I guess it's space in general I'm glad you jumped the gun because (Norpo) the guy who won the riddle was taking too long.

Whack A Kerbal? I don't get it
KerBlam replied to cicatrix's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It's for stress relief... It works too. -
Why should robots have all the fun? Sure humans are heavy, but there's heaps of them, and probably quite a few that would sacrifice 2-5 years (or all) of their lives to get to be the first person to see Venus and Mars up close. I don't know about anyone else, but I'd probably do it if I could. Also, purely as a spectator, would you prefer to see the reaction of a person as they draw close to Venus, or a robot? I'd love to see that. Imagine the moon landing if it was a robot instead of Neil Armstrong... Not nearly as interesting. As far as your plan goes $300 mill seems amazingly cheap for a project of that magnitude.

Beating Beta Than Ever: To 99,999,999 and Beyond (in stock)
KerBlam replied to Kerano's topic in KSP1 Discussion
wow man!!.. That's impressive! How long has this taken you? IRL hours? -
I'd like to see KSP become a thing that just continually evolves, and getting more content and updated and refreshed until eventually (get this) it's actually galaxy sized, and online, so people can visit other peoples solar systems and set up Kerbal trading.... Some kind of evolving tech, so as your Kerbals get more advanced scientifically they have access to more advanced technology, warp drives etc. In other words, I'd be quite happy if SQUAD and the KSP devs just concentrated on refining and making KSP more betterer.

That is eerily true. The user below me doesn't go outside because of 'the others'

No, I saw Harvesters reply, and yep, I took it as a no. What 'no' means in the context of my question though is that KSP will never see U5. I'm not really into responses that are open to interpretation. I don't see how the benefits could be 'minimal' when games like Verdun are trialling it and seeing huge performance boosts. Native Multi-processor and multi-threading support are what KSP needs, as much as the 64b RAM limit. In any case, if I have to be happy with a non-answer, then I will begrudgingly do so. This thread can be for intelligent debate about the topic if needed.

The water in your pineal gland flips in and out of the 4th dimension and creates reality.

Thanks, but as the question has not been directly answered, I'll keep asking Also so we're clear your comment added to the discussion... nothing of any value at all.

Aint nobody got time for that.

That's what this thread is about. KSP is built on Unity 4, which is a great platform but it is outdated. Unity 5 is in Beta. Benefits of Unity 5 are: Unity is now 64-bit New multithreaded job scheduler NVIDIA PhysX 3.3 Easier and incremental building of Asset Bundles New 2D physics effectors SpeedTree Integration NavMesh improvements Mecanim StateMachine Behaviours Loading optimizations And many other improvements Also, I've see evidence of other development teams using and testing the U5 beta engine with their games, quite simply. I would really love to know if the KSP devs are doing the same, and if not, why not. link to Verdun Devs live testing U5

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that Woody01 was referring to starting KSP over for Unity 5.

I'm pretty sure that mod authors still need to update the metadata when they update a mod which isn't a huge job, they usually do it anyway via github. I don't think this is the place for this convo anyway. As long as they're aware it's going on. Another thing I've found (not related to CKAN): When I'm building in the SPH, I've noticed that build aid seems a bit screwy when I'm checking attitude thrust. It shows everything around 90 degrees out, as in, when I select up, it shows the RCS thrust for right, right is down, down is left, left is up.... Everything seems normal in flight, but the display does not seem to not showing correctly in the SPH editor.
-
RE: RCS build aid.. I've just been to their thread... Apparently the author didn't put it on CKAN, and so it's not being maintained. Anything that's up on CKAN really needs to be put there by the Author of the mod. I'm noticing a couple of double-ups, and a few that aren't being maintained. The other thing is EVE trying to update itself to the same version (7-4) I have installed. I have posted this fault numerous times now both here and at EVE's thread and been largely ignored but it's doing my head in.
-
I'm here to tell him about the same thing. I've been told before that the Author needs to authorise a mod to be on CKAN, so if it hasn't been authorised he really needs to let hakan know to take it off there if it's not going to be maintained.

Hard to say. I don't think they would do that TBH. In all reality if they were to make KSP 2.0 it would have to be a vastly different game.

Depends on the motive, what makes it important?... I like the idea of Space travel, purely because it's an intrepid pursuit into the only frontier that we have left, we have conquered everything else, and barely scratched the surface of what's 'out there'... However, if we are pursuing Space Travel purely for the opportunity to mine and exploit what we can find on other planets, or to colonise elsewhere, then I think the motive is wrong. I'd like it if we were able to live sustainably here on Earth first, or else who's to say we aren't the ancestors of the Vogons? Playing modded KSP has given me some idea of the difficulties associated with inter-planetary travel, It makes my mind boggle that we have worked this stuff out IRL, and that we are capable of accurately predicting orbital trajectories and planetary intercepts. We have even put things on Mars. Not bad for a bunch of Monkeys.

