It's hard to define; Some days 0, other days it's running all day... but over all, definitely more than 11hrs a week, easy. Limiting factors?... M'Lady..... of which I have zero complaint!

Being I bought this laptop just for KSP, that was one of the first things I noticed early on playing the game... its throttling performance to favor other things. If you go into the Advanced Power Settings, you can bypass all that crap. Also, I have my laptop sitting on a cooling pad which makes a world of difference. Opening it up and blowing out the dust-bunnies every now and then also helps.

Not for nothing, but my landline house phone has been hanging there on the wall fully functional for the last 40+ years. My cellphone is another question; Motorola Moto... unlimited everything, although I just talk and send text on it. It's not a 'smartphone', I've turned it into a total idiot.

totm march 2020 So what song is stuck in your head today?

And that ^, kids, is why you don't do drugs. -
This reminds me a lot of Risk, another board game. I'll suppose, date-wise, that Risk was a variant which grew from Diplomacy... maybe even likewise D-Day. My cousin and I were big fans of the D-Day game back in the day. Our gameplay could run days, or even weeks.

The only time I've ever had that happen was when I left SAS on... which is a bad move on a station to start with. Other than that, maybe excessive clipped parts and/or certain mods might be the culprit. Otherwise, I say 'no' to that theory... because I have several huge stations that have been sitting in their orbits for years, seeing regular focus/activity, and none of them have exploded on me yet. This is true; KAC does just that.

Any veteran tips for the docking inept?
LordFerret replied to djr5899's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I'm noticing a lot of people are suggesting having both ships line up with each other; That's good when you're docking two ships together. When you're docking to a big space station however, orienting a docking port on the station to an approaching craft isn't wise... it can end catastrophically for the station (unless you've actually designed this ability into the station when you built it). The reason for that is, while the individual modules docked to the space station might be RCS balanced by design, once it is all put together as a station, it's likely not to have any measure of balance any more at all. Turning on SAS for example, could send the space station off on a dance of RUD... as many new KSP players are finding out in building their first stations (there are many threads in here about that lately). Similarly, attempting to rotate a big station about via RCS can put the thing into a wobble that could take hours to settle out... or require a jump into time-warp to cancel the movement... or even cause it to break apart if some sections are 'weaker' in connection than others. I'm also noticing a lot of comments about COM shifting as fuel is used up. I thought that issue in general was addressed and solved in the v1.0.0 release, with balanced fuel use/drain. That being the case, the shift in COM should be negligible. Still, it would be wise while you're building your craft to check the COM position with fuel tanks full vs empty. -
Any veteran tips for the docking inept?

I know what usually works for me, so maybe it will help you also... mind you however, I'm playing v1.2.2 ..... Building; I try to keep the SAS/ASAS (reaction wheels) unit near the center of mass of my ship. Doing this, my ship building is done in stages, because as you build up the ship the center of mass will change... but in the end, I want my final 'stage' to be balanced, because that's the one I'll be driving and docking. Along with the SAS/ASAS unit, I also work the RCS blocks similarly with 4x symmetry fore and aft of the center of mass. Reaction wheels & movement; That's all going to depend on your build, it's size and mass, and the power and placement of the SAS/ASAS unit(s). If you have a really big craft, I don't think you'll want to be swinging it around 'fast'... leave yourself time and distance for such maneuvers. The Rockomax Hubmax; As Vanamonde explained above. Mods that dock for you; I don't use them... never have, never will. Do feel free to try what's out there however - whatever works for you and makes your game fun. Camera; Again, as Vanamonde suggested, and others. I myself use the Hullcam VDS Continued mod, I love its docking camera (and nightvision camera). For me, along with the NavBall for reference, docking is just like driving / piloting the vessel while looking through the viewport of the docking port... my docking is very controlled, at ease, and a breeze. As for getting into positon; Sounds like you know how to make an intercept no problem. Just make sure that at the end of your intercept burn, you've nulled out your velocity relative to your target before attempting to fly over to it. And when you do fly over to it, take it easy... you don't want to get right on top of it and suddenly need a full throttle burn to stop lest crashing into it - and even if you don't crash into it, your exhaust plume could actually cause the target to drift if you're too close. When you initially select your target, it's the ship/station in general (like its center of mass, or its command module), whatever, it's not your intended goal in the end. So, when you're within 150m of the target, you should be able to select your destination docking port... right-click on it and 'set as target'. Also, you'll want to right-click on the docking port of the vessel you're driving which you intend to dock with... select 'control from here'. Now, however it is you end up choosing to pilot your vessel in, all lined up proper on approach... my advice is to come in slowly. When you're moving a lot of mass around, there are consequences should you collide (dock too hard). I myself, when I'm about 10m ~ 20m out, I insure my forward velocity is reduced to about 0.5m/s. As I close in, when I'm pretty much right on top of the docking collar, about 2m out, I have forward velocity reduced to 0.1m/s... at this point, about 1m apart, the magnetics of the docking ports will grab hold of each other and pull gently in together. If you're viewing through the docking port (using the Hullcam VDS docking camera), you'll see the docking collar light up when the magnetics kick in; At this point, immediately turn SAS/ASAS off and RCS off... and for any other method you're using, make sure they're off before contact is made. With the magnetics working, even if you're not spot-on in alignment, the two docking ports will bump uglies until both vessels settle in and connect... it might take a few moments or so, but they will. Good luck! -
Faculty? Or students as well? Are they hurting for funding or something?
-
You might think that, but it's definitely not the case. Considering all past similar episodes in Hawaii, the rebuilding was accomplished by individual home owners and the local economy, I see no change - although these days there are some who think the Gov is coming to their rescue. They aren't. Keep watching. =P https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/17/it-will-be-months-before-lava-from-hawaii-volcano-can-be-removed-from-neighborhoods.html

