  1. nanotech waveguides perhaps? probibly only would work on xrays, gamma rays have too small wavelength to manipulate with physical structures.
  2. keep in mind that electric fields are many orders of magnitude stronger than gravity. also keep in mind that an electron engine is going to have a very low acceleration. now it is possible to use an accelerator to put a lot of energy into electrons to increase their relativistic mass. im not sure how easy it would be for a ship with a strong positive charge to slow its exhaust back down. id need a particle physicist to figure that out.
  3. last flight sim i bought i believe was lomac, i played it for 3 days and got bored. im almost 40 so many of the games i have fond memories of nobody has ever heard of it seems.
  4. it was interesting feature that you could import scenery between the products.
  5. there were 3 of them. each one launched shortly after an edition of fs. cfs3 was the last, came out with fsX iirc. cfs2 was my favorite. they are also scenery compatible in case you ever wanted to have a ww2 dogfight in a modern city.
  6. if you start firing electrons out the tail pipe, your ship will develop a positive charge, and the electrons will come back. so you need to also fire something positive to neutralize them. you could fire protons, but then you have an ion drive. positrons might also work but now you are in antimatter drive territory.
  7. i haven't done flight sims in years. when i did i preferred combat sims. it would be cool if ms did cfs2020 as a follow up.
  8. ok thanks for the clarification. i was mostly noting that most ion drives need something to neutralize the plasma otherwise it comes back.
  9. ion drives actually have to have electron guns firing into the thrust plume to keep the ions from turning around and coming back. the positive ions will usually have an attraction to the only negatively charged thing in the area, the ship itself. this counters any thrust created. so the electron guns, spray out enough electrons so the ions can be neutralized and carry on. if you used electrons only as your thrust, your ship would eventually develop a strong positive charge and draw them back. if somhow you prevented this i dont think you would get any more than what you could get out of a photon drive (300MW/newton).
  10. i like the first 10 minutes, after that just go watch pocahontas, its the same movie.
  11. had this song stuck in my head all week just to realize it was the beatles.
  12. it doesn't really matter for me as i mostly play on old anarchy servers. last time i played a new version was when the nether update launched, and only for a day. mostly concerned because i really dont want an ms account. its also cute when they list all the disadvantages of the change, and call them advantages.
  13. that is because most people, especially americans, dont seem to know how to cook vegetables. where as most people dump things into a pan and boil them. take the same veggies, cut em a bit different and throw em into a stir fry and things get good. better if you go out and dart a squirrel and throw that in there too. squirrel is underrated. anything to screw with my muscle memory. giant bloodsucking helicopters!
  14. i do not believe the cat would call you the alpha in that situation. not an offence or anything its just cats have huge egos. i doubt it was freaking out. i figure its a lot like what happens when grown men go to a sporting event. they take off their shirts, paint their faces and wear stupid hats all while behaving maniacally while watching what amounts to people moving a ball around. thats what the cat was doing. go birds!
  15. when i was a kid we had a cat that just killed everything it saw. mom didnt believe in getting the cats fixed back then and we would always have litters of kittens. its amazing watching a super predator raise cute little floofy kittens and take really good care of them. its easy to tell that cats have feels.
  16. one of my cats brought in a bird once. he didn't bother killing it or even breaking anything. so we just let it go. we didnt need any more pets. this cat supposedly shared a pet carrier with a hamster when we moved here, and the hamster lived to eventually die of old age.
  17. meta has always been a troll's prefix.
  18. no other uranus fans, i am disapoint. i guess no one wants to turn the forum on its side to discuss its awkwardness.
  19. i had a russian friend in high school. needless to say i never got anywhere playing chess. but at least i learned about vodka.
  20. its not sure whether it wants to transition into a planet or get captured by a gas giant and become a moon.
  21. quasi-planets seems a bit less ambiguous. it both indicates that its not quite a planet while acknowledging that it is at least related in form if not in definition.
  22. other than the ocasional dead house fly and sometimes a dragon fly, my cats are ineffectual hunters. it probably has something to do with the fact that all the birds around these parts are huge. one of my cats was having a conversation with a raven the other day. the small one. both animals were about the same size. so it makes sense that they would negotiate terms. kitty would meow, raven would caw. that exchange went on for a good 10 minutes. im not sure what kind of arrangement they came to, probably planning on reaping the local human souls or something and how to split the spoils.
