My aortic valve has two flaps, not three.

Mine is actually invisible.

It's going to Jool, right?

totm aug 2023 What funny/interesting thing happened in your life today?
cubinator replied to Ultimate Steve's topic in The Lounge
I went to Devil's Tower today! A monstrous prominence. -
Good to know they're trying to make sure they're not invasive to the night view.
-
Yes, I've thought of that too. If successful, these things will be there all the time. You'll have to go to the Moon for a clear sky.
-
I'll be watching the sky tonight from the Badlands in SD, maybe I can send you a ping if I see them? I'm a little ahead of you. Edit: Actually I won't be internet-connected because this constellation isn't online yet and I don't have service around here. Nevermind.

It's so crazy that I've seen a meteor hit the Moon.
-
They're in darkness while they pass over N. America, still. Next time, maybe.
-
That's pretty close, but they're in darkness so no chance of seeing them on this pass.
-
If you're in the US, keep an eye out for these guys in the evening these next few days. They should be visible. Probably not tonight, though - it's too late, the sun is too far out of the way. If this test goes well, we should see many more launches like this, though, and might get to see clusters of sats just after launching! I think the redundancy factor in making these sats cheap and en masse makes up for that.

Stream is up!

Yep. Engineers, scientists, everybody has to put their results out somewhere, to communicate with superiors, others on the team, and the outside world.
-
@IonStorm What's the scale on each image? Might help distinguishing what to call a 'rock' vs. a 'boulder'.

Thread to discuss positive things in a general manner
cubinator replied to GearsNSuch's topic in The Lounge
Sure, not much to tell yet but lots of training/shadowing. I got briefed on how to operate the planetarium, which has a very high quality projection system and runs a software that's a lot like Space Engine, but more point-and-click to control and a little less visually realistic. (I still want to try to get permission to actually install Space Engine on it... Pretty sure this one doesn't do procedurally generated exoplanets in complete detail.) I'll be doing museum tours (mostly with kids) and planetarium shows, among other events and generally being helpful and educational. -

Fictional aliens must be different than humans
cubinator replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Conversation. An alien race might communicate with each other by warming up different parts of their body in certain patterns. This is something we literally cannot do ourselves, and so finding a common means of communication would not involve speech at all. -