Do you feel KSP is ready for 1.0?
KerBlam replied to hoojiwana's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
It seems to me that they have noted the concerns of the community, and are going ahead with the release anyway. Whatever their reasons are, they obviously believe that they are ready, or they wouldn't be doing it. I think this thread has hashed over every concern that the community has had, repeatedly... If there was a good enough reason for SQUAD to delay the release and spend a bit more time in Beta, I think that's what they would be doing. These are smart guys... I think we should give them the benefit of the doubt. After all, even if the release isn't AAA standard, and full of bugs, it's not going to stop me playing KSP. I'll just be loading up my 0.90 game and love it all the same. I can't tell how well the mainstream gaming community is going to pick up KSP... If I'm honest I'd say that a majority won't have the patience for the learning curve, and go back to playing Call of Duty. Hardcore gamers won't be impressed with performance on their x64 gaming rigs. I think the Linux gaming community will take to it the most enthusiastically, and that's a reasonably small percentage of the market. -
KSP 1.0 Naming Discussion Thread

Kerbal Space Program 1.0: Go For Launch! -
There's no competition. If you have a 64bit machine with 4+ cores, a 64bit OS, and 16GB of RAM... You should be able to use the full capabilities of that hardware, and KSP is one game that really needs the performance. I understand that KSP has been in development for 4 years, when machines like that were rarer... If I can be grateful for anything it's that KSP has driven quite a few people to try Linux, so they can take advantage of the increased performance. something they otherwise might never have done. I'm a pure Linux user, have been since 2006, so the ONLY reason I have KSP is because it's Linux compatible. Apart from the RAM limit, the other thing that plagues KSP is the lack of multi-threading capabilities. Most functioning computers these days have multiple CPU's and KSP does not take advantage of that at all, trying to run all processes on only one of your cores, even if you have 8. You can trick it slightly, but it's really something that needs to be addressed in the base platform of the game i.e. Unity. In short: Wrangling texture compression to get an operational 32bit game is fine if you have 32bit OS and only 4GB of RAM... but for the rest of us, it equates to 'dumbing down' your machine, which has power and memory to spare. It's frustrating to watch your Gaming PC choke while only using a quarter of its resources.

The world orbited an orange bright sub-giant (Type K1 IV) star and possessed two moons: Corvix and Praxis, the latter of which became remnants that circled the planet after it exploded in 2293. The planet itself possessed a single landmass that comprised the entire habitable surface. The terrain consisted primarily of high, rocky mountains, jagged cliffs, and rivers of lava, which were the result of unstable tectonics. A greenhouse effect caused by the volcanic ash kept the planet's surface warm and trapped its oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere. The interaction of cold air over the ocean and extremely hot air over the continents gave rise to sizable storms; with no land on the planet's far side to halt their growth, hurricanes the size of Earth's North America formed over the sea and slammed into the land like a sledgehammer. Visitors to Qo'noS found it difficult to move around in the high gravity (1.23G) and thick atmosphere causing fatigue among those who visited the planet.

Thanks.. I hope the transition isn't too difficult for you guys when it comes about. I have read and I understand that you guys are absolutely determined to release 1.0. and implement further improvements after release. That's cool, I get it for whatever reason, it's your project and you can do what you like. The reason I asked the question 'Is any testing being done using the UNITY 5 beta?' is because, even though it is a beta release you would get a feel for how much of a task the transition would be when it happens. To me that sort of thing seems ideal while KSP is still in Beta itself. I'd assumed that you would have access to the beta version, because everybody who pre-ordered UNITY 5 has access to the beta for free. While I'm not expecting magical silver bullets, what I do expect is that one day I will be able to run KSP using all of my cores, and all of my RAM natively without having to write shell scripts to force specific OpenGL libraries and Multi-threading. I enjoy this game. I've been a gamer my whole life, and KSP has effectively replaced every other game. I don't play anything else now. I really want it to be as good as it can possibly be, and I'd like to get the maximum performance out of my hardware, which I know I'm not at the moment.

Might as well change the name of the thread to "Everybody stab wildly in the dark at vague flowery descriptions that don't allude to anything to do with the answer" Also, I'm not going to guess your grandparents anniversary. Who has a real riddle?
