  1. I don't think he intended to return to begin with. Look at those tiny RCS thrusters.
  2. Cherish it, you'll never orbit for the first time again.
  3. I'd like to hear more on that as I've been unable to make a craft that actually makes sensible use of the Nuclear Lightbulb at its 20 something tonnes of mass on top of the cost. LANTERN is by far my favorite engine in KSP among the mods I've tried though.
  4. I see no reason for missiles to exist in the context of space combat; or any kind of ballistic weaponry when lasers and other energy weapons strike the target with (almost) zero delay. Lasers get an even bigger advantage in that there is no atmosphere to drastically reduce their power in space, and nuclear weapons that aren't shaped to strike in one direction won't do much with no atmosphere to push around anyway. Projectiles at relativistic velocities would also make sense as I would expect space combat to be all about range and precision where response time is the deciding factor. As for ships, well, how many giant aircraft do you see? The reason ships are so large is that they float over water which is a very generous medium in that it allows good movement (water-based motors are more efficient as you'd note), a strategic advantage due to its placement but also the buoyant force that allows you to go nuts with anything as long as you watch your density. Space is a lot more similar to air than it is to seas where spacecraft are at the mercy of the rocket equation (which generally favors smaller craft) and are in far bigger trouble in case of hull breach. With that in mind, I'd foresee small fighters; perhaps unmanned, equipped with powerful laser weaponry or others that can engage at long range with very little delay. If however the ubiquitous energy shields are somehow developed in the real world then maybe we could see other sorts of weaponry but I can't foresee anything that would manage not being shot down while somehow compensating for not being practically instant in its response.
  5. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WeaponizedExhaust The Kzinti Lesson, had to be said.
  6. Though most of the robot's mass would be the containers for the samples and various space-grade equipment that you'd probably want to recover, and you're still carrying the robot during launch which is where you shed most of your mass and Delta-V.
  7. So WHAT? The guy clearly had something to add to the thread. There existed a thread on something he wanted to talk about. So let him talk about it. And don't post cliched pictures that come across as just being rude.
  8. How are you so sure? It's only 2015 yet.
  9. Uhh, Tylo is pretty large, even larger than Kerbin, so I take it that you're not scaling it up to the real world scale. I mean, Kerbol apparently couldn't even be a sun in real life, so taking the KSP values as they are is a bit odd. I meant to ask for a planet like Tylo, I believe the entire system is scaled by a factor of 1/10 so that should be considered.
  10. Bump as it seems to have been lost in the page transition.
  11. Hey, you know the Sentinel from the mod, well, I wonder if multiple sentinels on the same craft will act like separete Sentinels, making detection quicker, or if I need to make a mothership to dispense these little buggers. Oh and, how do you get that thing to between Moho and Sun without spending the entire observable universe in fuel?
  12. You're clearly lifting too light for what you can do.
  13. How come a planet like Tylo doesn't have an atmosphere? It is very large and the smaller Laythe nearby has not only an oxygen atmosphere but entire seas and all that, and in my limited knowledge it would have attracted the gasses to form an atmosphere unless it was stripped away from the sun but it's also very far away from the sun, and also in my limited knowledge larger planets would cool down slower, thus losing their magnetic field later, so what gives?
  14. Well, are you implying that the 9/11 attacks were orchestrated by another state and were a military operation? Also @jwenting https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falklands_War
  15. What do you mean with throttling the booster? The initial adjustment?
  16. More like general add-on affairs. OP if this doesn't exist you can look up a tutorial.
  17. Yes, I meant to ask if planets could survive such events; supernovas. I also wondered about orbital velocities closer to the star as the remnant is much denser, meaning you could get closer, correct?
  18. Is it possible to have a neutron star system with the satellites all in stable orbits? If so what would such a planet look like, how would it differ from your everyday good old yellow generic MS star system, and how would the satellites be affected? What would be the constraints for planets if there are to be any unique ones? What would the star look like to an observer that stands on the surface of a satellite? Pushing it further, is it possible to have a habitable planet around a neutron star?
  19. KSP on my smartphone plz. Oh and powerdered KSP and liquid KSP. Can't stop no more.
  20. Love it. (You must spread some reputation around before giving it to Sharpy again)
  21. Yeah but where do you go for picnics? You shouldn't take from this that I disagree with scientific outposts on asteroids but people need space (pun not intended) man. Like, give the average Joe a reason to leave Earth. This is obviously very long term and Mars is the best candidate by far for a permanent and habitable planet so I wanted to talk about when and how we could start.
  22. I follow this train of thought but I don't believe justidutch recommended going *now* but rather being more enthusiastic; like funding it more and trying to come up with a solid plan. Can someone here enlighten us on how Mars could be terraformed over a long time span? Because if that is possible even if remotely so with our current technology we should start soon.
  23. Wouldn't it take time to make Mars or anywhere else habitable without extensive life support measures? Doesn't that mean we should start thinking about long-term unmanned methods of making Mars habitable? Or is that just a pipe dream and will the first human settlements have to start in dome bases rather than a terraformed Mars? Because I don't think you can make an asteroid habitable without turning it into a space station.
  24. Yeah okay I can see why Ike and Mun are boring but from what I hear Dres has canyons, rifts and it has an asteroid belt. My first and only ship to go to Dres only managed to fly by with not enough dV to slow down, and it was night time at Dres so I couldn't make anything out, but it still sounds like an interesting spot. Once I have the technology I believe I will build a Dres colony that can produce rockets with the USI Kolonization mod as it would be a great staging area for missions to outer planets (quite a few mods add planets that are quite far away) and I could access asteroids that are at orbital speed whenever I wanted so I really don't get what's so bad about Dres. Or is it that Dres is gray? You've got a problem with gray celestial bodies? Is that it? Shame on you.
