I prefer mun, with lmo and lko fuel depots, and a couple tankers.

Area Discrepancy between modded wings and stock wings
jhousen replied to gilflo's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I should point out that there is a difference in the two wing shapes, the top one has a larger span at the tail than the bottom one, and the col is farther back -
my favorite: locating Jebediah Kerman motivating kerbals recruiting kerbals in that order

the largest I know of is 1.9 million lines there may be larger

this, but be careful, this method is more...accurate than you might think (landing on the base tends to break things)

How hard is docking
jhousen replied to Maxmaster084's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
slow is smooth, smooth is fast for an rcs balanced craft...1, maybe 1.2 if the target is not spinning, 100, maybe 110 if it is for rcs unbalanced craft, good luck 8-10 -
About those "Build a new orbital station" contracts
jhousen replied to Sonny_Jim's topic in KSP1 Discussion
here's the craziest contract I've ever heard of: we haven't even made orbit, let's land on the moon...yup, blame the politicians.... -
I tend toward resetting the game often, usually right after the kraken stops by to....remind me that it exists

How do you deal with all the shortcomings of the game ?

Is there a mod that you couldn't live without?
jhousen replied to Foxster's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
kerbal engineer, and alarm clock are the only ones that would really suck Aies, and kw are going to be difficult (I have enough coding exp. so not impossible, these are part mods after all) -
might be what you are looking for... edit: not sure if it'll work with 1.1

they just shoehorned a viper engine into a Yugo, not a small feat at all added bonuses can wait...

When / where to launch for Minmus straight-shot?
jhousen replied to Xyphos's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
That would be about 7 minutes before where you would put a maneuver node if you were in a stable orbit (takes about 6 minutes to get to orbit plus about 30 seconds for the first half of the tmi burn, you end up getting into the parking orbit just in time to burn for minmus -
Stopped Tracking a Rescue Kerbal
jhousen replied to S2KRo's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
There's your problem, rescues show up as ships, enable ship tracking -
50 m/s is about 110 miles per hour, not slow at all. Most planes land slower than that.

Hmmm, service bays, I normally use them for anything small (batteries, science experiments, life support, rcs, extra parachutes, etc)
-
I use KOs, useful for a lot more than just piloting, and staging, and auto landing, and science spam... Haven't written an auto dock script yet...I think that may be my next project. I generally won't use an automation program unless I have written it myself (and I normally won't write one until I've done that task to the point of boredom) it's about the only programming I will do any more. Edit: what's this mechjeb I keep hearing about?

Help: TWR formula in Visual basic?
jhousen replied to Brainlord Mesomorph's topic in KSP1 Discussion
atmospheric pressure slows the exhaust velocity, effectively lowering the output thrust and isp, a simple case of needing to move the air out of the way -
I will TRY TO DO A 6000m\s JET SPEED RECORD !!!!
jhousen replied to prorokbmx's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I've only seen 10k once... returning from Eeloo in .90 with a vertical reentry angle, max g forces were off the charts for a looong time (we calculated the peak in the 400g range) almost ran out of atmosphere, opened the chute at 1200 m/s at around 800m conclusion, that reentry sucked, getting that velocity in horizontal flight is not going to happen with air breathers, and 10k dv with a rocket seems close to theoretical maximums.(wow, lots of edits today, off by a zero, try 100k for the theoretical max (assuming ions)) probably not possible, even with rockets...unless you leave the atmosphere edit, well, that was 10k m/s, but I see you are only after 6, slightly more possible still incredibly hard, might I suggest a dres return? -
aka "running off the runway" enable steering on the front wheel(s), this is disabled by default and can result in unintended consequences that is all, if I think of something that will be more effective, I'll let you know

1/3 of mun's commsat constellation is just hanging out in kerbol orbit without fuel after I used it as a booster stage(interesting failure there, dumped it into a highly eccentric kerbin orbit, and a mun intercept kicked it into a solar orbit. it even got me the fly by the sun contract complete, so I'm not too disappointed)

Anyone Else Recently Build A Bad@** PC in Reponse to upcoming 1.1?
jhousen replied to scribbleheli's topic in The Lounge
not for 1.1, I bought a surface pro so I wouldn't have to sit at my desk while playing ksp (I use it for other things, but...) -
crossing the streams uncrossing the streams checking the entry couplings checking primary buffer panel locating primary buffer panel reattaching oddball part to questionably spinning thing in middle of rocket heading straight through the chompers

currently about 6000, peaked at about 8000 I had interstellar fuel switch and real fuels installed at the same time for the higher number (not recommended, 22k dv to get to orbit is a touch much)
