KSP2 Release Notes

Have you watched any of the interviews with Nate Simpson? All the times he had to force himself from not to talk about what they are working on. I can say he does care about KSP. Plus I've said this before, we are not entitled to progress reports, what they are currently working on, and internal happenings within Intercept studios. Only Private Division and Take Two can demand that.

It's a design choice, nothing more.

The colonies should be physics objects, so you could crash into them and cause damage, and possibly collapse them. If the original teaser trailer is any proof of that. I'm just imagining using an asteroid like a bowling ball and the colony parts flying everywhere when hit. Then, of course, explosions when landing.

Interesting idea. It could be useful for distances up to a few hundred km. After that, it might be faster to fly or hop from location to location.

Will water (/liquid in general) physics be more realistic?
shdwlrd replied to Multivac's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
I don't remember seeing anything mentioned about liquids in general. I do hope that they do address it at some point. -
That article is from June, I would say it's irrelevant. Yes, both Squad and Intercept are looking for people. A lot can happen in 5 months.

No, I don't think that is the case. They are basically recreating KSP1 with more suns, planets, parts, better QoL systems, and more to do. The original timetable was optimistic, the new timetable is more reasonable. I'm sure they don't want to release a mess like when No Man's Sky or Fallout 76 was released.

Finally Peeled that Gold Foil Off the Windows
shdwlrd replied to Nate Simpson's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Yes -
That was only helpful when you were searching for parts with a distinct profile. (OPT) Or if a modder utilized it. For stock, it was useless.

Finally Peeled that Gold Foil Off the Windows

Looks more like a picture from a remote cabin in the high tundra. Just needs some moose walking around. Very impressive work. Thanks for the update. -
Yes, very much so. Ray tracing and HDR make for some real beautiful almost life like scenes. It's amazing that in about 25yrs we have gone from the blocky gloriousness of Doom or Wolfenstein, to the life like versions of the same titles. I remember when dynamic shadows was a new technology. (The basic low-end shadows you see today.) You couldn't use it, it would tank your frame rate and make the game unplayable.

Surfaces with different properties on celestial bodies
shdwlrd replied to The Aziz's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Well... it's still yes. As long as it doesn't turn into rutted tangled mess like some dirt trails. I wonder how simulating a wheel sinking in mud or sand would work. -
Weather in KSP2? Discussion Thread
shdwlrd replied to DerkyJerkyWreaksHavoc's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
No need to apologize. Most general topics about KSP2 have already been posted and discussed. (In some cases, turned into running circle arguments. *Cough* metallic hydrogen *cough*) If there is some new info, or a new vision for a discussed subject, we would love to hear about it, talk about it, debate about it. But generic questions like weather in ksp, I like to point out its been discussed before. -
Weather in KSP2? Discussion Thread
shdwlrd replied to DerkyJerkyWreaksHavoc's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
No... -
I wouldn't worry about it until the system specs for the game is released. There is still about a year for hardware improvement to happen before KSP2 is supposed to release.
-
Reigniting this subject again? Its already have confirmed that there will be several different fuel types in the game. There have been images proving the breaking of liquid fuel into specific types of fuel. (Much to my chagrin. )

Weather in KSP2? Discussion Thread
shdwlrd replied to DerkyJerkyWreaksHavoc's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
I think there are threads for weather already. Basically some people want realistic weather, some people just want visual weather effects, and some don't care either way. -
Surfaces with different properties on celestial bodies
shdwlrd replied to The Aziz's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Different traction values for different surfaces, I like the idea. It would add some environmental challenges outside of gravity and aerodynamics. -
Yes, that is exactly what I'm talking about. Ray tracing has been used in games for forever. It's just expensive to compute. (Any game where you have to shoot something, has dynamic lightning, shadows, reflections, AI visual sight lines, AI visual target following uses ray tracing.) The ray tracing that NVidia keeps talking about has been around forever. It's just that the RT cores are dedicated to ray tracing calculations so the gpu or cpu doesn't have to do it. So software devs can project many more rays for more reasons other than needed functions for game play and basic environmental effects. The question should be "Will KSP2 support NVidia API's for raytracing?" Or "Will KSP2 support any advanced API'S for raytracing?"

A re-purposing of science
shdwlrd replied to mcwaffles2003's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Science should have either an active and/or passive effect if you do it. Let's take ScanSat for example. You take the time to map a planet/moon. You have a height map, a biome map, and a resource locations. That would be an active effect. The passive effect is you now have a map to navigate the surface easily. Now this could be applied to the stock, routine science. You can learn the temperature gradient that can help a colony in some way. You learn the pressure curve for a planet and help your aerodynamics on that planet. You study the gravity of a planet and find a change that you can exploit or have to avoid. Basically make science useful to do. That way if you can't be bothered with it, you can still play the game. But some aspects are easier if you do do the science. -
Probably like the Easter eggs we have now, the ufos and stuff like that. If any there is any life, it will more than likely only plant life.
