  1. As @TheSaint mentions above. It's called wooden crane mounted "block and tackle". It could be powered by manpower or horse / mule. A quick read on it can be found on Wikipedia; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statue_of_Liberty More detailed facts and history can be found here; https://libertyellisfoundation.org/statue-history
  2. Right off the bat, here's the problem with this thread... none of you knows how the President thinks. I have no clue how he thinks, nor of how you think - any of you. I only know how I think. "Because we're doing a tremendous amount of work in space, maybe we need a new force," he said. "We'll call it the space force." - from your linked article. There's the answer at face value right there; Protecting the investment. "This [Air Force] budget accelerates our efforts to deter, defend and protect our ability to operate and win in space," And on that note, "The situation we are in as a nation, the vulnerabilities we have to China and Russia, I'd like for the American public to know more, [but] I can't because I don't want to go to jail for leaking classified info. But we're in a really bad situation," From the git-go this is a political discussion, and I'm very surprised the mods are permitting it.
  3. I think it was the Java updater which did that.
  4. You're confusing this 'trance state' with 'still asleep'... now shut up and leave me alone while I eat, I'm not awake yet! MORE COFFEE!!
  5. Watching TTWO (ticker), as far as Squad and KSP is concerned, the hurt is already on. I've mentioned this before, it began back in February ... the inside trades spoke volumes as well. The MH DLC didn't sell as hoped. Other game issues and negative reviews have impacted sales. Additional bankings that TTWO were looking forward to haven't exactly panned out just yet. You need to realize the size of the beast KSP is now chained to, and the fact it is of very little consequence compared to other ventures they publish. They didn't make Q4 goals, and overall revenues are down, although Smarts are looking with optimism at other key games making a hit... but KSP isn't among them. https://seekingalpha.com/news/3365636-videogame-sales-2nd-month-hardware-driving Good to hear that Red Shell has been removed.
  6. An amazing man with an amazing life story, a testament of perseverance and character; Charles Krauthammer has died. RIP Charles, you will be missed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Krauthammer
  7. Interestingly enough, the airline rankings for 2018 don't list any US domestic carriers. Most of the top are in countries with newfound wealth (oil) and new airline startups... new airline, new terminals, new aircraft, new new new... so naturally they'll get ranked top. For domestic flights, only because of the places I travel, I fly Southwest. They've had one of the top domestic safety and performance records, for the most part. For 2018, according to 'The Points Guy', Southwest appears to sit at #2. https://thepointsguy.com/guide/best-and-worst-airlines-2018/
  8. This. Absolutely. There's time enough in a day to breeze over news... or the market. I read to return to reality, because these days life is nuts. And tastes about the same. Yuck!!!
  9. You will find, as others have found who have been playing KSP for years (myself included), that it is best to leave SAS OFF on space stations... which is why we're telling you this. There really isn't any great need or requirement (that I know of) that a space station be reoriented, so perhaps that should be looked at as more of a personal play preference. Typically, the docking vessel is far smaller than a completed station and can easily fly about it and orient for docking... I do it all the time. Most of my stations are built of modules which have no SAS units incorporated into them at all, or if they do they're turned off once docked (as in disabled, so no 'accidents'). And the mono-propellant my stations carry in abundance is only for use with tugs and replenishment of visiting vessels. Being I dock visiting vessels at 0.1m/s, there's no resulting change in the station's orbit. And proper planning / assembly of solar panel modules insures power generation without regard to station orientation. I think if you check out the stations built by others, you'll see how most approach this build aspect. There's also several (if not many) posts by people seeking help with their exploding stations; The result of nearly all being SAS having been left on. Check it out. Good luck.
  10. Because EULA's took all the fun out of it.
  11. Actually, this is true. As I recall, snow came earlier in the season, and it seemed to fall 'deeper'. Then again, I was a kid, and my legs were shorter... so yea, there was 'more' snow. As for uphill both ways... this is literally true too. Where I lived, on top of a ridge, I had to walk a little over a mile to school; That meant down the hill, up a hill, and down a hill into the center of town. The walk back home was up down up. So, yea, I can say that!
  12. I have to say, part of that problem you're having is because these days the schools will close for the least amount of inclement weather... 3 inches of snow on the ground, or even 6, was never grounds for a school closing back in the 60's & 70's. I remember that on such snowy days, extra time would be allowed for kids and teachers to get to school... which pretty much meant the skipping of 'Homeroom' and going straight to 1st class.
  13. And you should have pointed out to her that she's one of those useless, contributes nothing to mankind, Rent Seekers. And likely not knowing what the hell that meant, it probably would have shut her right up for a while until she looked it up.
  14. IF and WHEN this ever gets sorted out and fixed (notice I'm not holding my breath), @SayNoToRedShell can go here and change it...
  15. I'm to understand that in KSP v2.0 they'll begin human clinical trials.
  16. Have a safe, sane, fun summer y'all.
  17. This, made my day. Thank you. I am sharing this with the educators in my family. Umm..... are you trying to tell us something, without telling us something?!?
  18. In the news today: Apparently retired Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield feels that neither Space-X nor NASA nor Blue Origin spacecraft will ever make it to Mars, as things stand today. Why? 'Because the safety risks are too great.' I think he might be right; So far, all we've seen is a publicity stunt... save probes and rovers. Note: The video(s) with both of these articles is either blocked or removed or suppressed or ... you get (don't get) the picture. This Retired Astronaut Says SpaceX and NASA Rockets 'Will Never Go to Mars' Retired Astronaut Believes That NASA, SpaceX And Blue Origin Rockets Could Not Transport Humans To Mars
  19. Still running v1.2.2; Too deep into the save, with over 90 flights in progress. I'll wait a while.
  20. That would be neat, although I'm not sure the game's physics and parts behavior would permit it. I'm not a rocket scientist though, nor Unity expert, so maybe someone here better qualified would know the answer to that. That's a spiffy write-up. But, wait a minute..... Cheat Menu?!?!?? How did KSP caveman gain access to this?!?!?? Did he have a little help, maybe?
  21. If we gave distances in Kellicams, would you have balked at that as well? For future reference: 1 mile = 1.60934 kilometers In the OP's case, he's talking about an 185074.56km orbit, in-between Mun and Minmus. I have three huge ships which I've assembled in a similar orbit, two of which are now on their way to Jool, and the third on its way to Eeloo. All three being Ion powered, using such an orbit as a start point made a lot of sense to me, and it worked out quite well.
  22. How did you get her to carry all that stuff for you?!?
  23. When she tells you "I'm going to clean your car windows, honey." ....... ... Thanks, dear. Thanks.
