You have to change the pitch of the prop. If your prop is set at a low angle, it will give high thrust at lower speeds. If it is set at a higher angle, it will give thrust at higher speed. So if your engine does well up to 30 m/s, increase the pitch on your prop. It will go faster.

Well, if you've seen my car you should know that gears do work. But I don't think they work very well or even at all at the high speeds required to lift a helicopter. Also, keep in mind that the theoretical speed limit for props is around 50 RAD/s So I don't know how you'll achieve 4800 KN under the current limitations of KSP physics. Back to gears though, I think the problem arises in the collisions between the gear teeth. as they hit each other pretty hard even at low speeds. I used the structural panels because they have one of the highest crash tolerances. Wing segments and other similar parts with low crash tolerances don't work at all as gears. I am not a fan of panthers in turboprop engines. They are to big. Keep in mind that Azimech and I are trying to promote setting the drag multiplier to 0 to keep the physics as close to what they were in 0.90. You'll have far more success and a good time if you set the drag multiplier to 0. You can also turn up your RPM limiter so your engines can spin faster.

You should make more of these. I love them! -
Oh whoops, I know my months. Don't worry XD

@Azimech You should update the challenge description, it still says that the challenge ended in the 6th. I'm working on my plane some more, my new design has promise!

Seems like it worked really well XD

Alright, I posted the Gremlin MK2 in your challenge topic. After closer examination it appears that only @Azimech, @sdj64, @borbalfand myself are the only people, to my knowledge, who have achieved at least 100m/s @borbalfIf your bearing fails predictably, I.E. between a certain range of speed, your probably over speeding it. So you have to increase prop pitch to keep it from spinning to fast. Oh noooooooo

Alright, heres the Gremlin MK2 doing 224m/s. Fastest stock turboprop in the game to date! Download and more info from here. I beat Azimechs record 3 times in a row! https://kerbalx.com/Gman_builder/Gremlin-MK2 @sdj64I love your turboprop designs! They not only look good but actually work too!

Actually I heard it from a member of the plane's ground crew when I went to Reno to watch the 2014 Reno Unlimited Class Gold Race. He gived me da sekhrit dukumentz man. Redlining the engine yields a little bit more speed, but there is a high risk of it failing. Explosively. I've reached 224m/s. http://imgur.com/a/O8yC1 added more pics to the album. More to come

I'd like to hear them, because whenever the engine on my plane gets above 43 RAD/s it explodes. I keep it around 41.5 - 42.5 whenever I do speed runs in the plane. Also, the Reno racer called Rare Bear, which holds the world speed record for fastest level flight in a prop plane, makes about 8000 RPM in it's prop. The engine and prop technology behind it is top secret so all I can tell you is that it is powered by a heavily modified Wright R-3350 and it has a modified version of the prop off a DC-7. That plane "only" makes 528 mph, 36 mph higher than my plane does.

Alright, but I have a question... I was doing some experimenting with the Chakora engine and it seems that whenever it reaches 100 m/s it explodes, every time. Without fail. I don't know why but I think it has something to do with the acceleration of the aircraft. If you could help me out id appreciate it UPDATE: Solved that problem. top speed of my plane is 220 m/s I BEAT YOUR SPEED RECORD BOI WOOOOO the plane is more of a top fuel dragster and cant be maneuvered at those speed without the engine disintegrating. Lower speeds of around 100 - 160 m/s yield much better maneuverablility. The plane is a Chakora engine with a custom airframe made of sekhrit dokumentz. http://imgur.com/lkAE7th
