Okay, this is worth keeping an eye on.

Absolutely. Just ballparking this off of memory, but the dV expenditure to go from the launch pad at the KSC to a 100x100 km orbit is the same as a mission from the surface of the Mun, to the station in LKO, then back to the mining outpost on the Mun's surface. Going from Minmus on a similar mission is slightly less, even accounting for the inclination change burns. If you have your fuel refinery in orbit around the moon in question, it's a no brainer: it's absolutely cheaper, dV wise, to go from orbit to orbit. Personally, I second the call for adding a battery pack before adding a science lab. You will be amazed just how much power that lab will consume while in darkness. But yes, a lab is always worthwhile, even in LKO, because you can rerun experiments and use the data from those experiments to be turned into science. It does take a lot of time, but for the deepest reaches of the tech tree, that's well worth the time investment.

Indeed. My old troop is scheduled to go next month (?), so I'm sure they're watching carefully.

Hmmm... based on context and my own impressions... I'd estimate in the range of 10-12 cm per hour rainfall. That's a pretty good drenching, and certainly enough to put a damper on anyone's day, and is also well within the reasonable rate from a thunderstorm (albeit only for a short time). I assume you were a gentleman and offered her your coat (or at least a towel) afterwards?

any cool things to do in ksp no mods
MaverickSawyer replied to arkness's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Try making a twice-orbiting rocket... I.E. one you launch to orbit around Kerbin, land on Kerbin, then return to orbit, then land again. However, if you are open to using mods... Kerbal Inventory System and Kerbal Attachment System are two of my favorite mods. Forget an antenna on your station? Fly out a new one and just bolt it on! -
Buildings are replaceable. As long as everyone is uninjured, it'll be fine.

Okay, fair point. Went back to find the following discussion results from about a month and a half ago regarding TweakScale abuse: It appears I remembered the upper limit wrong. My apologies. And, per the OP: I agree with neistridlar in that pushing the engine that large is kinda OP and does break the spirit of the challenge.
-
Indeed. I believe the rule was 50% change, either way. I.E. a 2.5 meter engine could only be adjusted to be between 1.25m (50% of stock) and 3.75m (150% of stock) in diameter.

Just because something is easy for you to fly doesn't mean others will. And no, I haven't flown any of the bigger planes, because the part count is far beyond what my computer can handle. (Stupid 5-year-old laptop...)
-
Yes it does. I plan on camping out alongside the runway and salvaging useable parts from the wreckage of failed landings. What better way to keep costs down (and the environmentalists happy) than by recycling?

Not today, but yesterday... we ran a PT-6A-6 in the test cell at school. Not quite as noisy as I thought it would be, tbh. I think the Allison 250 makes more of a ruckus, and it's maybe a third of the power. Sadly, I was relegated to ground support equipment management, as I had already done an engine run this quarter (GSO-480 on a Beech Twin Bonanza, in case you were curious.) EDIT: 2400 posts!

It's older than me, ergo, old.

@Box of Stardust If you ever want a break from testing poorly designed planes, feel free to give one of MAST's designs a whirl.
-
The revenue stream in question is New Shepard. Not sure what the turnaround costs are on that, but 6*250k per flight isn't too shabby. Besides, the flight rate they've been pulling isn't the one they're aiming for. Look at how SpaceX has ramped up their launch rate over the years.

I think NSEP has a valid point... it's an artist's impression, not a detailed engineering diagram. Never, EVER trust artists to be realistic when it's not needed to be realistic.

Hmmm... Odd bug (? Might be something missing) when starting to build. I select the saucer command pod, and the whole SPH freezes up. Can't select any othe rparts, can't slew the camera around, nothing. I can select the save and open buttons, so long as I don't right click on the command pod. If I do right click, I can't do anything at all. I do have the dependencies installed, so I'm going to start hunting and seeing which mod is causing conflicts.

Now THOSE are familiar covers. I think I still have the upper one, tbh.

Okay, THAT's why I never saw the mention. That's an OLD version!
