[1.4.x] Porkjet's Legacy and How to Integrate It
Star-Eagle replied to Kerbal101's topic in KSP1 Tutorials
Hi everyone I've tried to install this mod in 1.4 and while the parts seem to work ok I can't seem to switch between the different engine types. Could anyone tell me which files/folders I need to move to the KSP gamedata folder? -
Hi everyone About a year ago I asked for some help on this thread in selecting a "new" refurbished laptop. Based of the info and recomendations you (collective you that is) gave along with price and availability I ended up getting a Lenovo L430 with a i5 CPU. In the time I've had it has lived up to my expectations but in the last month several things have broken/gone wrong with it and the price of the replacement parts would be close to the original price I paid for it. This isn't intended to be an accusation towards anyone, just a statement about why I'm looking for a new laptop. It would probably last quite a while longer for my needs if it was repaired but one of the things that have gone is the plastic case itself, as soon as it had one crack it seemed to get the rest very quickly. This, plus the price of the other parts has made me look at other laptops instead. The main one I've been considering getting is a HP Elitebook 8470p as I've found several on ebay.co.uk in my price range with similar spec to my L430 and the parts are more reasonably priced (it also seems to be easier to repair from the youtube videos I've seen). The questions I've got for you all are as follows. 1 Is this laptop capable of running KSP? 2 Is it a decent laptop in general? 3 Are there any limitations on upgrading the RAM? 16 GB is the max stated but some people have said this is only on the i7 models. 4 The seller on ebay with the best deal that I've found so far has a few models avalable, including one with an i5 3320m and dedicated graphics. Would it be worth getting the dedicated graphics model as the prices aren't that different or isn't worth bothering with? Many thanks guys.

Mk3 Expansion - [KSP 1.12x] Version 1.6 [10/5/21]
Star-Eagle replied to SuicidalInsanity's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
@VenDei I can't comment on the other parts you've mocked up but Sam Hall's Kerbonov Kn-2 Cockpit Module mod has a inverted mk2 - 1.25m cockpit and cargobay that might suite your needs. The mod was updated to KSP 1.2.2 but I don't know if its been updated for KSP 1.3 so I would proceed with care. Hope this helps- 863 replies

Hi everyone. I've noticed something with the RBI inverting track, in scale 1 the max drive speed is shown as 47 m/s but a max safe speed of only 29 m/s. Any time I try using it without increasing the gear ratio to at least 1.5 or 1.75 it always breaks due to over stressing. Could anyone tell me if this is how it's supposed to be or if there's some kind of problem? Thanks

Hi Shadowmage Thanks for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate getting the info from the source. The lack of steering isn't a big deal for me at the moument, I'm something of a casual KSP player right now so don't worry about. That said I'll see about the issue/feedback ticket thing if its of any help, I just don't want to be the person who dumps to much on the dev and causes them to drop the mod. Anyway many, many thanks for taking the time to keep this great mod going even if it seems like a thankless task.

Hi guys I've just installed Kerbal Foundries on a fresh copy of KSP and I've noticed something with the ajustable landing gear. I tried to use them to make a compact rover but if the strut angle is moved even 0.5 from the centre or 0 position they won't steer at all, could any one please confirm if this is an intended feature or something from installing the mod incorrectly. Thanks

Hi Blackheart I haven't used used your mod yet but i like what I've seen on the thread so far and will be installing it as soon as I get my new computer set up. I do have two suggestions that you might find useful. 1: Seaplane parts, if your still looking to attach them to the bottom of the mk3 parts you might want to take a look at the Shuttle lifting body system in the Cormorant Aeronology mod by Pak, they seem to attach in the same way you were describing. 2: Swing engine parts, I was originally considering asking if you could add a jet engine to the mod but then I thought it might be better if you could make a structural part with attachment nodes on the front and rear so that players could put on engines and intakes of their choice. Also do you think it would be feasible to make a mk0/0.625m equivelent? I just hope these suggestions are of some help.

@Harry Rhodan Thanks for the info and recommendations, those are the two main models I've been looking at so its nice to know I'm not picking lemons! Is there any real difference between the thinkpad 430 and the 420 or the 410? Their just a little bit easier to find over here than the 430. PS is your choice of forum name in anyway related to Perry Rhodan of the sci-fi book series?

legoclone09 Thanks for taking the time to look at those laptops for me, the second one is a model I was looking at myself. I do have three other questions for either you or anyone else on the forum. 1) Would it be better for someone to go with a more recent (say 3rd or 4th gen) i5 processor over an older (say 1st or 2nd) i7 processor or would it depend on the specific models? 2) Is it practical to upgrade a dedicated graphics card on a laptop? I've seen some things online that say it is possible but I haven't seen much on the practical, nuts and bolts side of things. 3) Would it be better to go with a APU as with the first laptop you linked to or a machine with a separate graphics card even if its an older model? I really appreciate all the help in getting all this straightened out, I'm starting to feel like not as likely to make a bad choice.
-
legoclone09 To answer your questions in reverse order; 1 Yes it does need to be a laptop. I don't mean for that to come across snaky I just have limited space for a computer desk so a desktop machine is out of the question. 2 Given how urgently I need to replace my current laptop due to the damage I mentioned earlier I can stretch to about £200-£250 at most at the moment. I would prefer to get any cheap laptop for now and save up for a better machine but I can't really justify getting to machines like that.

