  1. And also, they like to treat any refund as "taxable income" the next year, so any refunds get taxed twice. Better to not have a refund. Best, -Slashy
  2. Thinking about it further... I would never use a spreadsheet and abacus to do taxes, since taxes don't obey any known mathematical laws. /badum-tiss /try the veal
  3. haha no... I used H&R Block software. Not particularly user- friendly, but it got the job done. Best, -Slashy
  4. Just Jim, To be clear, I'm talking about what the audience thinks, not the critics. The two are often at odds, and I almost always find myself in agreement with the audience. Best, -Slashy
  5. Yup. Did mine last night, but I was intentionally procrastinating. Best, -Slashy
  6. Bring the CoL closer to the CoM. The SPH doesn't show your pressure center; where the drag acts relative to CoM. If you have the CoM and CoL in the back, the light, draggy nose makes it want to fly backwards at high speeds. As for how to land it... You will have some trial and error while you get the hang of it. You find a reentry burn landmark and Pe that will put you long of the airfield into the ocean. Then you use steep banking turns to soak up the excess energy. You will have to find landmarks to judge your speed and distance so you know whether you're fast or slow. You want to maintain not more than 5° AoA on your final approach to the runway so you don't stall it, which may require a fairly steep glideslope. Aim for the leading edge of the runway, then flare when you hit 100m. HTHs, -Slashy
  7. I think we should have a probe core capable of detecting biomes earlier in the career. As it stands now, the first probe cores to offer biome scanning are the RoveMate and Okto-2; level six tech. Perhaps give biome scanning ability to the Hecs, but no anomaly detection? Best, -Slashy
  8. I agree with the others. I usually achieve Ap when I'm still around 45km, so there's no point in jettisoning the fairing. I usually wait to do that until just prior to the circ burn. Best, -Slashy
  9. Made a stock replica of the Rutan Voyager. It can easily circumnavigate Kerbin on a single Juno. Here's the craft file if anyone wants it. http://wikisend.com/download/963174/Voyager.craft Best, -Slashy
  10. Klapaucius, Sorry, no. There are no oxidizer- only tanks in stock KSP. If you modify a tank to hold oxidizer only (you can do that), it will no longer be stock. Best, -Slashy ^ Also... you are aware that jets work on Laythe, right? If all you're doing is flying around, you don't need oxidizer. Best, -Slashy
  11. I actually launch into Minmus' orbital plane. Zoom out until I can see Minmus' orbit line, rotate my view around Kerbin until the AN and DN overlap, then wait for KSC to arrive under that spot. I aim a little north or south of due east, depending on which way Minmus' orbit is leaning. Best, -Slashy
  12. It'd take 392 m/sec DV to transition from a 100 km retrograde orbit to a 10 km prograde orbit. 158 m/sec to raise apoapsis to 2.4Mm 133 m/sec to reverse direction and raise periapsis to 10 km 201 m/sec to circularize at 10 km. HTHs, -Slashy
  13. Only inasfar as it happens to be the same SRB... sorta. The fault in the design of the SRB itself was corrected and it hasn't failed since. Also, the only reason a burn- through cost the LOCV was because of the unique design of the launch vehicle, which is no longer in service. That's where any pertinence to this subject ends. I'd just like to avoid a pedantic discussion of the minutae of Challenger further derailing this discussion. What went wrong there has no bearing on the serviceability of SRBs in manned spaceflight going forward. If people want to rehash that subject, there's a thread for it. All I'm sayin' -Slashy
  14. I don't recall any reduction of the LV-N's Isp although the mass went up from 2.25t to 3t in KSP 1.0. It also had some major overheating issues that were cleared up quickly. I rarely use the LV-N myself in career, mainly due to the cost. Best, -Slashy
  15. All, I'm afraid this whole discussion about the Challenger is wandering off the topic of this thread. Yes, SRBs were involved in the accident, but that was a very special case which clearly does not apply to all designs... especially not any current or planned designs. Surely arguing about the details and precise timeline of that tragedy isn't pertinent here? Best, -Slashy
  16. (Shuttle stuff) All fair points, but all problems inherent to the shuttle's unique design rather than any flaw in SRBs themselves. Not advocating the use of srbs for manned flight or arguing against it. Just correcting an incorrect assertion Best, -Slashy
  17. Sure. The problem with the shuttle is that you can't arrange the ports so the vents don't impinge something delicate and/ or flammable. Not a problem with SLS. Not saying that they should or will use this system, just correcting the common misconception that solids can't be shut off. Best, -Slashy
  18. sevenperforce, SRBs can be shut down instantly. https://charlesvono.com/minuteman-thrust-termination/ Best, -Slashy
  19. TCIS, Momentarily time warp. It'll stop the spinning. Best, -Slashy
  20. I don't doubt that myself. I'm sure the MH expansion was involved. My only point is that assigning blame and complaining is a favorite pasttime of some members of this forum, but all I'm looking for is the fix to the problem. I don't think the devs have the ability to fix this because the faulty code isn't under their control. Short of reverting to a pre- buggy version of KSP (which I and klgraham have already done), all I think we can do is wait until Unity patches their physics engine and find our own workarounds in the meantime. Best, -Slashy It seems to me that since you've already done what you recommend they do (reverting to an earlier release), you've solved your problem Of course... had they done that, you'd be complaining about the lack of updates.
  21. Let's not start with the "blame Unity" excuses again. Squad made the choice to update the engine. Squad choose to release a version with bugs easily spotted after playing for 5 minutes. This has nothing to do with Unity. Yeah, because it's *totally* reasonable to blame the people who have nothing to do with the faulty code. *roll eyes* What would you have had them do, cancel the update because unity messed up the suspension?
  22. I think this is due to the new version of Unity, not the folks at Squad. Or "TakeTwo", whatever... We intrepid kerbonauts must take it upon ourselves to work around this for now. Best, -Slashy
  23. bewing, Surprisingly, this is not the case. The gate altitude to Duna is almost 8 Mm, so it's cheaper for him to burn direct from 300k than it is to lower his Pe. I do it from low Munar orbit using a Poodle. Best, -Slashy
  24. I really want to like this movie.... but I'm suspicious after the "Last Jedi" train wreck. I won't be watching it on opening weekend, no matter how good the trailer looks. I'll wait until the audience ratings come in on RT and then decide. Best, -Slashy
  25. I like the RAPIER the way it is. It's poor stats reflect the reality that combining a jet turbine and a rocket into a single engine yields a result that isn't very good at either job. Despite it's shortcomings, it's still the best engine out there for it's intended purpose; SSTO space planes. JMHO, -Slashy
