totm june 2018 Work-in-Progress [WIP] Design Thread

Thanks for taking a look, I might go to one of the alternatives as I think that big engine would never look right for a V-22 replica. When I was testing your engine and my recreation, yours could do a lot more with two Junos than mine could. Any other strong round 1.25m parts I could use as the base? I found the fairings caused destruction almost straight away and ditched that idea earlier but I thought the base would be strong enough. I will probably use radiators around the engine if I can slim it down some more with gaps for stuff to stick through. -

I drove one once when I was younger, possibly inebriated (it was a different world 30 years ago, bite me) and remember virtually nothing about it, so possibly not much use to you. I am however in need of some assistance with your bearings This had a lot more cruft to start with, I was making a V-22 replica, I have stripped it down to as far as I can before abandoning it, the plan was to tilt the engines and carry some cargo, but I just can't get enough out of it, electric or jet powered, 5 junos per prop gets it off the ground, just, and it won't take anymore, the bearing is too unstable. My bearings are not as smooth as your original one from your helicopter and I don't think they perform as well, I was trying to slim them down for the engine pods, even go down to a 1.25m fairing base. Any ideas on how to get it up to scratch? https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8-nkDP75eETaWkyNnlQWFgxZEU -

Have a look at the shuttle @sgt_flyer and I built from the Build a Kerbal Scale ISS I tested it in 1.2.2 so it should still work. We isolated fuel using docking ports and action groups, also I incorporated flakbadgers trick of a couple more vertical surfaces offset inside the body to prevent the flat spins -
bah, what was I thinking Patreon annoys me, have you got a wallet? Ethereum, bitcoin etc?

I like it, really I do, and I feel your frustration with the stock parts trying to fit them in places where they just don't. It looks like it needs a smoothness pass, just a little tweak here or there to smooth it out. It may not even be possible. -

Yes, because you are not staging the fairing, it remains complete -

A little something to take my mind off filming, the Chenowth FAV special forces Fast Attack Vehicle, it works pretty much as expected, is quite solid and stable, could do with some BD Armory guns Download Getting some air

Only the ocean shaders are broken, you turn those off and scatterer runs fine -

I'm getting really good at going to the mun! Actually since I am starting to film some of this my autopilots are getting a lot of practice flying to the moon! Don't trust mechjeb to land anything, just saying, I can land it with half a tank, mechjeb run out of fuel at 20m, lucky the LM can take a hit. Got some nice shots, the rover has changed a bit to fix some aesthetic issues. I love that you can climb on rocks with SVE Textures and Kopernicus, you do have to remember not to run into stuff though -

Seems to be OK in this version, I had it snag once when offsetting it, just rebuilt it and it was OK -

Those props would work on xbox wouldn't they, they are stock props, built from stock parts -

Did some more work on the Saturn V, now the skirts seperate properly and the rover now seperates without breaking wheels, but I need to put a reaction wheel on it to recover from spills. While pondering the overturned rover (and sans Kerbal) Kerbinrise. Oh and I made a neat LES shroud, that I only recently noticed was a part of all the Apollo vehicles. See on launch, top is white In space top is silver Even uncle @Majorjim! missed that Apparently it's officially called the Aft Boost Protective Cover -

That was a great video, well done. -
It's all about tinkering, how about weight? I know some of the record breakers only flew for a few minutes and ran out of charge

If you install the VOID mod you can see how many rads per second you are getting, then loosen the bearing until you are hitting like 49 rads per second. So your top speed will be determined by how close you can reach that rotation speed and how much thrust the elevons generate. The more thrust the elevons generate the more torque you need to keep the rads up. The elevons move faster the further away from the craft they are, have you hit the limit there? Have you tried fewer or more elevons? The angle of the elevon is also very important, if you adjust the angle in flight can you achieve higher speeds?
-
I only made 30ms on the aerodynamics alone, the most speed came from increasing the elevon/propeller distance, and you can probably do with even less wings, wings=drag, once it's up to speed you should hardly need any
-
Get a mod called Editor Extensions Redux, it will help you greatly with the placement of parts.
-
I didn't touch your bearings at all, I covered the whole thing in a fairing, and moved the elevons a bit further apart, ditched a lot of the wings (and made the controls work properly) 260ms, which is .74 Mach on my meter, I think if you move the propellers further out again you will be able to achieve Mach 1 at least, good job, some more reaction wheels and you might be pushing the record Oh I also rocket boosted it to launch it Craft File https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8-nkDP75eETUjM1VDFPc2s5ZDQ
