  1. I heard this morning, in the car. I was surprised to hear it was suicide; If anything, I'd have thought he'd drink himself to death. Never read any of his books, but I did enjoy his tv program. He did an episode filmed in the Republic of Georgia, and I laughed when he learned of Chacha... I grinned knowingly when he learned where Georgian wine and cuisine were at. M'Lady watched the episode with me, laughing and confirming everything, and pretty much knew every single place he went to as well. Bourdain was only a year younger than me. RIP Mr. Bourdain
  2. That's interesting... that Wiki link (I can't read it, don't know the language), when I switch the page to English, an entirely different fish comes up - although I think it's still a type of Tilapia. I don't know if that's the 'good eating' Tilapia. Apparently there are so many variants of the species, half of which I'd never heard of before. In looking at the picture in your link, the first thing that came to my mind was that it looked like a common 'Sunny' (two different types, 1, 2) or Rock Bass that we have around here... that's just at first glance though. Definitely not the same fish. Sunnys, Perch, and Bass are all real good eats though. Many a time my buddy and I have lazed about in a boat on a lake with a grill on the stern... Bass, Perch, etc, right out of the water, gutted, and straight onto the grill. Can you say tasty?
  3. I'm wondering about the landing legs on the ship... what's up with that???
  4. Awesome dinner with M'Lady, bottle of Mukuzani (2014) to wash it down, watching the sunset and birds, listening to this (and other fine selections)... Bach CPE, Sonata in G Minor
  5. I forget if it's Alabama or Georgia (US states), but one of them is host to the (alleged) largest Tilapia farm in the world(?). The farm is actually a Trout hatchery; Trout are given high quality feed, and the Tilapia are there to eat up the Trout poop. As for myself, I'm about to throw a big 2-1/2 inch thick slab of cow on the grill... which will be served up red and runny and still twitchin. Add to that fresh Jersey corn and a baked potato... and it's M'Lady's turn to pick out the wine. Bon Appétit!
  6. Humm... I wonder. Google's AI NASnet source code is stored on GitHub. Do you think they'll move it elsewhere?
  7. ** Unless you've some inside scoop on that specific demographic, I'd say that's a bit unfair to state. There are plenty of examples out there that show far different performance. ** I don't know about that. I use Skype, have been since it came to be. When Microsoft grabbed it, it was pretty much a matured fully developed and sound running application... still is in my opinion, I find its video connection quality much better than Viber. The only thing I see Microsoft having done to it is further develop its advertising model... which, like Facebook, was pretty much as far as one could take it when it went public. Now I know there are plenty of other *new* apps out there that many of you I'm sure will tout to be better than Skype & Viber, but I've not tried them (yet); So if you're going to bring them up, please define why they're better (specifically so, for me). I've not checked today, but I'm getting the impression there is still a mass exodus going on over at GitHub. A quick look, as I kind of expected, has statements by many about how the competition is gaining from this, Microsoft's buy-out creating opportunity. https://www.itnews.com.au/news/github-rivals-see-code-influx-after-microsoft-buyout-492860
  8. Oh!... the new flame broiled burgers! That's a sure sign you need a better class of friends! Today I went for a hearing test. The guy said to push the button every time I heard a tone in my ears. I sat there pushing it constantly. He thought I was jerking him around... I reminded him, I have tinnitus. We tried a different test after that.
  9. ...or annoyed, inflamed, misconstrued, etc..... and let's not forget - derailed the thread topic. I should get an award for that last one.
  10. I've been away all day, but coming in just now it seems to be working fine. Thank you!
  11. Yes, apparently it wasn't a fix for me either. Sorry about that. It worked when I came in and made the post, but coming back in now - same deal - no go. Now we wait and hope that ManeTI gets a response.
