Teleportation/Moveable Consciousnesses
More Boosters replied to TronX33's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Precisely, so disassembling yourself, storing yourself as data and reconstructing somewhere else doesn't result in you being teleported, it results in a copy of yourself created elsewhere. Thanks for making my point for me. -
Does anyone else feel the same way I do?

That looks really cool, great job man! I'm glad it worked out. -
I must admit to downloading this mod far later than I should have, but I must say, it makes so much sense! Things don't fall apart easily and vertical building is no longer a nightmare; this mod really improves the quality of life. For those who don't know it's a mod strengthens the connection between any two parts, and that makes tall rockets not fall apart. I mean look at real life! Rockets are built vertically, you don't see huge clusters of boosters on the sides (tops 2) and rightly so, that adds more drag. Of course you shouldn't be able to go too tall, but KSP rocket height is well within reason; they should not collapse when the infrastructure is there. I think the joint strength in this mod should be made stock. What do you think?

Teleportation/Moveable Consciousnesses
More Boosters replied to TronX33's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Yes but is the qualia yours? Take for instance the enter-a-vat-and-a-copy-rolls-out kind of cloning in sci-fi,no growth involved. It's still an exact copy of you. Then you die. Is your clone still you? Even if it is, does it still not lack your point of view to the world? While you're both alive, do you have two bodies and two points of view? Do you get to just jump through points of view? -
Teleportation/Moveable Consciousnesses
More Boosters replied to TronX33's topic in Science & Spaceflight
This is one of the most fundamental questions regarding teleportation, is qualia preserved? I believe it's not a valid scientific question, for now, to begin with as many established theories say that it is impossible. It's sort of like asking what if I take something that can never be moved but move it. Something that can never be moved doesn't exist (or simply not discovered yet) so how can we know what would happen if we were to move it? Even if it was possible, I'd say it is not preserved by the copy-and-reassemble method. But it wouldn't matter. The original consciousness that was you would no longer exist, but your personality, aspirations, dreams, capabilities, everything relevant basically would live on. The new you would work just the same and your current consciousness would be akin to the body cells that die and get replaced; you're gone but nothing changes. However I do think you would still be you if we somehow figured out to freeze people to absolute zero without killing them, making the particles completely stationary and then somehow translated them to a different point in space. Again, it's not even a hypothesis and I'm not even an expert on any of this so I really doubt this topic is something we can discuss beyond a philosophical level. -
Nah, the KSP soundtrack fits just fine. Feel free to add more. That's of course, just my opinion. And the premise looks very interesting, I'm looking forward to this. Edit: A passing rogue has shefted eve's orbit into a 45 degree inclination with a very heavy eccentricity. Also the oceans of lava don't seem to help its appearance. Eve no longer has a atmosphere. though it does seem a little is left. Oh snap! I've been thinking about the exact same thing this week! In fact, earlier today I sent an e-mail to XKCD for them to make a what-if scenario of this happening to Venus! How will you change Eve? Will you give it a dry ice surface? I mean it would take a lot of time for that atmosphere to radiate the heat but you did say millions of years. Edit 2: Derp you mentioned exactly how.

Launch Vehicle Optimization Test Results
More Boosters replied to OhioBob's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Kickbacks are downright horrible, I can't quite put my finger on what's wrong with them but there's no way they're strong enough to be the last SRBs you unlock. Guess it's thrust. They lack thrust. I'd rather get a good 2.0 TWR with 800 m/s Delta-V than be forced to place 4+ Kickbacks and have extra Delta-V I don't want just to reach the TWR required. -

Woah! What kind of system requires that much hardware just to get to the Mun? And RSS is even harder than x6.4 no? I mean, if you need modded 7.5m stacks just to get there without even being able to come back, what good are any of the other engines?

Can we talk about slush hydrogen please? Why exactly did they give up on it? Too hard to keep the thing at those conditions?

You should also consider making one of the two alternate-cycle engines use Cryogenic Fuel.- 1,520 replies

[1.12.x] Mk2 Expansion v1.9.1 [update 10/5/21]
More Boosters replied to SuicidalInsanity's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Hello, downloaded this and loving it so far, the part diversity is crazy! If I may I have a few suggestions. 1. You could make Roentgen not consume uranium and just consume intake air. This is how Porkjet's Atomic Age handled it, it is less baggage and less UI clutter. Simple, effective. 2. An actual tri-coupler in a 2 down 1 up pattern with 3 x 1.25 would be a great addition. Possibly a late-game structural node unlock. 3. A cryogenic Mk2 engine would be great! InterstellarFuelSwitch already allows LH2/LOX setups and Near Future Propulsion has dedicated hydrogen tanks. 4. A shorter Mk2 - 2.5m adapter would help quite a bit; the stock one is rather oversized. Edit: I should also point out that one of the parts mentions an Icarus Airspace; I think that was meant to be Insanity. Something about outrage against C7 and Icarus taking the initiative.- 1,520 replies

Here's how it goes for me: 1. See really cool and imaginative things done by other people. 2. Get inspired. 3. Get in game, build stuff. 4a. End up with generic rocket #3141243 similar in most ways to the rocket that came before it. 4b. OR very rarely, make something that looks decent but doesn't work at all. Never something that is actually "wow" material 5. Get bored by how bland KSP is when it's you that is bland. Repeat.

Yes, I noticed that and I'm familiar with phase diagrams. I should have been more descriptive, I don't doubt the existence of the triple point (wut?), I simply never came across the notion of using it as rocket fuel before.
-
I came across slush hydrogen on Wikipedia but the page is hardly descriptive. Can anyone here share how it would actually work out as a rocket fuel? Googling "slush hydrogen as a rocket fuel" gives the same Wikipedia page as the first result so I'm not sure if it isn't something someone pulled out of their hat.

Cannot Auto-Warp So Far
More Boosters replied to dresoccer4's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
You can auto warp to a second SoI, but you can't autowarp to a third SoI. That's what so far means. -

Hah, nice pun. Cocktails could be called Boosters for that quick energy boost.

For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread

There's already such a mod called Kerbal Galaxy. Also this isn't a science question.