Hi guys Thanks for all the replies and info. I'm sorry if my question stirred up the proverbial hornets nest but I really need to get a new computer. My current one had a large heavy box dropped on it from the the top of a bookcase thanks to my cat and is working intermittently at best. Since I'm not a big games player these days and I have a limited budget I don't see a problem with getting an older or basic model laptop.
-
I've been getting a bit confused with which Nvidia cards you where referring to, any chance you could elaborate on the full model name please? Thanks
-
@gargamel No problems mate, I just wish I could afford something that powerful to run my games! @Stewcumber Thank you very much for the info, a quick look turned up a few machines in my price range on ebay so I will be getting myself a "new" computer soon.
-
Thanks gargamel, I think one of those computers could just about handle a larger ship in KSP.
-
Hi folks I'm looking for a new laptop but I'm a bit confused by the modern computer specs so I'm hopping someone here can help me out in narrowing down the spec for a suitable machine for KSP. I don't want something that can handle a 2000+ part ship at 60 fps on the highest settings, just a reasonable sized ship on the low to mid settings. I don't have a budget in mind but I'm probably going to be looking at a refurbished computer. Many thanks. Mods, I don't know if this is the right place for this thread if it's not could you please move it?

If you take a look back at Kuzzter's post at the top of page 121 you should see Wernher say he didn't know if Kerbal would be better or worse than Kerbulus so he decided to land in a remote uninhabited area first

Aah, sorry for the confusion guys. To clarify, my games computer broke a few weeks back and I'm currently saving up for a replacement. While I'm waiting I'm trying to keep up to date with things on the forum, in doing so several threads discussing using both small size parts and low part number craft caught my interest and I thought I'd make a list for when I [I]do[/I] [I]have [/I]a computer that can run KSP again. I have no plans to even [I]try [/I]to run KSP on my current machine. Again sorry for the confusion.

Hi guys I don't have a computer capable of running KSP at the moment, but there have been several threads the last few days that have had me thinking about smaller ships and I've been trying to find mods with these types of parts while I shop around for a new machine. I know RoverDude has a mod and necrobones has a few 0.625m tanks and engines but I was wondering if anybody here could suggest any others?

Mk3 Expansion - [KSP 1.12x] Version 1.6 [10/5/21]
Star-Eagle replied to SuicidalInsanity's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Just had a part idea, what about a mk2-1.25/mk1 utility/service bay? Maybe a mk3-mk2 version as well? I don't know how useful these might be but I thought I should share them.- 863 replies

AHHH!!! I just ran out of tinfoil!! I swear kuzzter must have shares or stock in tinfoil companies:). Seriously though, I have been following D:OB and E:OZ from the start and have enjoyed every page. I hope you continue these comics, though I think we have little to worry about on that score.

Mk3 Expansion - [KSP 1.12x] Version 1.6 [10/5/21]
Star-Eagle replied to SuicidalInsanity's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
@suicidalinsantiy I hope I didn't pressure you into using my idea. It just seemed to be a good way to get the effect of an inline cockpit without the internal space issue, though if your fuselage extensions do the job just as well then one extra part might not be so bad. I really feel bad when I mention a new idea here given the scale of your mods so I've been trying to resist the urge to post them though a few like the one we've been discussing slip through if they seem to really something to your mod. With that in mind could I possibly make another suggestion? I've been looking through some of the other SXT photos and I noticed the ke-111 cockpit, if you don't know the part I'm referring to its basically a glass nose/cockpit such as you might find on a B-17, B-29 or there German counter parts I thought something like this would fit in well with the alternative uses for the mk3 parts (such as the deep space ship you posted a few pages back) though as it's for the 1.25/mk1 scale (I think) you'd have to make something a bit bigger. I would recommend making it in either in 2.5m or 3.75m (leaning more to 3.75m) size so it could fit on the rocket parts as well as the mk3 parts with the use of an adapter. I know your cyclops cockpit does covers some of this but it doesn't seem to have as much lateral visibility as you would get from this type of cockpit, I will admit that I haven't used the ke-111 cockpit itself but I have used your mk2 "rover" cockpit quite a bit and have thoroughly enjoyed the the wider field of view it offers.- 863 replies

Mk3 Expansion - [KSP 1.12x] Version 1.6 [10/5/21]
Star-Eagle replied to SuicidalInsanity's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
@suicidalinsantiy Its been a while since I used SXT so I hope you could help me out here, which part of my suggestion where you referring to in your reply? The inline cockpit with enlarged bulge or the radial attached parts? Also do they work on the stock mk3 parts or something specific to the mod?- 863 replies

Mk3 Expansion - [KSP 1.12x] Version 1.6 [10/5/21]
Star-Eagle replied to SuicidalInsanity's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
suicidalinsantiy With regard to a mk3 in-line cockpit could I make two suggestions? 1) Enlarge the bulge on top of the fuselage to something resembling a Boeing 747? 2) Instead of an actual inline cockpit how about a radially attached one? Something like your mk3 wing chines but modified to fit the curved top of the mk3 hull piece. These could solve the unused/unusable space issue, expand the use of existing parts and allow builders more freedom and choice in where they place the cockpit.- 863 replies

Mk3 Expansion - [KSP 1.12x] Version 1.6 [10/5/21]
Star-Eagle replied to SuicidalInsanity's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Yes that is exactly what I had in mind thought it seems we both misspoke, with the second option what I was thinking would not have the ladder mounted to the movable part. If you were to think of a cargo bay rotated so that the doors opened sideways you would have a better idea of what I'm trying to describe. The outer doors would act like the outer section of an airlock with an inner hatch behind them, the small cargo bay like area in between should allow enough space to attach a ladder to to the fixed floor. I hope that clears things up, I know I wasn't being very clear.- 863 replies

Mk3 Expansion - [KSP 1.12x] Version 1.6 [10/5/21]
Star-Eagle replied to SuicidalInsanity's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
@ObsessedWithKSP Just to clarify was either to have the stairs as on a small business jet or to have a recessed area in the aircraft shielded by a opening hatch of some kind to mount a ladder to, kind of like a sideways cargo bay.- 863 replies
