[1.12.x] Mk2 Expansion v1.9.1 [update 10/5/21]
More Boosters replied to SuicidalInsanity's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Did you make up your mind on the *real* tricoupler? Also some guy in my other thread mentioned a 2.5m to 2 x mk2 adapter; that might be pretty cool too.- 1,520 replies

Feel free to make some simple part requests

SuicidalInsanity is making a MK2 parts pack with huge variety and I actually asked him about the first one before. He also posted in this thread and I guess he is your best bet. Near Future Construction has trusses like you mentioned. -
Feel free to make some simple part requests

These are indeed good ideas and are relatively straightforward but I believe Modular Rocket Systems has them covered. -
Go to Dres. High energy orbit, shallow gravity well, asteroid spawns. It's also refreshingly grey.

Water is a great solvent and a life can have a lot different while having water as a common dependency. Also the conditions on Mars and Venus are drastically different from here on Earth, how are you so sure it would be similar? Not that I think life exists on either planet anyway. Maybe if some bacteria survived on rovers and suddenly started eating dirt and getting by with it, heh.
-
The asteroid one seems most viable to me as the only business case I can think of for going to space seems to be asteroid mining and any step towards that is probably better for the grand scheme of things than a purely scientific mission if we are to think a bit realistically.

What will you do differently in your next career?

Play with KSP X6.4! I could normally get to most places in vanilla (not return from Moho but hey!) but now I just built a ridiculous rocket of 1.25m parts just to get to orbit and I am trying right now! Thank Kerbol we have KJR. Edit: Haha fell short! 5 km/s orbital speed was not enough at all! I love this mod. -
[1.12.x] Mk2 Expansion v1.9.1 [update 10/5/21]
More Boosters replied to SuicidalInsanity's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Thanks for the quick update regarding the short Mk-2 adapter. I have some more ideas on top of the Mk2 to 3 x 1.25 tricoupler I mentioned earlier: 1. Mk2 Alcubierre Drive, working like the one in RoverDude's mod. Probably shouldn't have such a large ring though, in interest of aerodynamics. 2. Mk2 Solid Rocket Booster that can be stacked with the other Mk 2 engines using the decoupler. Spacecraft aren't just SSTOs after all. 3. A Mk2 high thrust high TWR average ISP lift engine for vertically launched Mk2 craft. Very high gimbal range to allow compensating for misaligned center of mass.- 1,520 replies

Or set ideas maybe? A new form factor or size? Anyway, I am a modeller and I would like to get into KSP modding. Baby steps, would like to do simple things like fuel tanks, adapters, batteries etc. before getting into engines, though solid rocket engines seem to be pretty easy to make. Let me know if you have any bite-sized ideas you have in mind.

parts [1.12.x] 'Project Orion' Nuclear Pulse Engine
More Boosters replied to RoverDude's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I believe the resource is already transferable manually so just dock and place the pulse cartridges. If you mean ISRU however it does sound unreasonable but it might be interesting to have them manufacturable (especially considering the cost unless I didn't look correctly and that was just the engine cost) at UKS colonies. -
Macross Missile Spam -> The only way to go
More Boosters replied to SomeGuy12's topic in Science & Spaceflight
In space, unless some countermeasures are made (which they will be made, eventually) by the time space warfare becomes a thing, missiles will be wasted space and mass that could be used for lasers. -
This is simpler than you think if you're ignoring all the practical problems. Just take the highest ISP engines available to us (cryogenic LH2/LOX), and then have multiple stages of that.

Tried for a bit but couldn't get an Orion-equipped ship to remain stable upon takeoff, it swerves. Any tips? -
Install procedure: 1.) AVP Interstellar V2 (can be skipped if you dont care about the visuals or your pc has trouble with it) 2.) OPM and 64K, do overwrite everything that comes from OPM, do not copy the "BoulderCo" folder from 64k however. 3.) Install the compatibility configs, overwriting everything when asked. If you skipped AVP, just leave out the "BoulderCo" folder. What works: -Sizes, adjusted densities, adjusted orbits -Rings, clouds (sort of), most of the visual stuff from AVP:I, including lightning for Tekto -Solar panels (un-)powered by 64k, RT should also work up to Neidon with the proper dish. Known Issues: -Hale has Gilly's colormap when viewed from close up outside of Scaledspace, but since this happens on the "stock" OPM as well, I did not really bother trying to fix it for now. -Not all parts of AVP work as desired with rescales, and the nonexistent documentation of EVE does not make anything easier, I did try to fix what I could though. What is especially noticeable is massive z-fighting on the gas giants - this is nothing that can be easily remedied by configs I am afraid. If its too bad for you, use Alt+N to open the EVE gui and remove cloud layers until you like it. Do note that there were changes to orbits and radii to several planetary bodies from the last update, so please back up your 200 hour career game before finding out whether this config wrecks havoc on it or not. Download Says link stopped working can we have an update?

I don't get this. In KSP these cryogenic engines are very rarely more efficient than LF/LOX engines, usually only good for upper stages (ironic as cryogenics are mostly used at lower stages in real life) and that's because it keeps the upper stages lighter. Am I missing something? Because if what you say is true and these cryos are more effective than in real life, then how come cryogenic engines are considered better if more expensive?

Look at all these members of a 10.000 year old civilization so sure that something not possible for them is not possible, sensible, or practical in way, shape, or form, under any possible circumstance in the mind bogglingly large universe. Seriously. I'm not saying think about it and waste time looking for Dyson spheres, but why are you so sure that something in the realm of fiction here was not done elsewhere. That's dogmatic. Don't be like that, don't be that sure of anything. And please, don't twist what I just said into something about religion. In fact let me do it before you do. You can't be sure about the existence of any number of deities, you can only reach your own conclusions looking at the available evidence. To me it doesn't seem like a deity, at least in the way mainstream religions describe, exists. On a similar note, don't be so sure that such structures don't exist just because the chances are infinitesimally small. You lose nothing by just stating that they probably don't exist. Otherwise you'll just feel silly if, at a ridiculously low chance, that we come across a power station around a star that was apparently worth building to hyper advanced aliens who don't have the same problems we do.
-
That's a bit harsh. How can you be so sure? Whether it's worth speculating about is another matter though, I mean it would be a happy coincidence if we somehow came across one but that's it. Not worth talking about until then.
-
Wouldn't a dyson sphere absorb most of the energy and thus make a star even harder to see?

If you can do such a thing you can probably iron out any such flaws too. So meh. -
Teleportation/Moveable Consciousnesses

Whether or not it bothers you is irrelevant. You're dead. Gone. It's just a copy of you now. If you're okay with getting destroyed as long as a copy of yourself exists in the world, that's fine but it doesn't change that you yourself will be gone. -
Tourist would like to go on a suborbital flight of the Sun
More Boosters replied to CorBlimey's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Well you can save quite a bit on DV by throwing yourself to a very high apoapsis and then burning retrograde there to make your orbit eliptical. You can save further DV by repeatedly getting gravity assists from Kerbin or getting a single well placed one from Eve (you'll need that periapsis to get suborbital anyways) if time isn't a factor.
