt, avoid predators and find a place to hunker down for the winter i think they have a fighting chance. but i think if she was in a situation where she was separated from us, she would probibly make friends with someone else and just move in. the cat just likes everyone. im not sure about dogs. but feral cats are pretty common, the offspring of abandoned or escaped pets. the feline is a survivor. i think the dogs would fall back on their scavenging instincts, stay near humans, and eventually wind up in the pound.

electrical power is ultimately the limiting factor in the performance of ion/plasma thrusters. you could make some stupid powerful thrusters if you had a megawatt or more to pump into them. right now all the means to generate more power means more weight. more solar panels, a big collector for beamed power, or a nuclear reactor an all the radiators you need to make it work. fission-electric may turn out to be a dead end. you might be better off using the nuclear reactor to initiate a fusion thruster.

etherium is now officially on proof of stake. they days of using it to fund computer upgrades and online purchases is over. will it replace btc? maybe. will there be enough stakers to keep the network alive as a currency proper? that remains to be seen. people who only use gpus for games will likely say good riddance. i get that, i had to put off a gpu upgrade until the next generation which will likely be a ways out. one of the intended goals of crypto currencies was to decentralize hash power, and so far all attempts have failed. those who make the most money could simply buy the most hardware, and completely devastate that market and lock out anyone with a couple cards and doing the trickle grind from obtaining upgrades. i guess the real question is whats next. im still waiting to see what the next most profitable gpu minable currency is. ethereum was already on hair thin margins for me. was making a $1.30ish a day where power use was about 0.80 cents a day. il pull the plug at a dollar, and so far today its way below that. but it will take some time before the churn sorts itself out. so far it looks like the game is over.

we certainly have come a long way since we had to use cow intestines to store the stuff. in ww1 the germans actually banned sausage production so that their air ships had enough gas volume. if you know anything about german cuisine, you know that's a big ask.

how thin are your solar panels? if you can replace the upper skin with thin film solar cells then electric seems the way to go.

turn on the nfl kickoff game to see ozzy at half time. needless to say i dont like sports. i tune in expecting to see a performance, perhaps an homage to the queen. so halftime rolls around. they show ozzy for 2 seconds and then preempt the performance and proceed to talk about the events of the first half. i dont blame the nfl, its the damn network. im sick and tired of the american media trying to deny that metal exists. metal is performed in every country on all 7 continents (metallica once did a show for the penguins/scientists) by people of every race, religion, etc. its a global phenomenon. even mom was liquided off about it.

all this ram talk keeps reminding me to finish the firmware for the new tv remote. i found an extra attiny2313, and decided to use it instead of the mega328p. it has 128 bytes of ram. thats bytes with a b. the sad news is most of the code is in interrupt service routines, which require global variables. still according to the compiler ive only used 38 of them so far. yes, i know i can buy a universal remote for less than $10. but id rather have something where i can reprint the case when mom gets frustrated and throws it at the wall.
