    Funnily, one of the first mission concepts I came up with also involved atmospheric dipping but on Jool instead. No abort to surface option on that.

    That's because the thrust is so low that the game consideres you not accelerating at all, in fact you are, but it's so slow it dosen't pick it up.

    Unfortunately it seems the answeris yes, a smaller unit would be nice, but the drawbacks would be being slower than a turtle, even the large unit isin't exactly fast.
