Epiiiic. And it looks like Vulkan is making use of all 4 cores in the bigger/faster moving scenes, which is nice. If this was able to be directly applied with proportionate gains to KSP, I might actually be able to make interplanetary ships

I voted 70%, and appear to be in the majority. Most of the systems and everything is there, but it's not completely there. A couple more systems and some polish and it should be good.

What is next platform, that KSP will be ported to?

Space Plane Assent

I know the feeling, trust me. I had just started to get good at SSTO's in 0.90, and then 1.0 dropped, and nothing worked. I was actually pretty mad (well... more than pretty mad, honestly). I completely stopped playing for a few months even. I may have vowed to never make another SSTO again, to give you an idea of how I felt. Gradually I got back into it, but it's been a slow climb. If it's too frustrating, I say take a few weeks off and let the dust settle a little. At least that's what I did Another thing I did was turn off re-entry heat, as it was a mechanic I just did not like, nor wanted anything to do with. The SSTO I posted could make it to the station at the orbit you mentioned. I agree, though, that it's a lot more difficult than it really should be. I'd love to get my Mk3 line of station-building SSTO's going again, but I kinda feel like it might be impossible with my skill level. Maybe if I really fine-tuned them, but it seems it may be more trouble than it's worth. Pick your battles and all that jazz. Good luck! -
I'm not sure how I feel about this. I can understand the, uh, unhappiness in some folks regarding porting to the consoles, in a way. IMO, it all comes down to our human "tribal" mentality, i.e. "our side is right, anyone who is not on our side is an enemy." It seems silly, certainly, but it's something that's hard-wired into all humans. Made sense back in the caveman days (survival and whatnot), but doesn't transfer well to modern-day society. But oh well, what can you do? Personally, I welcome the ports. More people playing KSP can't possibly be a bad thing, as far as I'm concerned.

Space Plane Assent

The two biggest factors for me have been ascent profile and fuel ratio. Just getting one of them right doesn't seem to do it... I've done a nearly perfect ascent, just to realize I packed way too little oxidizer to complete orbit... and vice versa (not reaching orbit because it was too heavy due to excess fuel). I've done two launches (same plane, same payload, same engines, same fuel) right after each other, and had orbital dv differences of nearly a hundred dv. It's just a much finer line that it used to be, is what I guess I'm saying. -

That would be a result of your COM moving too far, causing instability. Think of an arrow: fins helping to stabilize the back, heavy tip at the front. Try moving your remaining fuel around just before re-entry. Try putting it all at the front for one attempt, then try putting it all at the back for another attempt. It should help you figure out where you want the weight on re-entry. On the bright side: tumbling through the atmosphere slows you down a LOT quicker than going in flat. But you also usually die. -

Oops, me being awkward again... like seeing someone you think is waving at you, but they're waving at the person behind you... The best I can offer is to try to level off in your planes "power band," a term I use to refer to the speed/altitude combo that provides the best boost before losing thrust. For mine, it's usually around 15-20km, during which I usually get from 600 - 1200 m/s, usually pitched at just about 5 degrees above horizon. -

Does getting 8 tourists (or crew, even) to orbit (and slightly beyond) count? Used to be able to do cargo SSTO's in 0.90 which could build stations piece-by-piece... not so much anymore :\ The good old days. -

Indeed! This particular craft is able to SSTO, then proceed to do a Mun fly-by and return. It was built with space tourism in mind, and can carry 8 passengers and 2 crew (or 9 + 1 if I really want). It usually takes off with approx 0.7 - 0.85 TWR, depending of the particular engine arrangement and fuel supply. My ascent probably isn't the most efficient, but it works for the designs I've built. I'll usually keep an eye on my Thrust readout, and adjust my ascent so that it's consistently rising. If the thrust is not increasing, I'll angle down a degree or two til it begins slowly rising again. Biggest issue is often in the 200 - 350 m/s range, wherein there often isn't enough speed to keep the positive feedback loop going, resulting in decreasing thrust. Some spaceplanes need to do a shallow dive at the point to build speed past the barrier, then pitch up again. Typically, I will never activate my LF+O engines unless I am at least 1100m/s (1300+ preferred, but not always possible) and 20km+ altitude. My end goal for this was to be able to SSTO, then perform both a Mun and Minmus fly-by, and return to KSC. I can almost do it, but I'm usually just a few hundred m/s of dv short :\ Of course, I could dock and re-fuel in LKO, but that kinda takes some of the fun out of it. Is it the easiest way to do it? Not really. But it's fun So it's definitely possible, it's just much harder than it was. I used to be able to SSTO with nearly anything... not so much anymore -

A Monty Python quote: "Look, strange women lying in ponds, distributing swords is no basis for a system of government!" with eyes closed. Look, trange women lying in ponds, distributing swords is no basis for a ststem of government! (Wow, much closer than I expected... a couple times I was positive I had my hands in the wrong place...) Another one, for fun: "You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you." (again, eyes closed) You can't expect to weild supreme execitove power because some watery tart threw a sword t you.

This is something I'd more expect to read on the Onion :| As far as I can work out, the bar is clearly not moving on it's own (or if it is, they forgot to explain how/why), but rather being moved by a human. What they've proved, effectively, is that if you move an object, that object has moved (but has conserved it's volume... which seems to be completely irrelevant). If an object is moved one direction more than the other, it will end up further that direction. I'm not sure how this means the iron bar "decided" to move that way, though. Rocks along the ocean floor will get swept a certain direction based on tides, currents, etc, but does that mean they're deciding to move? Clearly they're being affected by their environment, with no choice in the matter. I'm really hoping this was just very badly translated... Well said.
