First, welcome aboard, @Kodiax! Do you have a picture of the contract?

If I were a teacher, I'd announce at the beginning of the year that I have a 1-strike policy about electronic devices: students may use any electronic to help them do schoolwork in class. If they are caught using their electronics for any purpose not directly related to schoolwork (such as going on social media, listening to music, and yes, going on these forums), they may not use their electronics in my class for the rest of the year, and will have to hand write and hand-submit all of their assignments. Draconian? Yeah, probably. Justified? Most certainly.

So, you have a plane on a conveyor belt...

An identical thread has been merged into this topic. Also, please see XKCD #356. -
And even then, you could always decide who shot first.

As a former student, who used these forums extensively during a STEM class... they should be blocked during school hours. It was fun, but I could have learned a lot more by actually paying attention in class.

Yet. This is pretty awesome, I think. Could you use the torque to make a helicopter? Also, this sharing of crafts and design techniques has been moved to the Spacecraft Exchange.

Moved to the Lounge, since this isn't actually about KSP.

Well, yeah, but that's because you have so much drag that it's inefficient to go fast at a low altitude. Because of the Oberth effect, though, the optimal rocket is designed to pick up as much speed as possible in the lower-and-mid-atmosphere, since your fuel expenditures are most efficient (DV per fuel burned) there. Assuming everything else is equal, the Oberth effect basically says that if you burn the same amount of fuel at different altitudes, the lower burn will have you end up at a faster speed. In summation- it's possible to get to the moon in a short, fat rocket, but it's generally best to use a long, skinny one. Think Oliver Hardy vs. Stan Laurel.

how the hell do you make a plane lift off

And banana-mod bad.

Just thought I'd let all you ice cream cravers know that I am currently eating ice cream. Carry on.

I, for one, welcome the return of our oversized, overengineered, overpowered, overlord. Looking forward to seeing how this craft turns out!

Sorry, but nature abhors a vacuum.

Oh, yeah, I need to do an on-topic post, too. I love to hike, if that counts. Spent 10 days in the backcountry of New Mexico with a bunch of buddies and covered 117 miles, which was really fun. Cycling is fun, when I get to spend time with my dad. Biked the Great Allegheny Passage with him. Great father-son trip. Oh, yeah, and I'm planning on going overseas sometime this year. Not sure when, though.

Well, according to this one picture I saw online, "everything's better wrapped in bacon!"

Those are the characters of an BBCode Forum. Not as clumsy or as random as a Latin keyboard. An elegant lettering... for a more civilized age.[1]

Maple syrup is not comparable to "pancake syrup." Heck, I'd put maple syrup on my steak, if I had some way to balance the flavors!
