  1. Is there any way to manually override this function for the time being? Or is it hard-coded into the .dll?
  2. I'm with wumpus... Omega isn't for crew. It's to provide DoD launch capability.
  3. Hey, I'd ride on a Soyuz tomorrow. After all, we know that the LES works across a pretty wide range of the flight envelope, now don't we.
  4. Anyone care to wager in how long it takes Elon Musk's saviour complex to kick in and accelerate the first flight of the Crew Dragon?
  5. I'm willing to wait patiently for a more official report than just rumors. Gotta admit, though... This'll light a fire under both SpaceX and Boeing.
  6. Huh. Intriguing material with some truly amazing properties... but I'm curious as to how it would handle a more realistic scenario, such as being used to protect a structure from a wildfire. The carbon foam that it creates does appear to be remarkably fragile and easily delaminated, so I suspect that, in a high-wind environment, it wouldn't fare too well. That said, in regards to the nuclear blast resistant question... as the MoD Science Officer said, it's thermal blast resistant. It appears that it would absolutely protect against the thermal pulse... but that's a fairly minor consideration for most of the area destroyed by a nuclear blast. The pressure wave that follows is what does the real damage.
  7. It's not weird... It's reckless. What happens if you have to ground the Super Hornet fleet? Yes, I know that it's supposed to simplify logistics... But gimme a CVW with a mix of Tomcats, Vikings, and Intruders any day.
  8. About that.... Heatblur Simulations would beg to differ.
  9. Been a while since the last time I landed here...
  10. 1. The next release will come when it's ready... No sooner. 2. The way you put your second sentence is quite rude, as that can be read as a demand...
  11. Hmmm... F-4 style cockpit that goes from a circular to a Mk3 style fuselage? There's a noticable lack of love for the ol' Lead Sled.
  12. From what I've read, making wheels and other landing gear for KSP is basically equal parts black magic and migraine-inducing frustration.
  13. Okay, gotta admit to a bit of a facepalm moment... I was making a cargo lander with US II parts, and somehow, I thought that the control wedge was more than just an SAS module... So you can imagine my dismay when I decoupled the lander from the transfer stage and it won't activate and maneuver. That said, an actual probe core unit with reaction wheels would be pretty cool, as it would open up some interesting design avenues. EDIT: Oooh, and possibly a high-gain or relay antenna. That could be cool, too. Also, possible bug report: I was using the KIS modules at quad length, and after reverting from flight to the VAB, they had lost half their inventory... specifically, the lower half. Also, using Ctrl+Z will trigger this. It's basically making the KIS modules useless at any lengths other than double.
  14. Good points... But, that's all farther down the line. I've still not successfully landed a crew on Duna and returned them yet. Baby steps, man. Baby steps.
  15. Okay, got an old one and a new one... Old facepalm: in a past save, several versions ago, I had set up a science station around Minmus. I proceeded to fly a crew out on an Apollo-esque ship, docked, transferred the crew, whole nine yards. No sweat. When it comes time to go back to Kerbin, and I undock, I remembered that I had shut down the service module engine. I dutifully close my throttles... And out of force of habit, I stage once. My service module happily ejects from the crew capsule and sails off into the void, while my crew capsule, still aligned with the docking port it had just undocked from, redocks quite firmly, but manages to not break anything. Cue facepalm. I eventually run a new, compact, service module out to the station on a trans-orbital tug, and gleefully use KIS to strap it onto the stricken crew module and fly the crew home, arriving at Kerbin some 12 days later than originally planned. (I used a somewhat faster and less efficient transfer to Minmus with the service module.) New facepalm: Was using @akron's absolutely glorious Landvermesser probe system to gather science from the Mun. I park in a polar orbit with the transfer stage and use the deorbit motor, descending to the south pole. All is running as smooth as could be. Smart Parts altimeter ticks over and ejects the now spent motor at 16 km, arms the landing engines and deploys the gear at 15 km. Use Translatron on Mechjeb to perform a flawless suicide burn, and land on the side of a mountain. Then everything starts going sideways, quite literally. The probe slides down the side of the mountain, losing nearly 200 meters of elevation and putting it in a deep bowl before it finally, grudgingly, skids to a halt. I activate my science instruments and gather that sweet, glorious science, then begin to transmit it back to Kerbin. I manage to get out two smaller experiment results before I run low on power, then begin to look around to see how long until the sun hits the probe. Turns out, I found myself a Shackleton Crater. The probe is apparently in perpetual darkness. The sun is below the horizon of the surrounding mountains, no matter the time of "day". Cue facepalm.
  16. Good release! MASCOT was dropped at an altitude of 51 meters at 0157 UTC. MASCOT is communicating with Hayabusa.
  17. That's pretty nifty... Certainly going to keep an eye on this one.
