We should just strap a newer, larger shuttle to the back of another, larger fuel tank, and the SRB's be replaced with Falcon Heavy boosters. The fuel tank is discarded, the shuttle oes on to perform orbital stuff, and the Falcon Heavy rockets fly back to base. They're a billion billion billion percent cooler. And are easy to recover.