  12. More fallout... https://www.cnbc.com/2018/06/05/github-interest-from-google-and-others-revenue-about-300-million.html http://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-github-developers-atlassian-gitlab-2018-6
  13. Hey... that was on topic... we're all inclusive here... girls get rep too. -1 for you buddy.
  14. I did a search on the Invision forums software error code given, and although the article was old (2015) it attributed the problem to a local (client-side) browser cache issue. So... I cleared the cache, and it appears to have solved the problem. I use Firefox; History \ Clear Recent History... \ Time range to clear: = 'Everything' \ Expand Details and select "Cache" only ..... hit "Clear Now". Done. @klesh @YNM @roarke @Dman979 @Vanamonde
  15. When you (essentially) control the press, you don't have to worry about negative press. Nothing that I've seen about Microsoft has changed at all since its inception... and I've been around a long time, since before there was a Microsoft. This is true, and I agree with your view here. The fact that Microsoft is basically using this as a write-off, only expecting real earnings from the venture starting in 2020+, kind of smells to me like the move could be an effort to uproot competitors - force them to waste time and capital on a move elsewhere for protection. As for undermining GitHub's business model, Microsoft has its own high-end enterprise element which could easily absorb any ripples. Color me the same. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see, in the future, that where ever it is people are retreating to in leaving GitHub will become the next acquisition target. Fighting for market share with Apple is one thing; Having to do so with Linux and its Open Source community in the mix mucking everything up as well - is another. So eliminate the lesser of the two so that you may put all focus on the final obstacle... which I think by the way, is shooting itself in the foot these days.
  16. LOL... actually I'm quite the pessimist!... or so I've always been told. Back in the day, being such was what allowed me to excel in my job. I don't believe we going to survive much of anything, or at least the majority of the world population that is. I believe we're headed back into another dark age. Colonizing the Moon or Mars or anywhere isn't going to help 'us' any, because we can't survive each other together as it is.
  17. This I have to disagree with. Been there. Been a part of it. Done that... on the order of hundreds of thousands... entire systems, where composition of subsystems totals well into millions. This I think is the problem. With games, (and nearly all Microsoft products), releasing buggy untested software is a given and viewed as acceptable. Out there in the real world however, industrial systems, medical systems, military systems, testing is on the order of months - even years... especially when lives are at stake and billions in investment. I think another problem 'today' is the use of black-box utilities... Unity for example. I'm willing to bet 98% of those using Unity have absolutely no clue as to what goes on inside the black-box they're calling; They just pass and tweak parameters until they get the desired effect... which is fine until someone breaks it. Plenty of other examples to go around in this respect, but you get my point.
  18. I'll just drop this here and let one of you moderators decide where it best belongs. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/06/microsoft-snaps-up-github-for-7-5-billion/ As the title says, Microsoft has bought GitHub. " The all-stock deal is expected to close by the end of the year, subject to regulatory approval in the US and EU. " The end of the year has nothing to do with the flurry of activity on GitHub at this moment however; The news of this deal does not bode well with developers, and I can understand why. There's a lot of negative hype tagged to this, and I believe it's totally warranted especially given Microsoft's history. ZDNet also has an interesting article on this; https://www.zdnet.com/article/what-microsoft-buying-github-means-to-open-source-software-development/ Make no mistake, Microsoft is all about making money. GitHub on the other hand, I don't think so as much... their being an Open Source environment should answer that question, at least up until now. https://seekingalpha.com/article/4179322-github-deal-fits-new-microsoft I'm sure Devs who use GitHub will have plenty to say on this. I'd be interested in hearing.
  19. Wait a minute... that's sexist... there's dudettes involved here too.
  20. Yes. Edit: You can control what is ignored.
  21. Thanks. Just had another go around with it, 10+ attempts. I sent a message via the 'Contact Us' button, with the error.
  22. For the past 2 or 3 days now, I've been getting the following when trying to log in... It takes two or more reloads of the page and attempts to log in before it accepts. I've also notice other odd behavior, such as tagging someone's name in a post (using the '@name' convention), where after the name gets selected from the popup list I can't type anything else on the keyboard - no more input is accepted. Wonky forums.
