Forcing DirectX11: 40% memory reduction!
KerbonautInTraining replied to Captain Sierra's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Gonna try this with my RO install, which has been leaking memory like crazy the past few days. -

I would very much enjoy an Atlas. The FASA/RO one is so fun to fly for some reason. Small...?- 966 replies

[1.0.5] Advanced Jet Engine v2.6.1 - Feb 1
KerbonautInTraining replied to camlost's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Sorry for the consistent posting, but is there a variable in the engine's cfg that can be changed to increase response rate, if so, which one? I changed "area" in the F-100's cfg up and down by an order of magnitude and it didn't appear to do anything. (time from idle to 100% was 20s) -
When somebody likes your post it should say "[user] liked your post in a topic..." As opposed to "[user] liked a post in a topic..."

High energy neutrons, it's what Kerbals crave! -
I got KSP just after 1.0. The first Mun mission I can remember led to me "discovering" asparagus staging. My lander had a single terrier and drop tanks. I realized I could shut off 2 and drop the other 2 first and gain insane amounts of delta v. I did use mechjeb to touch down but that's besides the point...

[1.0.5] Advanced Jet Engine v2.6.1 - Feb 1
KerbonautInTraining replied to camlost's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
So I just realized how hard it would be to implement "true" throttle response... The only sensible way I can think is to have a table of x and y values, x being throttle response speed or something along those lines and y being current thrust percent. Jet engines are more responsive near full thrust, which is why they have a "flight idle" and fuel saving "ground idle". But I'm sure you already know this. This wouldn't really work because you'd need accurate performance graphs to base it on.... ugh. Not to mention a complete re-write of the code. You mentioned you did math to find out how quickly the engines should respond, is this math done in or outside of the mod? Is there an engine spec in the cfg that effects throttle response alone (i.e. compressor mass) I like this mod a lot, but I'd prefer faster throttle response at the cost of realism for myself. What can I say? I love VTOL's. -
Yeah, 17 200 mph is nothing. They should be able to boost back to the pad IIRC.

Concrete and rebar -
If your friend were "caught" distributing the game to anyone they would be charged with piracy, if I'm not mistaken. While there is a 0.0001% chance either of you would be charged, I don't think it's really worth it. I know it's not morally or logically piracy but the law doesn't usually care about that.

That would be piracy.

Crap, this belongs in tech support doesn't it? Today is not my day... What I'm asking is if my gameplay footage, which is 1600 x 1200, can be changed (or if it needs to be changed) to appear "normal" on a 16:9 monitor. Or if I need to change my in game resolution to fit a 16:9 monitor. I feel like I'm not making any sense right now, which is never good.
-
My monitor has a resolution of 1600 x 1200. The aspect ratio is 4:3, which isn't the standard for YouTube, it would seem. Here's an example of what I'm talking about: When not in full screen the image has bars to the left and right. I'm pretty sure they're there if you're using a 16:9 monitor and full screen. Is this normal? I usually use Win. Move maker to edit videos. Is there a setting I can change there? I'd rather not lower the vertical resolution if it can be avoided.

So I just gained a new appreciation for this series. I recently spent the better part of, what, six hours editing a video. It's a simple SSTO mission to Duna, and the original gameplay footage added up to over an hour. I managed to edit it down to five and a half minutes, barely. I would actually rip my hair out if I finished a video only to be stopped by false copyright claims. Edit: Ofc, the exact same thing happened to me. It identified a song called "pyramid". That's the only info given. No link to the song, no artist name. Thanks YouTube!

None in the devnotes, at least. One more little thing to look forward to! -
It's nearly a vacuum so the plume expands to many tens of meters before hitting the stage. I'd imagine it's nothing compared to Max-Q or re-entry.

Providing the open beta to store users is like resurrecting the Apollo program. 1. It's damn near impossible 2. Lots of work for very little benifit 3. It would SoonTM be followed by a better, more solid mission/update 4. The biggest reason behind it is to silence a small minority 5. Everyone would like to see it done (especially me) 6. It would use up NASA/Squad's resources that could go to more important things The list goes on.

Heh, I'm subscribed to Red. Small world, I guess.

[1.0.5] Advanced Jet Engine v2.6.1 - Feb 1
KerbonautInTraining replied to camlost's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Sorry for being harsh. The throttle response was the main thing I was looking for. I agree, reverse thrust in flight = bad time. Do you usually just shut the engines down with an action group when descending? -
[1.0.5] Advanced Jet Engine v2.6.1 - Feb 1

After playing with this mod for a few minutes, I think this video is very relevant. Fighter jet engines do not take the same amount of time to spool as a 777's GE-90s. I skimmed through some of the above discussion but evidently it's talking about large turbofans. I'm sorry if there's a reason some of the engines aren't like this, but I think it's kind of a glaring oversight regardless. Also, some of the engines idle at... 20% thrust? What?
