Before 1.0 hits, I too, want to say a big thank you to Squad for producing this great game, to the YouTubers who helped me learn how to orbit, go to worlds a far, and bring my imagination to reality, and finally to the forum at large for inspiration, hilarious postings, and developer quality mods. I bought KSP after 0.18 and also just after falling in love with my first course in orbital mechanics and rocket science as a sophomore in Aerospace Engineering. The build-fly-dream playstyle of KSP kept my aerospace dreams alive through the tough courses and late nights in the computer lab with gravity turn rockets, orbital rendezvous, and 3 body programs until now, where I started working with trajectories at a company who names their rockets and spacecraft after birds of prey and mythical flying creatures . Following the hype for every release and looking back at how far this game has come, brings a strong sense of both nostalgia and excitement for 1.0! To the best $23 I have ever spent and only joyful tears!!

Long-term Laythe Mission (pic heavy) - ^_^ With Part 45 ^_^
aeroeng14 replied to Brotoro's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
I've lurked here long enough and I want to congratulate you Brotoro on a fantastic mission report series. I've been following Long-term Laythe since episode 1 right after I bought KSP myself and its served as an inspiration for a bunch of mission ideas and my own personal play style. This series I think is one of the best examples of how KSP can become something more than just a game about rocket science. I also want to say I'm a big fan of the science-y tidbits and references you sneak into all of your episodes and multiple series. None of these go unnoticed by a real-life rocket engineer with an astrophysics minor. Keep up the great work, and I'll always keep reading! -
[1.1.2] Kerbal Inventory System (KIS) 1.2.12
aeroeng14 replied to KospY's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Congrats on release. I'm a big fan of KAS and now KIS too it seems. I've been following the development of KIS for quite some time and now I can't wait to finally try it! -
I used to have the same problem with the wheels collapsing through the ground on craft load. They used to work when I first downloaded 0.90, but somehow I overwrote the working Firespitter dll with an older version when I was updating mods. Don't download the plugin file from the author's page as it isn't updated yet, I instead took one from RoverDude's mods and adjustable landing gear works fine now.

Rover Place - Share Your Rovers and Rover Journeys Here
aeroeng14 replied to CalMacDa's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Here's a rover contract mission I did on Kerbin. Really proud of landing it on the mountainous western continent with only a 'chute. I transversed that slope on the way down with 30+ min of zig-zagging. -
Do you still use the old rotation keys?
aeroeng14 replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I still use the rotation keys because old habits die really hard and I mostly have snap fit on. If I want something just right though, then I'm all over the gizmos. This is mostly for wings, parallel core stages, etc. -
What do you do with satellites etc after contract completion?
aeroeng14 replied to THX1138's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I first name my satellites after the corporations that sent out the contracts at launch, or otherwise I forgot and have 5 'Untitled Satellite Launcher' probes floating around. I also leave them in orbit after the contract to be run by their respective owners and for role-play, eg weather or comm sats. Currently I have the mk1 and mk2 series with different solar panel and antenna configurations. When I unlock cargo bays, I'm planning on capturing the mk1 series with the Stayputnik cores and returning them for retirement (debris removal) ala the Shuttle. New versions will be launched when different solar or probe technologies are unlocked. -
parts [1.12.x] Sounding Rockets! Start small. Dream big!
aeroeng14 replied to RoverDude's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Love, love, the new parts! The buildable science payload and smaller parts are a perfect fit for early tech tree flights. Too bad the payload parts are a little hard to see in the VAB, being 0.375m, for all the modeling work that went into them. As an aerospace engineer and amateur rocketry enthusiast, I also enjoy seeing the small greebling on the new aerospike engine. Really gives it a just-starting-out look and feel. Next I'm going to try and build some blimps and weather balloon packages. Oh the possibilities for air launched, upper atmospheric rockets. Keep up the great work RoverDude. -
parts [1.12.x] Sounding Rockets! Start small. Dream big!
aeroeng14 replied to RoverDude's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Wanted to chime in and give my thanks for this great mod! Just toying around with the different motor classes and fin sizes for 5 minutes has been some of the most fun I've had with this game in recent weeks. Really enjoy the new experiment types and I think you hit the color combinations on the mark! Who knew that trying to prop up a rocket at an angle with a bunch of sticks could be so addicting for an aerospace engineer? Keep up the great work. -
I just downloaded hanger extender and no crashes or observable effects in KSP. I think it should be okay to use with 0.25.

[24.2] Karbonite Ongoing Dev and Discussion
aeroeng14 replied to RoverDude's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Definitely would look forward to the prospecting. Gives a reason for well designed rovers and local exploration, like the rover missions from FinePrint. -
[old thread] Trajectories : atmospheric predictions
aeroeng14 replied to Youen's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Thanks for creating this amazing mod. Trying to guess an aerobrake or landing with FAR/NEAR was something I could never get right, so I kept to stock aerodynamics. Now I don't have to! -
I use RCS thrusters on all of my ships, expect for probe landers. I do take more monopropellant for the large interplanetary motherships for fine-tuning encounters and aerobraking instead of turning the entire ship. Though I only ever use 4 or 8 thrusters placed at the extreme ends of the ship for every size of craft or flying fuel tank.

The 2014 Officially Unofficial Apollo 11 Recreation Thread
aeroeng14 replied to The Jedi Master's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Here's my own attempt at an Apollo 11 flight on the anniversary of the landing. This year I made the entire rocket and flew the entire mission from launch to splashdown. May humans again walk amongst the regolith covered Mare and Highlands in the not-to-distant future.
