I noticed something similar recently, I was getting KCT Crash messages after every launch or two. I think what happened was my Launch crashed when I reverted it (completely unconnected to KCT) and KCT seemed to have trouble reconciling a Launchpad cleanup with an object on the pad in the KSC view (or its own accounting got hung during the crash leaving its data in an inconsistent state). I deleted contents of the recon_rollout key and everything seemed to work fine

Lovely mod...the only thing I think it might need is CTT integration -

Considering the shape of the Dome ISRU...I like qwetyza's idea of a nuclear pulse engine...an old style drop a ball of deuterium onto the nozzle and zap it with lasers idea resembled that in some artists drawings I remember from the 80's you'd probably been to put a top attachment point though, I didn't think those things were well radially. -
is it worth having a counter or something to count the number of manned missions in a period which resets every budget period? Early on we usually have a lot of manned (Kerballed?) missions but not much in the way of permanent stations or planetary bases. Also just thinking...as I understand your calculations..NASA's budget would have been pretty thin before skylab Just a thought

[1.02] Vertical Propulsion Emporium. v0.22b (10th may 2015)
Revenant503 replied to Kerb-fu's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I was wondering if some form of Aether Propeller (steam powered of course) would be analogous to what some lesser societies deem to call an "ion drive" or perhaps a "hall thruster" (If you will excuse the expression) -
Tantares for me..the parts are more interesting to use and mix with others and I always thought some of the HGR stuff just looked wrong

when you install it it should set up a file association for you (and maybe ask if you want to let it handle zip files and tar and rars). in which case just double click on the file and it happens automatically...you just have to say you want to extract whatever you want.

Agree totally...but I think there needs to be a differentiator in an unmodded game somehow..price or weight or maybe position on the tech tree are the only three I can think of

I'd make two pods with the same exterior, and then the 4kerb version I'd give a bigger life-support and KIS allotment and make the 6 man more expensive. I don't think 6 crew is excessive, thats a good size for a Duna mission crew assuming your keeping the orbital hab crewed or building a ground lab

I used a kinda silly methodology..I assumed the 2nd stage tank was reasonably well sized based on volume, the bottom stage less so because of its shape In the brochure for a Proton Breeze M launch it lists the propellant amounts of the 1st and 2nd stage the ratio in RL is 2.7:1 The ratio Tantares uses is 4.1:1 Now those ratios are interesting because 4.1:1 is close to the ratio of SLThrust for the Rl Prtoton 1st stage to 2nd stage and 2;7 is close to the Tantares figures, I already knew the 2nd stage was delivering too much thrust to make me happy because it was managing a TWR of 1.6 on KSP test launches and I was looking for around 1.0 for the second stage...so I assumed you'd reversed them on your spreadsheet somehow when you were doing the numbers TLDR Version...I wanted a Proper Proton TWR and to reduce the Delta V to levels I was happier with...I had a reason to cut the fuel in engine A...I tried it an it worked (which struck me as a very pragmantic Russian approach) _ I also cut the Thrust in Engine B and C but that was a while back and when I posted the configs I got, the silence was deafening) Oh and If I was going the whole hog, I'd then build something with equivalent fuel and thrust in stock and make the component price competitive (not necessarily a stock proton which was done excellently previously..just comparing what the same numbers would cost me in a stock game), For the proton and N-1 and Soyuz LV...I'd be looking at getting the right figures for payoad and twr and deltav first which should make thrust and ISP curves fall out automagically.

Funnily enough that was my first thought, but to make the whole system work you need to lower total DeltaV so even when I brought the lower stage up to the correct TWR it wasn't working right without lowering the ISP to ludicrous levels. What I didn't notice was the proportions of fuel in the stages for the 2nd and third stages were about right, the fuel amount in the first stage was way to high, after adjusting that it turned out the first stage thrust was about right (not having all that fuel weight to lift) and the Total system Delta V was much closer to what I was happy with

I was planning on making some suggestions but I got sidetracked by life and 1.0.4 Off the top of my head the Proton B and C engines need to have their thrust cut about 10% and the lower stage needs its fuel and price dropped by 1/3. The R-7 I haven't done any testing on but it based on careers I've done it feels like getting rid of the booster config entirely and cutting thrust by 30% and ISP by a big bit for the lower engines is the way to go (The Soyuz LV is a tough call because you've got to decide which soyuz LV it wants to be...the engines have had 50 years of continuous improvement)

Revenant503 replied to tjsnh's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Nice! And congratulations on another tree Any thought on merging the soviet and US one at some point? Maybe use the historical missions from MissionController2? Also...do you think near future will fit in (I've been looking at the old Russian Mars plans)- 54 replies

The Pol control block took a major remote tech hit about 3 Tantares versions ago (The original Pol remote tech file gave it a massive 8 MgM range innately which sort of meant you never needed any omni antenna ever for a probe if you really didn't want it. I still like the pol for its size and shape as a probe core but its days of being able to be a standalone comsat are gone)

Oh About the launch facility I've got a vague recollection of seeing the launch on TV (I was 8 at the time) and the rocket was assembled on the pad with the VAB over it, then the shed actually rolled back when Launch time came - can't find a reference on the woomera websites so I may have been thinking of an episode of Thunderbirds

That is massively cool! I love space gear that never was - - - Updated - - - Heres a Keepfit config file for Tantares - I think someone was working on a Connected Living Space config which will make keepfit even more interesting https://www.dropbox.com/s/02sjkplbp8pfuyl/Tantares_keepfit.cfg?dl=0

One thing you may notice about the Proton is your Fuel Proportions between 2nd and 1st stages are a little out. I figured that your first stage has about 60% more fuel than it should...surprisingly when I adjusted that the old (pre last Proton Update) 1st stage to lower fuel, the engine worked almost exactly as I thought it should (SLT 1.3 on a 20 ton payload)

Yeah my go-to 2.5m Launcher has been variations on the Proton 2nd and 3rd stage parts (actually they make a mighty fine Rus-M)

In a perfect world! The problem is in Career mode the Progress and ATV are almost at the end of the tree and the Soyuz is way earlier so if you've got a space station because you signed some fool contract to have one then your either trying to get TAC inline tanks or hex cans on your soyuz..not a big deal but its really jarring to see this pretty soyuz with a huge white band in the middle where the TAC cylinder is - - - Updated - - - Out of curiosity Cost of Tantares Proton Vs Cost of your Stock Proton? My perception has always been that the Tantares Proton (esp the lower stage) was massively overpriced but you've come the closest I've seen to a stock equivalent so I'm curious how the costs compared.

Err yes and no 3 months is the soyuz dormant mode, I thought it was 1 days supply for the landing module and 13 days for the orbital module You do have a dormant mode when your docked (kinda), TAC drains all resources equally and considers docked craft part of the station so you need to remember to do the alt click tank transfer thing (or Use tac balancer or ship manifest) before undocking Pesonally I always install procedural parts as a matter of course and a 10mm x1.25m life support tank sitting just before the manoeuvring engine adds a nice 20 days of LS
