You could at least have told us, then I wouldn't even have tried a brute-force

I couldn't find any brute-force programs for this type of cipher...

    YOU BRUTE-FORCED MANUALLY?!?!?!

  2. That's gonna take a while.

I'm looking at each "word" individually:

The overall message is RGTGNNRT NNNGGRGNGT LGRRLLNN NGGRTNGN RRTTRG LNGTGTGNGRNNRT

Here are the letter pairs that each "word" breaks down into:

    RGTGNNRT: RG TG NN RT
NNNGGRGNGT: NN NG GR GN GT
    LGRRLLNN: LG RR LL NN
    NGGRTNGN: NG GR TN GN
    RRTTRG: RR TT RG
LNGTGTGNGRNNRT: LN GT GT GN GR NN RT

  3. Welcome, all!

This is a thread about codes and ciphers. Talk about cryptography, post encrypted messages, crack someone else's post, as long as it's related to cryptography, you're good!

For my first challenge: Can anyone crack the Location status on my profile?

How about a frequency count of each pair of letters?

    Hey, good idea!

    That gives us:

    NN: 14.81%
    GT: 11.11%
    GR: 11.11%
    GN: 11.11%
    NG: 7.41%
    RR: 7.41%
    RG: 7.41%
    RT: 7.41%
    TT: 3.7%
    LN: 3.7%
    TN: 3.7%
    LG: 3.7%
    TG: 3.7%
    LL: 3.7%

Unfortunately, that's not enough data to allow a complete decryption via frequency analysis alone, but offers a tantalizing glimpse: NN, the most common pair in the cipher, has a good probability of coding for the most common letter in the English language, E! Their statistics even match, give or take a few percent.

The message is now RG TG E RT E NG GR GN GT LG RR LL E NG GR TN GN RR TT RG LN GT GT GN GR E RT.

One letter (possibly) down, many more to go... I'll keep you guys posted.

    A'GG IP WBTLRAKE YMU!

Alright, let me take a crack at this.

    The message contains only five letters. Frequency analysis gives us ~27.78% N, ~27.78% G, ~20.37% R, ~16.67% T, ~7.41% L. Maybe let's switch to a different tactic.

Five letters only indicates that it could be a variant of the ADFGX cipher. We'll need to arrange an ADFGX table, with RGNTL (not necessarily in that order) replacing the ADFGX. However, there are 120 (5!) possible arrangements of the characters RGNTL. Brute-force attack it is...

    The possible permutations are:

    Hmm...

Running it backwards as the hint suggests gives us "WAHXEONLGORTALVMIYTTYIFMAELHLASSACNODMEEATROTBHUTRUNRINISNTVOOSKKEYT,HFEEAANRCTIHEENBTEPAOSWTEWRITTHHAJTUISMTAOYNREEETYUER.N"

A lost of times, codes use extraneous letters. Let's try removing every other letter. We'll keep the beginning W, and then work from there. That gives us "WHENGRAVITYFALLSANDEARTHTURNSTOSKY,FEARTHBEASTWITHJUSTONEYE". PROMISING!

If we start by removing the W, we get "AXOLOTLMYTIMEHASCOMETOBURNIINVOKETHEANCIENTPOWERTHATIMAYRETURN". ALSO PROMISING!

    Let's add spaces:

WHEN GRAVITY FALLS AND EARTH TURNS TO SKY, FEAR THE BEAST WITH JUST ONE EYE

AXOLOTL MY TIME HAS COME TO BURN I INVOKE THE ANCIENT POWER THAT I MAY RETURN

    Those are... coherent messages!

The first one appears to be a slight misquote of McGucket saying, "When gravity falls and earth becomes sky, fear the beast with just one eye!"

The second is Bill's supposed last words (he may still be alive), "A-X-O-L-O-T-L, MY TIME HAS COME TO BURN! I INVOKE THE ANCIENT POWER THAT I MAY RETURN!"

    Nice references!

The probe is dead now, but anything available was transmitted during its mission.

Yes, we lost contact, but automatic instruments should have gotten more sensor data, even after the antenna broke. Plus, we should be able to find out what went wrong by recovering the blackbox.

The probe's flight data recorder is located inside Panel 05 of the OKTO. To open, push the small button marked ARM PANEL COVER 05 EJECTION for three seconds, then pull the lever marked EJECT PANEL COVER 05. The flight data recorder is a hard drive labeled JAI:OP-FDR inside the storage rack labeled JAI:OP-SR-17.

What if...Bill is the one behind the ET/Kraken genocide and orchestrated all the cataclysms in the series?

Either way, I find it hard that anything could be more psychopathically horrific than a floating Illuminati that has killed trillions of innocents and tortures mortals to the brink of insanity just for the heck of it.

    *tinfoil hat engaged*

Let's look at Bill's rap sheet, shall we?

-Attempting a hostile takeover of an entire dimension with a group of actual frickin' demons

-Being an actual frickin' demon (I suppose that doesn't necessarily make you evil, but still, who ever heard of a nice demon?)

-Likely being in charge of the Illuminati

-Premeditated murder (Victim: The Laws Of Physics)

-Premeditated murder (Victim: The Fourth Wall)

-Attempted premeditated murder (Victim: The Entire Frickin' Multiverse

    -Manipulating an alien spacecraft

-Manipulating three generations of family, including two children

-Possibly manipulating the entire human race for all 200,000 years of its existence

-Altering the theme song of the television show he exists in

    -Being a verified psychopath

    -Impersonating a muse

-Attempted premeditated murder (Victim: Two Children

-Possessing the body of a guy with 12 PHDs

-Possessing the body of a child

-Possessing the body of a Time Officer ("MY BODY IS A TEMPLE, CIPHER!!!")

-Premeditated murder (Victim: A (Time Lord) baby

-Explosive destruction of the minds of the audience

    -Illegal possession of Time Punch

-Possible manipulation of a race of Krakens in a KSP story to enact his inevitable return

    -Jaywalking

I can possibly pardon him for almost all of them, but that last one is unforgivable! WHO DOES THAT?!

I would say, given this evidence...

It appears we might have just stumbled onto a 2nd, and much, much older, brain-pod than Thompberry!

In fact, it confirms several things that we've already suspected. The Krakens were a pan-galactic species at war with the Saucer Aliens, which have time-space teleporting technology and likely built the Monoliths. The Krakens were wiped out a long time ago, but now exist as a purely informational race capable of overtaking human bodies. The methods are now known; they launch a directed mental attack on the original person, replace them with a substitute, and begin brainwashing others to serve them.

Krakens are evil octopus Time Lords that can possess people. Got it.

But in my universe, no... it's not an actual eye-bot. Although it's similar in some ways.... but also similar to... something/someone else.

Well, yes, it looks like an eye-bot. It also looks like Sputnik, but Sputnik obviously didn't have an AI.

My only other hypothesis is that it could be a core from Portal 2. I mean, the eye-bot is as close as you're going to get to that in Sims.

He's OK, but not fine... they did blood tests, we'll probably know the results Monday.

In a nutshell his pulse is much too slow. Only around 130 bpm. And at the Vet's office, no less, so it should have been around 200 or higher, according to the vet. And he just seems out of sorts... I'm not sure if there's anything we can do, or just make him as comfortable as possible.
