They likely have pressure sensors inside the engines. If one part was supposed to have a high pressure, and then suddenly shifted to ambient or low pressure, that would indicate that a hole has developed. This data would be part of the telemetry transmitted during flight.

It's about the same aspect ratio as Superheavy, measured on the Mk1 eyeball

One of my teammates suggested today that if we market it as "SPACE FOOD!" everyone will be all over it, and I'm pretty sure they're right.
-
And, see, you're totally without logical reason for that! The species used for farming (Dubia, for instance) are not the kind which infest human homes, they are just as fine to eat, and taste just like you might expect any other bug to. I don't mean to rag on you, it's something important for me to understand. Would you eat something that had been made from farmed Dubia roach powder - a tortilla, cookie, or otherwise?
-
Regarding insects - Yes, they're as good a choice as you'll get for Martian animal protein. You can farm them without much hassle in a small space, and to prepare them all you need to do is freeze them and dry them. Then you can powder them if you want to use as a flour. They eat pretty much the same stuff we will be growing on Mars anyway, and can be supplemented with dry food from Earth on early missions. Roaches are actually better than crickets in every way except cultural acceptance. A space-worthy device capable of farming them is currently in design.

Mars Rover Perseverance Discussion Thread

Some of those spacecraft "bits" have landed near places of geologic interest that might be near the rover's path...I wonder if they'd be able to pay a visit to the parachute and descent stage, or the heat shield. (Skycrane seems to be somewhat in the middle of some dunes, so probably not worth the risk.) -

The uplook camera should be able to capture some REAL Martian skies sometime... -
It's also worth noting that once you get to space, you can see the sky to the fullest as long as you have a shade to block the brighter objects. Of course, that's harder if there are thousands of enormous torch ships flying about, but light pollution doesn't spread away from direct line of sight like it does on Earth.

And the scientist who unveiled it was speaking into an identical microphone to demonstrate that it records natural sound. Indeed, if you tried to listen to it on Mars with your bare ears you would mostly just feel pain in your ears, but you might hear and feel a little whoosh against your spacesuit if you were wearing proper Martian attire. I am curious how well sound is transmitted through the air. Will we be able to hear the helicopter take flight? Could you understand another astronaut speaking to you without their transmitter operating? What does a rocket engine sound like from a distance? -

They will see if they can get a video. -

They said in the presser today that they thought it was probably some kind of issue between the device that digitized the analog signal and the computer. I don't know if that means they can't scrap the sound back together or if it just didn't save to the computer. -
Seconded! I like that idea. With water, you can also convert it to an aquarium with ease. So you can watch the Mars-sharks swimming above you, and get food, protection, and peace of mind all in one shot. Wonder where they'd get any of that water, though...It's not easy to dig it up and most will have to go into rocket fuel rather than living areas.

Objective: Is a 100% Radiation Proof Spacesuit Possible?
cubinator replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Radiation occasionally just teleports through a wall if it doesn't feel like respecting your boundaries today. -

The scientists on the panel have expressed their acknowledgement of this potential, and that they might include a mic as standard equipment on future robots.
