Here's Scott to help you get a general idea. I don't know if it's the mod itself that generates related contracts or they show up thanks to the now-stock FinePrint, probably the former.
-
So you want ground service then. The only problem I see with taxiing in ksp is that you should always start facing in the right direction, since there is no pushback tows to reverse your plane or park you after you land.
-
I also noticed that if you obstruct one of the engines with another part, like placing a girder too close to the nozzle, it now tends to reduce the output drastically, spinning the craft out of control or killing your thrust dramatically. I discovered this the hard way while trying to land on the mun and burning up all my fuel without slowing me down a single bit.
-
When you keep a temperature probe around Minmus, and keep it to complete every temperature scan you need by simply tweaking angle and altitude, maybe landing a couple times. Seriously, I completed about 10-12 temperature scan contracts with a single 15k Kredits probe.

Candy cane engines, yum.

Why you should always read the missions before you accept them
Janos1986 replied to RocketBlam's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I tried to add a crew module to an existing base and connect it with a fuel line (K.A.S.), but it unchecks the "Launch a new station" checkmark since the modules that are already in place are not a "new outpost" but an existing one. -
Or you can just go EVA and kick it away.

Oh look, I'm on Gilly, let's kill my orbit vel- wait is it coming towards me? RUUUUUUUUUUUN!
-
For me it's not about the grind itself, it's about how useless some missions are. I usually try to get the best out of them, for example if I have to send up a satellite for a mission, I strap on a RADAR and a Spectrometer from SCANSat to make it a bit useful for future missions. But even if you say "eh, I can keep my orbital station as a refueling relay", it justifies ONE station to be kept alive around a planet, two maybe, not a freaking dozen. And I know that the contracts are randomly generated, but I still think it needs a bit of tweaking.

You may need the Level 3 tracking station, or you can't track unknown objects. -

Yeah, exactly what he said. The only problem would be the constant stuttering when loading approaching asteroids. But a man can dream, you know. -

Minmus outpost? Piece of cake. THERE! I landed it, and it's all in place. Batteries, solar panels, antenna, a 5 kerbal habitat... and I left the bloody RESEARCH LAB AT HOME. -
And a class D asteroid is an analog of Gilly.
-
I really don't like the overabundance of surface outposts and space station contracts. Why do I have to clutter a single moon or planet with dozens of stations and outposts with labs and habitats just to delete them right after the contract pays off? And since the pay is good, I feel almost obligated to accept them to get my R&D up and running (I need more than 6 MILLIONS for the level 3 R&D in hard mode). EVA Report missions should pay a bit more and there should be more "Add THIS SPECIFIC part to an existing orbit station around X planet" I partially solved this problem by installing StationScience, which also add orbital experiment contracts, check it out if you didn't already.
-
Noice, I needed something like that for the EVA report contracts, since I usually struggle a bit to get my heading right while on a hike due to the camera and the lack of a navball or any kind of compass. And I tend to walk A LOT.

Outer planets, rings and an asteroid belt would be a nice challenge. -
I use KER and KAS as mods. Should I miss the target by a few hundred meters while landing, I read my heading on the surface menu of KER and get there by foot. If it's a temperature, or barometric, or seismic scan, I detach the related sensor from thr plane and bring it with me for the trip. You can use it even if it's attached to a kerbal instead of a ship.

How do you do rotating VTOL engines?
Janos1986 replied to innociv's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
There's nothing much that you can do aside from fine tuning of the rotatrons. Try to attach just the engine with a fuel line to the actuator and keep the tank fixed to the rest of the vtol. Maybe it will wobble less. -
KSP 0.90 'Beta Than Ever' Grand Discussion Thread!
Janos1986 replied to KasperVld's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Leaving the challenges aside, I have big plans for my kerbals. I want to install a life support mod, estabilish mining outposts, refueling stations, comm relays and cities on every moon of the system and establilish a federation of planets and moons. I want a space fleet capable of traveling from and to every celestial body without having to rely on Kerbin for resources. I want the Kerbol system as accessible as my neighborhood. I want FREEDOM! D: -
Today Bill landed on the Mun. It's my first Munwalk since 0.90. Yay!
-
I'm playing Hard too, with permadeath and no quickload/revert, and in a week I unlocked lv2 mission control, VAB, runway, administration, tracking station and all the first tier of tech tree. It's a bit grindy at the beginning yeah, but with the first two strategies active it all evens out, especially with aerial surveys and satellites.
-
I find refueling stations pretty useless without mods such as Kethane, since the refueling of the stations themselves is usually very expensive. On the other hand, strap on a Kethane tank, a converter, and a dockable lander beside your LFO tank and it should be shiny enough. With this in mind, Minmus and Gilly are the first choices as homes to these kind of starions thanks to the ease of landing for mining due to the low gravity.
-
Please note that if you're skilled enough (or like me you suck at math and you have the trajectory mod installed) to re-enter your final stage neatly on the runway every time you only have the spent fuel and jettisoned stages to take into account as real costs. And with pods, science modules solar panels and whatnot, the value of the final stage is usually way more than the sum of every bit of the vector you sacrifice. Also, consider using a simple jet engine with landing legs to check out the various part test contracts in flight over Kerbin. It''s not obvious as it seems, apparently.

Naming Policy, The Art of Naming your Rockets.
Janos1986 replied to TimePeriod's topic in KSP1 Discussion
In my last career I called my first rocket Lancelot because it was thin and long, and then I found myself with Bedivere, Galahad, Percival, Yvain, the Merlin lander and lastly my interplanetary cruiser, the King Arthur Mk.II. In this new save I'm trying to keep the naming useful for identifying a craft and creative at the same time. For example, my orbital rescue vehicle for stranded kerbals is called Cavalry Mk.III
