Kerbal Space Program 1.1 Hype Train Thread.
KerbonautInTraining replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
According to @NathanKell the thermal system now has very very little overhead, which will directly influence part count related lag. How much, I'm not sure, but it's an improvement. One of many, hopefully. -
As somebody who won't be able to participate I have no idea why some would think the beta shouldn't go out if it doesn't go out to everyone. When its made available it will: 1. Make the release come a week or so sooner, according to Squad staff. 2. Make the release higher quality because, no matter how you slice it, there will be people that find bugs in the pre-release that wouldn't have been found otherwise. As much as I would like to experiment with 1.1 early, I don't think the fact that others get 2 weeks of playing with a potentially broken game is that bad. As I've said before, no matter what happens 1.1 will be released in all its glory soon. Eventually we'll get over this whole thing and just play the game. (Sorry if my continuous posting is getting annoying)

If that were a viable option Squad would already be handing out Steam codes to anyone that asked. They can't do that anymore because the cut that Steam takes from your KSP purchase wouldn't be going to them but you'd still be using their services.
-
Worth mentioning (again) that updating through the KSP store isn't possible at all. When updates are released Squad rents extra severs to handle traffic for a few days. To rent them for two weeks would cost absurd amounts of money.

Well, damn. Now I'm just curious as to how playable the pre-releases will be. I've learned that people tend to understate things like this (how buggy it is) so.... this should be fun to watch unfold.

Other than high-profile mod creators you, me, and hundreds of others are out of luck for two weeks. Period. End of story. @Perry Apsis I'd recommend replacing "beer" with something forum-friendly

LENS FLARES!!!!
KerbonautInTraining replied to daniel l.'s topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I'm trying so hard not to burst out laughing right now. I have no idea why I find this so funny -
But that rule was there in 2014 and not now right? I'm pretty sure they can change them, but let's not make this into a legal debate. Also: "but the extent of the changes this time around is such that we feel we should open it up to everyone." I feel this isn't 100% truthful....

Clicking the pop-up notification doesn't mark it as read in the notification list (the bell in the top right corner)
-
I am 100% certain that people would figure it out and cause a massive uproar, much larger than the protests we're seeing now.
-
Sadly, we don't know for sure and neither does Squad. Experimentals will probably take 2-3 weeks followed by the open beta if I'm interpreting this whole thing properly. The open beta will mark T-2 weeks. E: When I press next (or prev, first, last, etc) this comment section freezes. Refreshing will load the requested page. Anyone else experiencing this?

Hopefully the salty-ness will die down Soon. I started off very upset (like many others) but I recently realized: That thing everyone's been hyped about for a year now? 64 bit? Physics optimization? Giant heat shields? Remember that? It's still coming, and it's nearly here. Nothing about that is changing. (As Kasper said it's probably coming ~1 week earlier than it otherwise would) Sure, there will be a few awkward handshakes in the days after release, but that 2 week gap will mean less and less over time until we forget about it.

I would think it's stable enough to get a general feel for the update (new UI) but I've been wrong in the past.

[1.2 - 1.4] Real Scale Boosters, 0.16 (2018-03-12)

Does "cryogenic" only apply to LH2/LOX engines? Last time I checked, LOX is pretty cold- 966 replies

Our (store users) logic is: Steam users = extension of the experimentals team Store users = for teh lolz Only problem is "teh lolz" would cost an enormous amount of money for very little benefit.

They'd still have to pay for the hosting that will get used when 1.1 drops. Their servers cannot handle hosting updates alone.

Future of KSP, still a game it used to be?
KerbonautInTraining replied to PhoenixCola's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I most definitely agree with the joint re-enforcement because it's a (relatively) easy thing to fix. Why the stock joints are so intentionally weak is beyond me. I'm hoping 1.1 will help, but chances are I'll still use KJR. -
I'm considering just signing out of the forums during the pre-releases. I want 1.1 to be a surprise. It won't be the same as if they'd actually released it to everyone at once but it'll be pretty close. Note that I completely and totally understand why Squad can't give pre-releases to the store users, which includes me.

how squad will handle 1.1 download traffic?
KerbonautInTraining replied to omelaw's topic in KSP1 Discussion
They won't. Only Steam users and high profile modders will get the pre-releases. For the actual update, Squad rents Amazon servers until theirs can handle the traffic. (This isn't an option for the pre-releases because $) -
Same here! That's what I've been trying to ask

Quote from the KSP FAQ page: The option to transfer KSP Store licenses to Steam is only available for those who bought KSP before it originally came out on Steam, March 20th 2013.

Team Fortress 2 is over 10 gigabytes and costs nothing... They were doing it before but not now, that's whats confusing me.
