  1. This is because you have set a target to something, probably another ship. If you click on the ship you think it might be you can use the "unset target" option. Like slimecrusher said, the mod is most likely RemoteTech2. I have been playing kerbal for just over a week too, and was confident enough to install it, and I'm having a great time and challenge. But if you're still not comfortable with the game then rather don't use it. If you are you could always give it a go.
  2. I have tried looking for this too, unfortunately I think planet factory is the basis "code" perhaps (I'm not really versed in such things) that allows other modders to actually add extra planets. Perhaps you could try getting to grips with the way planet factory CE works, then you could go crazy and start adding any system in any orbit you would prefer? I know it has a GUI where you can do these edits. I cannot help unfortunately but perhaps reading up on it or watching a few videos might help.
  3. Thanks all very insightful....In response to metaphors post, I really don't think that that land-sail rover "Zephyr" is ever going to be sent? I just don't see the practicality of a wind driven sail, the chances of it being rendered useless due to being tipped over or getting stuck in a ditch just make it a kind of pointless design. Although in terms of taking advantage of the fact that less electronic equipment is needed this is a plus point, I don't think it outweighs the risk.
  4. See I did not know about this thank you. Yes its a lot of money to spend on a research window of one hour. And the pressure is just unimaginable, I cant bring myself to think how it would feel to be out in the open while still feeling an equivalent to 1000m under the ocean of pressure. I will keep an eye out for BepiColumbo. They say zephyr will be planned to stay overnight, but I have a feeling that is a bit optimistic. That is if the mission ever gets off the ground.
  5. Had to remove because my ears would shatter when breaking the sound barrier, although this would be real to an extent, it was just too loud. I Like the sounds though just too loud, I didn't see a setting for volume in the .cfg only for interior volume. I also tried messing around with the frequency but that doesn't have much relation to volume anyway.
  6. Ok so the title is a little stupid, and I feel a little stupid for asking this but, basically I have just started growing my interest I had as kid for space exploration, the solar system etc.(got lost somewhere along the way which is very unfortunate) this has mainly been re-ignited through playing kerbal. I am a lot older now and have been so enthralled by my music career it seemed not much else mattered. But now I find myself spending hours browsing sites and forums for interesting information. My knowledge is limited so please don't be too condescending in regards to my question. So, my question boils down to this. Are there any plans on re-visiting Venus? I know it was done a few times a while back with limited technology. Surely though today we could protect against the amount of heat and pressure? Are there any plans in the works that I have missed about a mission to land another rover on the surface. I am captivated by the mystery of this planet (much like a women, "from venus" statement) Not that the other planets don't enthuse me, I love the recent information into Europa, as well as the voyage to Pluto. But Venus is closer to home, yet its so undiscovered. It is the only planet we will ever be able to collect data from (in my lifetime at least), that has such a close proximity to a star. And because of its atmosphere that makes it way more interesting than Mercury. I would love to see a rover take decent photos of the landscape, unfortunately the only one we have is of the floor. This brings me to another mini-question, when are they going to fire the people involved in taking photo's on rover missions hehe. I have browsed over numerous curiosity pictures there are a few good ones but most of them are absolute rubbish. There is no doubt of the resolution capability yet it spends most of its time taking "selfies". I am not interested in seeing the Rover it is there for Mars not for its own self-absorbed persona. Ok I'm joking a little bit, but it just feels there is so much more it could have done in the 2 earth years it was there. The next big step is climbing mount sharp which will be interesting I guess, but slooooooow. Anyway if anyone has some interesting info they have managed to scoop out about Venus exploration please share it with me, I have looked over most of the big sites and popular areas but I'm sure some of you guys know a few places way more interesting. //oh I forgot to add that I am aware of the "zephyr" But I'm more interested in other companies than NASA.
  7. Welcome and yes this game is the ultimate balance of fun and learning. Best thing I have come across in ages
  8. Ok, thanks guys I understand what he was saying now. As you saw I'm not very far into delving into RT2 mechanics and I am yet to send probes further than 200km orbit around kerbin, this is why I havent had to use the comm. devices that you need to aim. I thought the main problem was that the dishes can only focus on one target at a time. I see now the actual aiming is a problem. This is probably why I didn't fully understand.
