  1. Read all of this, but I can't say I would be confident to summarize it if I were asked. Interesting stuff though, thought this place really needed more attention.
  2. Streetwind referred to that by name at his post at the top of this page.
  3. Interesting, thanks. I believe it would have to be very close for that to happen, but the in game Minmus is far away.
  4. I like to think Kerbals don't mind radiation as it makes them glow a healthy green.
  5. Hey, I know that SFRs are mostly used for take off with few examples of vacuum use, but I had an idea for a pretty gamey but still sensible (from a gameplay perspective) SRB for KSP that basically has high vacuum ISP, modest thrust, immodest cost, and perhaps an alternative mode that allows it to burn half as fast. I'm thinking about a solid fueled engine that is meant to be used for injection burns, so is there any feasibility in such an engine? If there is, what would it look like? If it's not feasible, how close can you get to a proper vacuum SRB with a good ISP?
  6. While the first ten rides would be thrilling, this makes no economical sense and more importantly it doesn't really solve any important problems. I would rather if development budgets went to making all classes more comfortable, the overall flight even more secure and failproof especially as a result of human error and shorter time between landing and the next departure. I fly often and I realized in most cases I spend at least half as much time at the airport as I do on the flight. When going abroad this doesn't apply but you still jump through a lot of hoops.
  7. I'm not sure it can reasonably be used anywhere with that TWR. It's a perpetuum mobile that seems to be only good for flying at Eve.
  8. Shun the nonbeliever! @OP Really nice but I suggest white fuel lines from the Colorful Fuel Lines mod.
  9. Which I believe is an important step forward.
  10. A poster above gave me a very good idea. A highly inclined orbit would do wonders, so you REALLY know how to plane change. You may even have to find out about bi-elliptical transfers so you can do an easier plane change along the way. It makes perfect sense! And then the extra science and low gravity is warranted. That would have to be at least 45 degrees, actually make it rotate the other way! Maybe it could also wiggle up and down randomly too. Or maybe not.
  11. +rep certainly, would you consider doing this for the Outer Planets mod as well? They added quite a few.
  12. Hey. Let's just that say that, in this day and age, we have the means and technology to go to any major celestial body in our solar system and set up a base that would construct rockets mostly from mined materials from the body. These rockets would then be used to explore other bodies within or without the Solar System. A lot would still come from Earth, so the travel time back also would matter, but the base would be mostly self sufficient. Where should such a base be and what would spacecraft built to be launched from that planet look like? Please don't just jump to Moon; the base is mostly self sufficient.
  13. I wasn't serious about moving Minmus. I simply wanted to bring attention to the problem that there isn't much reason to go to the Mun and Minmus is better in almost every way. I wanted to convey that in a satirical manner but I guess it wasn't clear enough.
  14. Until the first time they land on Minmus; then they realize how much better of a target in every way it is and then they exploit it to hell and back in subsequent saves while Mun is visited once for the mission. This is almost insulting, plane changes and radial burns are one of the first things mentioned in the orbiting tutorial. Newbies won't know to eyeball the Mun without maneuver nodes, and if they can use Maneuver nodes properly enough to get an encounter they can also do the plane change. No, not that. Science is adjustable and it's a SP game so it's the player's choice to set his pace, but I do think it should be lower than Mun. Even in that case, it will be more profitable since you can do multiple biome hops. I just think that home system celestial bodies shouldn't be so easy to get to; a proof for my case is many people talking about how they never really left Kerbin SoI despite having played for some time, or those who finish the tech tree within it. Mun has fairly balanced Delta-V requirements and science returns, and it feels wrong for me to go to Minmus before going to Mun so I always go to Mun first in a new career save, and the science boost on top of challenging myself to build an even cheaper and smaller craft than the last time is exciting. Mun returns are so much more suspenseful and even a landing can cut it very close. Your orbital speed is much higher on Mun, which is precisely what every home system celestial body requires in my opinion. Gilly, Pol and Bop wouldn't feel so lame then too for people; they abuse Minmus so much it's SSDD when they go there.
  15. Far easier to land on and return from, also more science. Something is clearly off here. Edit: Minmus is training wheels, the only comparable body is Gilly and you don't learn anything about landing on a real celestial body. Not to mention all the people gloating about how they filled the tech tree out at Minmus with 5 MPLs and 10 year time warp.
  16. How is it a little harder? Unless you just wanted to do a flyby, there's no situation in which a trip to Minmus takes more Delta-V than Mun. Far easier to land on and return from, also more science. Something is clearly off here.
  17. Admit it the only reason Minmus is "less boring" is that it's much easier to get to, gives far more science, is far easier to return from and it actually allows more than one biome hop before a reasonably sized craft ends up with less Delta-V than is required. Oh and it's minty.
  18. Minmus totally steals Mun's thunder.
  19. Hullo, two questions: 1. Is this compatible with the Outer Planets mod? 2. By save-breaking, do you mean that it won't store any input from earlier releases, or that I would need to re-start my save file?
