  1. Signed up and entered myself in the tourny. Will upload .craft file and pics in a couple hours. Btw just so I'm sure, does: chaff = ecm jammer, and flares = smoke? Or are those different objects?
  2. Yeah I noticed that AMRAAM's don't even get close to the enemies if they have a jammer. Gonna switch those out for Sidewinders, methinks....

  5. Well, each additional engine adds a lot of extra weight, effectively lowering the dv. You really only need to cluster them when you don't have enough TWR at that particular stage. If the TWR is already 1.0+, then you shouldn't need any additional engines, as they will end up (basically) as dead weight. Let's say an engine weighs 4 tons. if it's able to lift the payload by itself, then it's fine. If you now add two extra engines, that's basically 8 extra tons that aren't helping it do anything it couldn't before. I recommend installing a mod like Kerbal Engineer or MechJeb that will give you a dv/TWR readout. Very helpful

  7. It's become much more difficult, certainly, but I still enjoy the satisfaction of a successful SSTO trip (especially if it goes further than just LKO)

  9. ^^ This is what I found as far as that conversation goes: As far as I can tell, it was kinda implied that one set of the jets (either RAPIER or RamJet) would be turned off, but I don't see anywhere it explicitly said which ones. Maybe I missed it tho?
  10. Usually just set to Hard mode... no reverts, no quicksaves, etc. If I screw up, I screw up. If something glitches, I blame it on the Kraken.
  11. Regarding altitude and min altitude, should we (for the next tourny) have rules in place to keep it even? Like the person running the tourny would set the Min Altitude and Altitude so that they are consistent across all entries. That way, we won't have some jets firing away .05 seconds after taking off, or zooming up to several thousand kms and out of the combat zone. IMO, it would help keep the battles from A) being particularly one-sided, and going on til one/both run out of fuel (a very anti-climactic way to end a battle, IMO). @Evstaman: looks good, but a little spammy. If it were mine, I'd try changing out the front wings so there's only 2 (not 4) and move the tail fins a little bit so it looks a little less spammy. But that's up to you.
  12. The Budgie is the longer, flatter one, and the Hobgoblin has the thinner wings with 3 missiles at the end of each. I believe the Budgie is shown first. But I agree, a brief window popping up with the name and creator when showing each jet for the first time would not be uncalled for.

  15. When you carry a notebook everywhere, so you can scribble down KSP ideas on the go.
  16. One of my latest creations, the Foxhound 1-B Longbed LPV (light patrol vehicle). Armed with 2x M230 30mm swiveling MG's, and is capable of refueling (and resupplying ammo) using on-board equipment. It uses an "internal combustion engine" of my own design to power the wheels up to 60m/s, and contains a generator able to power the drill and ISRU equipment. The wheels have been toughened significantly, at the expense of extra weight and drag. I'm considering using it as a hybrid circumnavigation vehicle, which would include shooting down enemy drones at specific stops. Armed drones seen in the background.

  18. I liked the barn. Granted, after taking a second look at it, the textures could use a lot of work, but overall I really like the concept. Also, ^^ barns as terrain scatter = genius

  20. I had a few of those days earlier this week. Not fun >.< Hope you're feeling better soon. Here's what I can think of as far as shielding... Pros: - Extra layer of protection, keeping vital/sensitive parts away from direct enemy fire for a period of time - Doesn't add much to the hit area if placed well - Can help "repair" nearby "damaged" parts (can help turn the tide in longer battles) Cons: - Feels a little unfair (unless everyone uses them) - Adds (an almost negligible amount of) extra weight and drag - Can help "repair" nearby "damaged" parts (very unrealistic) I would personally say that a small radiator should cost 2 points, and a larger one 3 points. But, of course, it's up to debate. Thoughts?