  9. I must say, I'm trying very hard to understand what you mean. Its obvious you have the capability to lay down a good point, but I just didn't get it hehe. In response to what I did understand....Don't you think its a massive step up from being able to launch probes without a comm. network? And I do agree about the dishes, but thats most likely just the restriction of the game. This is my most recent albeit messy network, Im still relatively new and if theres one thing RT2 has taught me is matching orbital velocities. Have learned quite a bit already through this mod so thank you!
  10. I concur, this statement is absolutely true. I think iv'e mentioned this in another post somewhere, but recently I tried to actually partake in the minecraft forums to get a feel for it, and after 2 days every time I logged on I had the urge to post a thread asking if there was a place I could find some intellectual sub-forums or just somewhere I could get the thought of everyone posting being a whiny little 8 year old out of my head. I would not do this of course, that would be stupid. Reading up on the opinions and views of others in this forum is really a treat. It is one of my favourites. Stick around man, don't let one person ruin your day.
  11. Awesome that its being worked on When they can safely land at anything between 20-30 m/s I will have to have this mod, at the moment its going to make things a bit easy at 50-100. Will keep track of this thread. If you don't mind me suggesting something, perhaps in the VAB/SPH we could have a tweakable option to use different materials? Perhaps the materials with additional strength would have the drawback of carrying extra weight. The strength being related to the amount of m/s the object can withstand. This would allow us to use varying options for specific deployment of different sized vessels and missions. A bit of strategic implementation you could say. They wouldn't really need additional texturing, because those that you have done are indeed awesome. I try to stick to realism as much as possible so I hope I'm not coming across as mean. Just that sort of player.
  12. This looks so cool, is there a way to reduce their effectiveness though? I'm not particularly fond of the speeds they are able to safely land at. Although I'm judging this from your first video, If that is adjustable I will definitely use this in my Duna mission!
  13. I'm really enjoying Final Frontier individual merits and this does not work at all with planet factory. Other then that I have just had issues with stuff like the mun orbiting at 200km above earth, then I would reinstall it and the mun is gone, so are most of the planets. its just weird like that in my case. On a vanilla game it worked fine but as soon as slowly adding mods various issues/crashes would come along after doing something. (not ram related I did check) Haven't been able to pinpoint those problems, I have just come from playing skyrim a while back and I am sick of troubleshooting mods, decided to actually play the game for once. Will keep an eye on this I love any gas giant additions with a lot of moons! For my next playthrough maybe
  14. I agree with Nokola, Anyway, see personally I have been given no reason to dislike you, regarding previous posts etc, until, well....now.
  15. Ah I still do this haha, to get nice controlled height orbits.
  16. Ah man, I just wish planetfactory was more compatible with other mods. Otherwise I would have grabbed this.
  17. Loving this! Took me about 9 satelites to create a connection around the equator at the 100km mark, this is not very good, but at least it will allow me to do better at the 250km mark
  18. How do people test for multi-threaded performance? If I open up resource monitor, I see a pretty equal distribution on both cores and their threads. This is why I ask. I am not tech savvy at all btw.
  19. Thank you, apologies I meant to type Mm. This clarifies everything, yesterday I thought I saw Mn for some reason and could not figure out this distance I booted the game up and saw it is in fact Mm.
  20. Just back to my earlier question that was not really clarified, and to be honest I was a bit confused and thought it was just a typo. Is 50Mn, A. 50 thousand meters(50km), B. 50 million meters? C. 50 thousand kilometers? I have never heard of these "Mn" measurements and I lost the page that explains the parts ranges in meters?
  21. The clear victor of "taking the joke too far". This is becoming annoying now, all these ridiculous "simulators".
  22. Is it intentional that most of the parts show for instance 2.50Mm range? Theres a 50.000Mm part as well and most of them do not display Km readings in the part description, luckily this still translates to 50,000Km in-game I just found it odd.
  23. Wow thank you so much, I would never have known about those. This is why I love this community.
  24. Giving this a try now, will be interesting to have another perspective.
  25. Wonderful mod! Absolutely wonderful, the acclaim it gets around here is completely deserved. I am having a great time with the restrictions it adds to unnmanned missions. I feel there is actually more of a progression now in terms of the technology tree and the missions you are capable of launching. Just thought I would share my love for RT2.
