  1. @bncrock Those motherboards kinda destroy my budget. I am aiming for ~ $1000 aud I'm not a hardcore gamer and generally don't play fps games due to motion sickness becoming more common as I get older (I'm not that old, but I can't play the same games that I did in my 20's). how about a z170p?
  2. He he he, yeah 2006 tech bought in 2007. There were a couple of minor upgrades (more ram and a video card). Its loud and pumps out a lot of heat. Performance is steadily declining. Same here. Though I'm going to keep the case and graphics this time in order to save $
  3. Would there be any real advantage with going for an 1151 socket over the 1150? Considering that my upgrade cycle is at almost 10 years, I doubt that the 1151 will even be around by the time I need to upgrade. This has been my experience with PC's since forever.
  4. Just forget the fairings. for some reason unbeknownst to me they don't quite have joints with the rigidity of the rest of the rocket parts. this will cause your payload to flollop about and tip you over. some people can use them but they don't work for me.
  5. The mobo is an ancient xfx tri sli 780i board. Terrible mobo. Sli turned out to be completely disappointing. I used to have two 8800gt cards in there, but there was maybe 5% better frames on Crysis and nothing on fallout 3. They eventually burned out, so I got the 650 a year or so ago. Am leaning toward a 6700k & 16gb on my next build, but that'll be a way off because someone wants a new kitchen & I need to finish my studies. Lousy studies, always ruining my fun.
  6. 1.04? you can turn it off or reduce it when you setup your save. theres always the option to edit your configuration file
  7. Pretty sure I missed the orbit insertion and ended up time warping until I had an intercept again. Eventually made orbit and had many f9 reverts before I landed with frantic jabs at the keyboard. I wasn't all that familiar with the interface and struggled to keep the orientation retrograde. If I picked it up now, the hold retrograde function would have made it a heck of a quieter and less stressful. Of course that doesn't help any in early career.
  8. I'm overdue for an upgrade. Where do you think my bottleneck is? e8500 @ 3.16ghz 8gb 800mhz ram gtx650 2gb The clock is never green, even in stock.
  9. Never ended career voluntarily. New versions and corrupt saves have done me in every time. Back in January I had a rather nice base on Minmus after a lot of effort. After a failed resume from sleep on Linux, my career was destroyed. Sad days
  10. I too like the new feature. Your idea for a habitation mechanic is most excellent! Hopefully something more will come of it
  11. Nope (afaik). 64bit on win7 means I can dump my Linux install (I hope). It runs ok on 32 bit, but I like mods. Not a silly amount of them, but crashes are less frequent with access to more ram. The only thing I don't like in Linux are the jagged edges on the visuals and the squirly flight stick support.
  12. The Logitech e3dpro is great in winders, but in Linux it just doesn't stay calibrated and caused all my rockets to invert. My planes always veer off to the right. am looking forward to 1.1 just to be able to use it again!
  13. All in the yellow, all the time. 1 part or a hundred. Makes no difference.
  14. I really like this mod. as with everything I do in kerbal, there is much trial and error. mostly error.
  15. Maybe its nice outside, everywhere?
  16. After playing for 2 years, I finally made a working spaceplane! It uses the OPM mod, with Venn's overhaul. 4 x Rapier and 4x Whiplash. The thing flies nicely above 90m/s brick-like below 80/ms Can't carry a payload and it made space (about 500km iirc) by itself on SAS, but not orbit while I took a quick break... Still had about 2500m/s of LF when I hit the atmosphere, but I handled the descent poorly and burned of too much speed and ended up landing on some undulating grassland having narrowly missed a mountain near the crater-bay. Can't get the album to embed Out of fuel Not even dead (5 or so re-loads)
  17. Tried scatterer out of curiosity. Computer didn't melt, however windows 32bit crashed on revert to vab where linux 64bit did not(too many mods i guess).
  18. I tried replying yesterday, but my phone has an old quote stuck in the reply box. They're prettiness mods. Can be a bit harsh on your machine. Especially Scatterer.
  19. That'd be a sweet addition to the ksc. It would justify some of the cost of the top tier launchpad.
  20. By Max, do you mean scatter and eve were installed? I think my compute would chug to a halt if I tried that at the moment.
  21. Have just been poking about with partspicker and checked out the highest clock AMD offering. What gives with the massive power consumption?
  22. So just looking around and it seems that I'm hampered by the same thing that caught me out last time. Last time DDR3 was too rich for my blood, this time DDR4 is the same. Looks like the 4790k is the CPU of choice (no DDR4 anyway right?) but being in Australia that means $$$ at the moment. Good thing I have a few months to go on the studies, then I'll have a nice reimbursement payment from work!
  23. Holding out for finishing my studies (August hopefully). My current PC is 9 years old, sounds like a vacuum cleaner (especially in summer) and I get unpleasant frame rates on ships over 200 parts even when overclocking at 3.5ghz. I've been pretty happy with the longevity I've had out of it. Though I must say that buying a core 2 quad was a pointless exercise in 2007. I ended up changing the CPU from a Q9450 2.66ghz (clocked at 3ghz) to an e8500 3.16ghz (clocked at 3.5ghz when weather permits). This was a $15 upgrade that worked brilliantly for KSP. The plan for the next build, is to go a tad idiotic and buy far more power than I'll need. Leaning toward a CPU with a base clock of at least 4ghz. That way I have a good amount of performance without worrying about overheating.
  24. I just realised I've been playing this game for 2 years and haven't gotten bored! Had to impose several bans on myself for academic reasons, but never bored!
  25. I don't expect to be owning a console any time soon, but this makes me happy anyway. KSP for everyone!