The lesson will not be learned until someone in government comes along and says there will be no taxpayer funding for your rebuilding... and actually sees to it that it's so.

??? What were v0.23.5, v0.24.2, and v0.25.0 then? Alphas? I could swear my first download (the demo I grabbed just before the v0.23.5 purchase) was listed as a free trial beta, and my first purchase (and all those after and up to v0.90.0) being listed as beta as well. But, as you say, official is official. Doesn't change my opinion any on the core not being a polished product.
-
I started playing with v0.23.5, and it seems nearly every update since has been a save-breaker to some degree or another. Prior to the release of v1.0.0 I can understand and accept that fact, the game was in 'beta'. But it's not in beta anymore, and after having restarted my game five (5) times already so far, I got sick of it and said enough... so that's why I'm still at v1.2.2 With all due respect to the Devs; If you ask me, the game is still in beta, its core is not a polished product.

William Lawes, late Romantic / early Baroque. -
Downloaded v1.4.3 just this morning. After reading all of this however, I think I'll just soldier on with v1.2.2 ... after all, 90+ flights in progress at this point.

Wait... who's signing off? Sgt Doomball or Sgt Cannonball? I'm confused.

You can go into your Windows Updates settings via the Control Panel and tell it to forget that update. You'll not see it again. To do this, click on the 'Select updates to install' option... find the update in question in the list... right-click on it and select 'Hide'. Done. Well, they could clean house too for that matter... right off the map! ...and far more abundant. Get this guy's goofy-lookin face offa my screen... would ya?!? Science! can help this...

Yes, but I have problems reaching and reading measurements from certain areas of my mid-back.

Well one thing is for sure, the guys in that video are idiots. The issue isn't cow farts, it's cow burps... wrong end... that's where the methane emanates from. And forget CO2 and methane, water vapor is far far far far far greater an issue in capturing and holding heat for this 'warming' charade. Lord, help me, please. ...and solar panels. Ummm... tornadoes. Not a good mix.

I'm running v1.2.2; I've currently got two stations. At the moment; One station is 472 parts at around 450 tons with everything that's docked to it. The other station is 476 parts at around 284 tons. I leave (RCS and) SAS off on both them - all the time. When an inbound ship is about to dock, all lined up and drifting in, the moment the docking collar lights up (magnetics kicking in) I turn RCS and SAS off on the inbound ship just before contact. When the two (station and ship) come together, there's no shimmy or shake, no RUD. Try it.

Antonio Soler (aka Antonio Francisco Javier José Soler Ramos) Late Baroque. Here are a few marvelous pieces, short and sweet... Sonata in F# (F sharp), by Alicia de Larrocha. This interpretation is simply brilliant! Sonata in E minor, guitar duo arrangement, nice performance. (looks just like my old Giannini) Fandango in D minor, Andreas Staier on the harpsichord... pretty awesome piece. Enjoy! -
Ummm... ask Hawaii about that. Forget the tea!

I can totally relate. Sitting here reading through threads, my coffee always surprises me on my next sip - cold.
