Watched 2001: A space odyssey for the first time

It\'s Stanly Kubrick\'s interpretation of \'My God, it\'s full of stars!\' Because, of course, Stanly Kubrick doesn\'t know what stars look like unless there is a spacecraft sitting in front of them. What. Where is this line of thought going? Terminate/ -
Challenge: Asymmetrical rocketry to orbit.

I do. Don\'t remember what it was called, but it looked awesome. -
Welcome to LV-426.
-
I was concerned about my lack of RCS thrusters, and the numerous maneuvers to evade Mun captures was a fuel drain... But I did it. Fairly certain I could get it to Aquila base. Good thing about this is that it doesn\'t need to do hops or anything to get somewhere - just land it near the target, and drive to destination [in 500 yards, turn left.]

My launch vehicle is starting to look promising. LFE spam!

I now have a near-stock version of the Ibis. I call it the Ibis X2. I still need to build a stock launcher.

I just realized we won't be able to go at the speed of light.

I think I saw a TV program where they explained it. There is less antimatter than matter, so the Universe didn\'t annihilate itself. However, quite how having positive energy and negative energy come together to produce a lot of positive energy probably isn\'t how a matter/anti-matter explosion works. -
A Kerbin one could allow you to build much larger spacecraft. You could have larger engines on it than you could by launching from the ground. It\'d be annoying getting it to Minmus from there, but less time consuming than a ground launch, since you\'d have bigger engines to make your intercept faster.

Then again, I suppose MechJeb works as an autopilot. I just don\'t want it doing landings for me. Not that it could, when Ibis Xs land by cushioning the impact with RCS. EDIT: The Ibis X Takeoff. Orbit. It was wheelying like this for a full 40 seconds. Finally getting the bird down. It landed fine. I can modify it to use less mods, but it has to keep its NERVA engines. The original design, as you can see, used stock gimballing engines. It could only get to orbit with those.
-
Ok. But don\'t expect to see one on an Ibis X. Those are no sissyplanes. They are piloted by real Jebs.
-
I don\'t have Mechjeb!
-
I have that mod. Its a bugger to get into synchronous orbit with.
-
I wonder if I could make a stock launcher for the VA Ibis X. That would be a pretty cool thing to have at the polar base... right? Eh. Don\'t add me to the flight list yet though. I don\'t actually know if it can be done.
-
Could one of the pilots have at one point been or still was working for Veto Aerospace? VA was around back then, making Munar spaceplanes and things.
-
Yeah, but that more than even a Kerbal level of willing-suspension-of-disbelief. It would never fly in real life, and whilst a lot of the stuff we build in KSP couldn\'t either, that thing\'s helicopter engines just couldn\'t ge made to get to takeoff speed.

I pronounce it \'Kerble\'
-
My Dad\'s one suffered some common sense failures, and it didn\'t like the cheap Chinese USB keyboard so it kept having \'FATAL KERNAL ERROR\'s.

They used the same X-shaped warning screen as Mother had during scuttle procedure when they had the Prometheus collide with the alien ship. That was something I really appreciated. Something else I noted: ALIEN FRANCHISE MOVIES IN WHICH ANDROIDS GET THEIR HEADS RIPPED OFF Alien - Yes, Science Officer Ash Aliens - Yes, Executive Officer Bishop Alien 3 - Yes, again XO Bishop, from Aliens Alien: Ressurection - Nope Prometheus - Yes, Technician/Flight Assistant David

RedDwarfIV replied to bandit4910's topic in The Lounge
Would that be in a vacuum? -
He may be confusing infinite universe [and its not infinite, because it\'s exapanding (faster than light, admittedly,)] with alternate dimension theory.

Your sure they aren\'t just going at the reverse orbital velocity of the ISS? -
Your Head A Splode inverted.

It was several hours since orbit had been made. Finally, clearence had been given to make a trans-Minmus burn. Of course, that wasn\'t technically what it was, it was a burn to get apogee out to Minmus\'s orbit. It wouldn\'t intercept, not yet. More interesting things would come later. Commander Oscar spoke, shattering the silence that had only occasionally been punctuated by reports from Mission Control or from Munble and Rufam\'s jibes; 'Initiate burn in 15 seconds... 10... 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and ignition.' 'Ignition confirmed.' replied Rufam, who was throttling up the engines. Munble watched the orbital mechanics simulation intently. 'Speed climbing. Attitude good, SAS holding.' The Ibis X class had had troubles with SAS in the past, but only through overly violent initial thrusts. Gradually, the simulation showed the orbit extending outwards, past the Mun, at which point Munble told Rufam to slow down. Rufam put the throttle at 1/8, until Munble confirmed that the apogee was at the correct altitude. The three crew looked at each other for a moment. 'Good so far.' muttered Oscar, who settled into his chair to wait. The waiting was long. Several days after launch now, and the Ibis X 4 was preparing for circularisation thrusts. Not enough to put them in a completely circular orbit, or they would never have the fuel to get back to Kerbin. Rufam was fiddling with the RCS, getting the bearings just right. All was the silence of concentration. This had to be done right. Previous Bluebird missions had to be abandoned because fuel wasn\'t spent carefully enough. Several minutes of concentration later, Rufam announced he had the right bearing, and was ready to fire engines on Mission Control\'s guidance. Munble confirmed that the direction was right. The launch control link woman\'s voice crackled over the radio. 'Deltal GC, Ibis IV, telemetry confirms you are on target. Ok for thrust in 22 seconds.' Oscar spoke: 'Copy that Deltal, Preparing to fire.' Muble started humming. Rufam recognised the tune and whistled to it. Oscar sighed, but let them continue. They were professional enough that this wouldn\'t affect their judgement too much. Besides, it wasn\'t like they had to thrust exactly at apogee. Minmus was, after all, an entire moon, and a little leeway could be given for getting into its sphere of influence. The engines fired, and the simulation displayed their increasing speed and its effect on their orbit which was, as expected, widening.

... RIDLEY SCOTT HAS A JOB FOR YOU! This a serious piece of awesome you\'ve built there. I really liked the film, and I loved the ship, so this for me has to be one of the best mods ever made for KSP. Unfortunate that the source code isn\'t up yet, cause I\'d like to use this, but by heck is this brilliant.

They call me the Terminator. Because of my sunglasses. I\'ll be back.
