Fastest aircraft possible
Gman_builder replied to Gman_builder's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
what? dude if you don't wanna do the challenge then don't do it. This one is different in the sense that you cannot use rocket engines. -
Can you send me a link to the thread? I'd love to see it!

I've been making these for a while too! Dude you are just in every topic omg

The Saga of Emiko Station - Complete
Gman_builder replied to Just Jim's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
@GeschosskopfI've installed and uninstalled the Renaissance Compilation multiple times on multiple different PCs with no problem. I don't know where your getting that info about never being able to go back but it seems fine to me. Honestly theres no reason to ever go back anyway unless you want buttery smooth gameplay. But that skind of the sacrifice, a little bit choppier gameplay for scenery that looks 100 times better. -
Aurora Black Project Aircraft

Oh so THATS how the albums work. Thanks for the complement! I wish Kerbpaint worked so I could paint this thing jet black. -

Well, the X-15 was designed to fly at near orbital altitudes and only had the fuel for one short flight, It did not have to be sustained. Highly swept wings reduce the dynamic shock of air at near hypersonic speed for sustained low altitude flight. Plus the stealth factor. The X-15 was also rocket powered so had a much higher TWR than your standard aircraft so the wings were more to hold control surfaces and provide just enough lift to glide back to earth once the fuel was exhausted. My engine-wing-fuselage configuration I have is also extremely stable at high speed and low altitude. I agree with the door stop thing but this wing does in fact produce less drag than other designs. The only parts on the plane that DO produce drag are the radiators I have hidden in the nose to reduce shock heating. -
The Aurora was a rumored American spy plane operating in the 80's. However there is overwhelming evidence that a high speed program exists today under the same designation, "Aurora." My version is based on the common depiction of the aircraft. She makes Mach 4.7 at 21k meters using a hybrid R.A.P.I.E.R. - Whiplash propulsion system for high efficiency and power at all altitudes. The Rapiers never switch to rocket mode JSYK. It has 10 thousand units of liquid fuel but only 15 minutes of endurance at those high speeds and relatively low altitudes. However in that time the Aurora can fly exactly half way around Kerbin. MAX OPERATING SPECS Service ceiling: 26,000 meters. Max safe operating speed: Mach 5.815 or 1,738 m/s. Endurance: 15+ minutes at Mach 5.8 and 21k meters Minimum Rotate Speed: 95 m/s Stall speed: 80m/s Turn time: 29 seconds for 180 degree turn RECOMMENDED SPECS Recommended Cruising Alt: 23,000 meters Recommended Cruising speed: 1,200 m/s Recommended Throttle Setting at Cruising Alt: 95% throttle Recommended Rotate Speed: 120 m/s Recommended landing Speed: 120m/s Recommended Use: High altitude hypersonic research/spy plane and speed record attempts. This model comes equipt with a full science package in the nose and a optional laser guidance scope thing from BDA for looking at objects on the ground from high altitudes. I will put the download on here at a later date. I still have to do more testing. Stay tuned!

The challenge is simple: Go fast I am challenging all of you to make the fastest possible aircraft you can in the game. However. There are rules. RULES: 1. Your aircraft must only use stock parts 2. You can use FAR or stock aero. Whichever you prefer. 3. Your aircraft must use only air breathing engines. Rapiers are allowed as long as you don't use rocket mode. 4. No cheats allowed. At all. 5. It is required to fly for at least 15 minutes before running out of fuel. 6. You must record your speed run as a LEVEL flight. I.E. No diving to gain speed or dropping out of orbit. 7. You cannot use reaction control systems such as RCS or reaction wheels besides the ones in your cockpit. 8. It must fly level with lift provided by wings. So no long wingless fuselages with a engine on the end. You may test your aircraft with ignore max temp to show us what it can really do but that speed will not be counted in your entry. Only the speed without cheats. The top three fastest planes will win. WINNERS 1. @Cunjo Carl 1,750 m/s 2. Me: 1,736 m/s 3. @Van Disaster1,536 m/s May the fastest plane win.... I will start with my own entry to my own challenge. I present, the "Aurora." She is capable of Mach 5.815 at 20,600 meters. My fastest aircraft yet.

http://imgur.com/a/Lr8Fi I know this challenge is technically over but I just thought I would toss my plane in here for you all to see it. My entry is the "Aurora." She makes Mach 4.7 in stock aero, and Mach 5.1 with ignore max temp. I spent 3 days designing this exact model and there have been many iterations before it leading up to my masterpiece. The Aurora performs just as well if not better in FAR because of it's extremely swept wings and R.A.P.I.E.R. - Whiplash combo. The rapiers are only used for their high altitude performance, they are not in rocket mode. It uses 20 engines in total, because the craft weighs 111 tons on takeoff. Despite it's massive weight, it can fly halfway around kerbin in only 14 minutes. That is exactly how much fuel it has. Over a third of the fuel is used just on takeoff and climb so if I could somehow throw together air-to-air refueling at altitude my range would be increased by 33%. I categorize it as both experimental and functional.

Official FAR Craft Repository
Gman_builder replied to tetryds's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
My attempt at a highly swept wing hypersonic aircraft wasn't as fast as I had originally anticipated. http://imgur.com/a/W1RrD However this underperforming test bed led to the development of my highly advanced unmanned "Aurora" aircraft http://imgur.com/a/Lr8Fi She is capable of Mach 4.7 at 24,000 meters and is extremely stable in FAR as well as stock aero. It is a high altitude, (almost) hypersonic research and spy plane that comes equipped with a full science package and laser targeting thing from BDA so you can see the ground below you in great detail. I don't want to give away to much information as to the nature of my top secret aircraft but you can have a few screenshots. I wish kerbpaint was updated so I could paint this thing jet black. -

What do you not like about KSPRC? Its amazing! -
The Saga of Emiko Station - Complete
Gman_builder replied to Just Jim's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
@Just JimLike I was saying. KSPRC adds clouds to most bodies in OPM that deserve them, like Tekto. What specs does your computer have? -
Well, if you really want to know. Apparently craft on the Launchpad of the KSC 2 also register as on the Launchpad of the KSC1!!! So you would either have to move or recover your craft from KSC 2 if you want to launch from KSC 1. Which makes no sense at all. But I reported the bug so its all good. Oh thanks, didn't realize I had it in the wrong area.

I had a rocket sitting on the Launchpad of the KSC 2 just so it could look cool. I also planned to drive a rover all the way over there. I went to launch a Duna mission and it told me to recover a vessel on the launch pad and I was confused as I had nothing on the Launchpad. But I recovered it anyway and it turned out to be THE ROCKET ON THE RUNWAY 2 THOUSAND KILOMTERS AWAY. what. That's really weird and un-necessary. Please fix Squad.
